Wasp Wisdom

I sent this email to a client yesterday, but it occurred to me that the message could apply for a lot of people, so I’m sharing it here. The email subject line was “also, forgot to tell you this,” and it followed a session in which I learned she had been bitten by an ant while trying to connect with Nature for her healing:

Remember the time before last time, you mentioned wasps having no good purpose, and I was like, “Wasps are awesome! They have female warrior energy, they eat bad bugs, they provide protection for your garden, etc.?” Well, I had the day prior mentioned on my blog, “Wasps welcome,” and immediately after hanging up the phone with you, I happened to glance out at our garage, where some wasps were busy building a nest, right by our garage door. I thought, hmmm, this is not a very good location for a big wasp nest, but I felt like I couldn’t kick them out given the recent invitation and synchronicity of our conversation.

Soooo, I thanked them for hearing the invitation, but then opened and closed the garage door a few times, sending them the message, “Just so you know, this is what this location will involve. If you’re ok with the noise and disruption, you’re welcome to stay, but we will, occasionally need to get in and out of here, especially later in the gardening season when I need my wheelbarrow on a daily basis.” They stayed for awhile, and you could see them conversing.

The next day, they had abandoned the partially made hive. I haven’t found the location anywhere else, but it is likely somewhere close. Anyway, I share that as an illustration that we can attract what we want and then tweak that attraction once it begins to form in reality. It doesn’t need to be a huge rejection or a huge drama. It can just be an “Are you sure? … because here are the implications of this manifestation in this particular way…”

Wasp wisdom is very cool stuff:

Wasp/Hornet/Yellowjacket’s Wisdom Includes:

Use of female warrior energy
Sisterhood
Understanding female societies
Communal living

From http://animalspirits.com, which, FYI, is a great site for interpreting unusual animal sightings or dreams. Ant wisdom is on the same page:

Ant’s Wisdom Includes:

Patience
Stamina
Planning
Energy and patience needed to complete work
Communal living
Storing for the future

(Note the patience!) πŸ˜‰

Anyway, thought you’d find those interesting …
Blessings and healing on ALL levels,
Laura

I’ve been waiting to move for 6 months now. For the last 3-4 months I’ve been quite ‘antsy’. Pun intended, because guess who showed up in my kitchen and mainly, in the dishwasher? ANTS! Patience indeed…. I had visions of ants back around 1999. Curious how things come into view so many years later.

That’s really interesting, Laura. I didn’t perceive wasps in this manner, thanks for the post, its changed my thinking. Ironically, last week I spent a good 10 minutes trying to ‘will’ a wasp out of my garage, because I didn’t want it to make a nest in the house. Eventually, I left it alone and when I returned, about a half an hour later it was gone. It hasn’t returned. I appreciate the synchronicity of your post.

So, taking this to a different level– what does it mean then if one is allergic to wasps?

BTW, I enjoy reading your posts everyday and your garden is turning out to be just lovely!

    • Thanks so much, Kelly! As to your question about a wasp allergy, offhand, I would say look to your inner attitudes about female power or the warrior self. Sometimes wasps appear when that part of our Shadow wants attention. I know that has been the case for me. I had a large wasp nest right outside my 9th floor window in Chicago in 2010. I had filed for divorce, but there were a LOT of loose ends I really didn’t feel like fighting over. Whenever I got particularly wimpy about standing up for myself, the wasps would literally fly into my apartment and prevent me from leaving until I made the necessary phone calls. They would blockade my front door!

In Madison, we had a very nosy neighbor who was well meaning, but would mow everyone’s lawn w/o asking and kind of snoop around. He mowed down some elderberry shrubs of mine and I didn’t like him just barging in unannounced to take out our trash and recycling. He meant well, but it always felt like this awkward invasion of privacy. Lo and behold, a wasp nest moved in right near my garden. I had asked him not to take out our trash, etc. due to him possibly damaging the garden, but he did anyway. The wasps stung him so bad that he refused to set foot on our property again. LOL! It worked, and we maintained a friendly relationship on the sidewalk or out in the street, but not in my space. I love wasps!

I love wasps too! I used to live in an old farm house and my bedroom had an old stone fireplace and chimney- the were tons of wasps living in it and came out of the stones, especially in the winter. I never minded, and they never bothered me or stung me. I have always been able to pick up wasps and they never sting me! I am always surprised when people are afraid of them.

Thanks for the reply about wasp allergies, Laura. Its funny how perception works! I’ll take your advice and look deeper into my feminine/ warrior issues, which are themes that I have been actively sorting out lately! — More synchronicity; How Fun!!! (Ironically, my name is Kelly; which means “warrior”- lol!)

Thank you for sharing your experiences with wasps. That was very interesting, helpful, and much appreciated. πŸ™‚
