Alternative Views and Considerations about CERN

This post has been rolling around in my head for several weeks now, and I by no means make definitive claims to know exactly what’s going on in the wider world. In my own world and that of friends and clients, I see strong evidence of fresh openings, growth, and a reaching beyond previous limitations. I see more local people planting fruit trees, beginning or expanding their gardens, and starting or renovating art studios, theaters and creative and/or healing communities. I hear from clients — past and present — letting me know of huge shifts and major healing in their lives, and I find that despite the threats of whatever could be coming down the pipeline, somehow people keep winding up on their feet, like cats with their proverbial nine lives. All day, every day, I feel those energetic signatures, with the strongest frequency being Earth Herself — Gaia, Sophia, Terra, Mother, whatever you call Her, She is rising!

Within this context, I have a different, potentially more optimistic interpretation of CERN than many in the spiritual or “truther” communities do. Normally, I would be among the first to freak out about the large hadron collider (LHC), but for some reason, I’m just not. If you want to read freak outs, you can find them all over the place, but I’ll summarize the claims here, along with my own comments on those claims:

1) The scientists at CERN are playing God, and not just any god. CERN has a statue of Shiva in the Nataraja form, enacting “the dance of destruction.” CERN scientists are trying to blow up the Earth by recreating the Big Bang.

cern_shiva

While I do feel concerned about the motivations and responsibility of some of the LHC scientists, the level of fear, hysteria and misinformation about the role of the Hindu diety Shiva is off the charts. Any time a fundamentalist religious sect claims to describe another religion’s faith as “demonic,” we would do well to pause and investigate for ourselves. I happen to know some people who practice Hinduism, tantra, and/or bhakti yoga, and they are lovely, loving, generous people — among the kindest, most conscious, creative and sincere people I know. I forwarded them some of the most hysterical videos and articles about the Shiva-CERN connection and respectfully asked for their take on things.

One guru’s guru used to be a nuclear physicist before leaving the field when India wanted him to focus on building bombs, so I particularly enjoyed email discussions with and references provided by this friend. What I discovered through these discussions confirmed my own experiences with kirtan (i.e. sacred chants sung along with Krishna Das, Deva Premal, Jai Uttal and many others), and that was that Shiva is predominantly associated with healing, not destruction. Even when the destroyer aspect arrives, it comes to dance away the worn out reality in preparation for the birth of a healed, new universe. People deeply involved in this tradition are so accustomed to viewing Shiva as the great healing aspect of Brahma that they often forget that “Westerners only recognize Shiva the Destroyer.”

From one friend: “What I find most interesting here is that the stated purpose of the LHC is to recreate the conditions of 1 second after the Big Bang. Chanting the Rudram, which is the greatest stotram to Siva creates the heat and energy of 1/4 second after the Big Bang. I have also read that if you substitute the deity names in the Rudram for modern scientific names for these energies that the Rudram reads easily like a modern physics text book. There is definitely some correlation between this project, the Rudram and Siva. In it’s highest interpretation the Rudram is saying that we are all god and the god is in everything, in nature, in matter and that god is also in the thief – all sides of the coin.”

If interested, you can watch this video, which sings the mantra (plus an introductory one) at length with English translations of the associations and invocations. You can see the emphasis on healing, prosperity, good condition, and protection:

Another youtube chanted version explains the mantra thus:

“The Life Giving Mantra
“Om Trayambakam Yajaamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhnam Urvvarukamiva Bandhanaan Mrityormuksheeya Maamrataat Om”
II Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra II महा मृत्युंजय मंत्र

II Introduction to Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra II

The great mantra dedicated to Shiva as Mrityunjaya is found in the Rig Veda, as well as in the Yajur Veda. It is called the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra, the Great Death-Conquering mantra. It is a mantra that has many names and forms. It is called the Rudra mantra, referring to the furious aspect of Shiva; the Tryambakam mantra, alluding to Shiva’s three eyes; and its is also known as the Mrita-Sanjivini mantra because it is a component of the “life-restoring” practice given to the primordial sage Shukra after he had completed an exhausting period of austerity. The Maha Mrityunjaya mantra is hailed by the sages as the heart of the Veda. Along with the Gayatri mantra it holds the highest place among the many mantras used for contemplation and meditation.

“TO GET RID OF ALL HEALTH PROBLEMS AND FEAR OF DEATH”

http://omshivam.wordpress.com/the-mah…

One of the most balanced articles I’ve located about the LHC and Shiva (also spelled Siva) expresses concern, but it looks much more at the complexities of the Shiva Nataraj, so it’s not just a knee-jerk “Shiva’s evil” position. It recognizes potential irony, real concerns about the unpredictability of the experiments, but also a hope that the protection inherent in the mantra associated with this statue has mitigating effects on the experiments. You can find that article here. As the author notes at the end of the piece, “What was not said in this article is that there are many of us who firmly believe that this device has other purposes far different than those stated by CERN and the scientific establishment. We will take up some of these notions in future discussions, as revelations are made by those in the know.

Personally, I find a reasoned, informed, investigative approach much more valuable than over the top doom, gloom, projection and absolutely “in the know” conjectures floating around the blogosphere. You can find all sorts of reports on CERN, Jade Helm, super volcanoes, Planet X, forest fires near Chernobyl, Fukushima death plumes and more, all of which lead me to ask: “Aren’t we, in fact, experiencing the worn out reality? Aren’t we already living in the Dance of Destruction? Would a healing rebirth necessarily be any worse?”

2) The scientists at CERN are opening wormholes, new realities and portals to bring in demons.

Again, define “demon.” Some people view the Judeo-Christian-Muslim God as a demented demon/alien responsible for all the religious bloodshed of the past 2000+ years. Does their belief make that true anymore than the fundamentalist Christian assertion that anyone “not saved by Jesus Christ” will go to everlasting hell?

Most modern religions of any sect or denomination not only suppress but completely demonize anything at all related to the Goddess or Divine Feminine. One could argue that the (patriarchal) “spiritual” disregard, disrespect and even hatred for the material realm, Nature, natural healing, women and the body has resulted in humanity driving Earth to the very brink of destruction — to a condition that no longer supports life. Depending on its type, a “wormhole” or “new reality” could provide an antidote to the anti-life parasites that have run this planet for millennia.

Would a return to reverence for all of Nature — a return to recognizing our planet as a Divine Goddess with Her own full consciousness — “bring in demons”? John Calvin certainly thought so. That’s why he executed women and anyone associate with Nature, healing herbs, mysticism and the body. That’s how he managed to create the most oppressive police state the Western world has (yet) known. Please see my earlier post “Subtle and Overt Attacks on the Goddess, Nature and the Sacred Feminine” for more details on this dynamic.

A “demon” is anything so firmly rejected that it grows in the Shadows, preparing to (forcibly) reclaim its rightful place. As they say, “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” What happens if that “woman” is Mother Nature or the Divine Feminine? Kali, the Hindu goddess most often associated by Westerners with destruction, is, like Shiva, only one facet of a largely healing, motherly Presence. Might we align with this “destruction” in the same ways that we can embrace inevitable changes in our own and societal lives as a healing cleanse instead of creating excess pain and suffering through clinging to the old and resistance to necessary change?

I paint portals coded with Runes and sacred symbols, using my own intention and creativity to initiate preferred realities and events that would not normally occur through the current trajectory. While I fully recognize the potential for scientists to experiment willy nilly with forces far beyond their control or understanding, I also hold within me the possibility that some of these scientists may have similar desires to shift established negative trajectories. Perhaps they know more about say, a rogue planet in our solar system, astrological and ancient historical records hidden away at the Vatican, and/or NASA’s real space footage, rather than the redacted images the public receives. Maybe, just maybe, there’s far more going on than the public knows or even senses. Yes, this could mean pacts with demented aliens trying to take over the Earth (or have they already?!), but it could also involve attempts to shift Earth’s magnetic field in order to mitigate effects from a massive periodic object responsible for earlier  and coming cataclysms spoken of by indigenous people everywhere, including the Hopi.

Maybe, just maybe, there is a benevolent purpose behind the secrecy and desperate experimentation. I don’t know. I don’t claim to know, but in a world of all possibilities, I recognize more than the knee jerk conclusion of pure evil, arrogance and idiocy at CERN.

3) Scientists at CERN are playing with consciousness in order to create “hive mind” and the New World Order.

Fundamentalist Christians reject what I call “the New Age Borg” just as much as I do. I can’t argue with them that the prospect of erasing all individuality in favor of mass brainwashing seems sinister. We’ve heard for decades about Project Blue Beam and the Fake Alien Invasion, along with plans to beam thoughts and visions to people so that they “experience” a carefully scripted “mystical” encounter shared by everyone around them. Such mass group hypnosis would then be used for spiritual tyranny to complete the New World Order with its transhumanist, totally enslaving agenda.

We’ve already seen the effects of this process in so many co-opted channelers placating otherwise good people into a SOMA like state of passivity and cognitive dissonance in the face of “higher light being Obama” droning children, pushing through the oppressive TPP, and appointing Monsanto lackeys in all places of power whilst touting his wife’s “organic garden.” Oh, but he’s from a higher dimension, right? And ET’s will save us from ourselves as we “ascend” in to Nirvana in spaceships while the dirty physical realm burns and suffocates around us.  Luv’n’lite.

In this case, I agree with the fundies: yuck!

I also sense something else happening, though, as mentioned at the beginning of this article. Gaia-Sophia-Terra-Mama Earth is rising. Her own frequency continues to increase, and She knows how to self correct. I wonder what would happen if CERN triggered “hive mind” but Earth co-opted any negative agenda, thereby reconnecting humanity’s telluric chakra — the one that connects humans deeply and intimately to our planetary consciousness? What if “hive mind” meant a primary connection to all of life, including each other, through our shared connection to the Divine Consciousness within our planet? Can you imagine how differently people would behave if every decision ran through an Earth filter? If every decision supported Nature? If all the wifi, EMF pollution and TV brainwashing got preempted by Earth Herself?

I also wonder what would happen if the scientists really did manage to tear a hole in the fabric of the Universe, thereby opening — even for brief milliseconds — portals to other realities. Would such a moment trigger what John Lamb Lash calls “The Sophianic Correction,” in which Earth throws off anything not in alignment with a healed humanity and harmonious co-existence with all of Nature?  She needs some sort of trigger. Could a CERN function (or malfunction) initiate that trigger? Some alternative writers have spoken of “Divine Intervention” as coming from “off world,” but I’ve not heard anyone writing about CERN discuss the possibility of an “in world” “Divine Assertion” — of the Earth auto-correcting Herself.

Predictably, I have read and heard all sorts of shrieks about “dark matter,” but without any of the awareness of how both “dark” and “matter” exist traditionally in the realm of the Goddess. “Matter” comes from the same root as “mater,” meaning “Mother.” I’ve written on these topics many, many times, but I will remind readers here that nearly every modern religion and every modern social institution and “moral” convention subtly or overtly co-opts, rejects and/or demonizes anything to do with the Divine Feminine. When exploring “scary” topics, we would do well to reclaim our own and the collective Shadow.

The psychopaths who would remain in control of this reality have suppressed and/or perverted Ancient Wisdom and Goddess lore in order to ensure that the many never discover their true origins, power and potential. For millennia, wars, propaganda and vast fortunes have destroyed historical monuments, documents and traditions in order to hide and exclude such things from the masses. Why? Do you really believe those in power hid all of these things for your own protection and liberation? If so, then why do psychopaths remain in charge? Why have they raped, beaten and destroyed our planet, women, animals, “primitive” societies and attacked the metaphorical and real “seeds” of Life itself?

When expressing our conCERNs about CERN, let’s remember to explore our own “dark matter.” Let’s retrain ourselves to love the material realm so that it can express the spiritual. As my friend said, “What I find most interesting here is that the stated purpose of the LHC is to recreate the conditions of 1 second after the Big Bang. In it’s highest interpretation the Rudram is saying that we are all god and the god is in everything, in nature, in matter and that god is also in the thief – all sides of the coin.” This same friend also shared, “My Guru … says we are a speck of a speck in the milkway just as a sperm is a speck in the flow of semen. That the void of space is Devi’s yoni and that the Big Bang was the release of Siva’s viryam (can be translated as strength) into Devi’s Yoni.”

Those interested in learning more about the Rudyam can listen to a series of lectures here. They begin with chanting, but then explore philosophy, humility, healing and creation. Whether you choose to listen to the talks or not, I will simply underscore the beauty and life force of this tradition and take at least some encouragement from the presence of the Nataraj statue outside of CERN. Someone has studied these sacred texts and mantras, so that imprint at least exists as a potential in the LHC experiments.

Before running in terror from destruction, let’s honestly assess what things in our own lives need to go in order to make room for the new. As Joseph Campbell said, “We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” Even in the worst case scenario of CERN — for conscious beings and a conscious planet — that moment of chaos could open massive potential for rebirth into a different, preferred reality. Yes, we want to protect our planet, but in order to do so, let’s reclaim our Shadows, reclaim our own Dance of Destruction, and realign with the Divine Consciousness of our planet, so that if and when chaos comes, we remember to dance our own ecstatic, healing steps into the New.

Last Few Days for April Specials, Plus Class Reminders

APRIL 2015 SPECIALS

45-Minute Medical Intuitive Readings for $133

I usually only offer hour or half-hour sessions, because they make for much simpler scheduling on my end; however, sometimes people have more than a half-hour’s worth of topics to discuss yet not quite an hour. This special is for anyone who would like more support and insights than we can cover in a half-hour but who doesn’t want to commit to an entire hour. (Save $42.) Offer valid if prepaid on or before April 30, 2015. Please contact me to sign up.

$77 Rune Readings

I sometimes write about working with Runes for protection or as creative building blocks of reality. For years, I have painted Runes into portal doors, used them for meditation, placed them on intention altars, and as shorthand for projecting certain qualities of energy across “time” and space. Occasionally, Runes come up during sessions as an easy way for someone to introduce a new vibration into their energy field, as a recommended symbol to include in a tattoo they’ve considered, or as a way to cultivate whatever subconscious associations a particular Rune evokes. Most people use Runes simply for divination, although I find that’s one of the more limited ways of embracing Runic energy. This half-hour reading offers whatever you’d like to learn from or about the Runes. It may be part Runic divination, part instruction, or perhaps a trigger for your own creativity. I decided to offer the session, because I get a lot of questions about “the best Rune to use for ____.”

Runic study takes many years, and several different systems of Runes exist, but you can use this reading as a Touchstone to find resource recommendations tailored to you and your needs and interests. You can also just see what comes up, treating it like a Tarot reading, which then spurs further discussion and intuitive insights. $77 if prepaid on or before April 30, 2015. Please contact me to sign up.

Reiki Level 1 Certification Class in Allentown, Pennsylvania
Saturday, July 18, 2015
10 a.m.-5 p.m. Hosted by my sweet, artistic and very groovy sister in Allentown, PA (address given after sign-up)

Reiki is an ancient healing method rediscovered in the 19th century by the Japanese monk Dr. Mikao Usui. The “Rei” in Reiki stands for “universal” or” spiritual,” and the “ki” corresponds to the “life force energy” known as “Chi” or “prana” in other Eastern systems of healing and energy work or yoga. It offers an easy, non-draining way to provide hands-on or distant healing through energy exchange and profound relaxation, allowing the recipient’s body, mind, soul and spirit to access their own deepest healing. Reiki can be practiced professionally, or as an adjunct to one’s own spiritual path and holistic lifestyle. I teach the Usui Method of Reiki, which is the most traditional style from which all other types derive.

Students will learn and/or receive:

• History, nature, and science of Reiki.
• Experiencing Reiki energy.
• Using Reiki with other healing arts.
• Discussion of 21-day cleanse.
• Treating animals and plants.
• Essence scanning process.
• Establishing a Reiki practice.
• Practice self-treatment hand positions.
• Handouts and resource list.
• Reiki Circles.
• What a Reiki lineage represents.
• Giving a Reiki treatment with hand positions.
• Ethics and Legal Responsibilities as a Reiki Practitioner.
• Reiki Level 1 Attunement.

Certification: At the end of the training, each student will receive a certificate acknowledging completion of Reiki Level 1, as well as recognition as a Reiki Level 1 Practitioner. Taking any Reiki training with Laura Bruno also qualifies each student to audit (at no cost) any additional Reiki classes taught by her, up to and including the level completed with her (space permitting).

Fee: Regular rate for Reiki 1 Certification is $175. If prepaid in full two weeks in advance, cost is $150.

Pre-registration and a $25 non-refundable deposit are required to reserve your spot.  We’ve got nice groups in both locations so far, but as of 4/27, we do still have room for others to join us.

Sacred Sexual Alchemy ~ The Root of Creative Magick

Thank you, Tania. This has been on my mind and heart, as well, not only from the music industry, but also from so-called spiritual people advising complete shut-off of all lower chakras and a rejection of natural sensuality, sexuality, embodied pleasure and even matter itself as being completely dirty, wrong and evil. Something beautiful and powerful has been suppressed and abused for so long that people have — by design — forgotten the original alchemical dance between spirit and matter. This is a much bigger topic and on many levels, but thank you for sharing your and Charlotte Szivak’s thoughts and feelings as part of a much needed collective reclamation process.

Tania Marie

I’ve been wanting to share about this topic for a while, but hadn’t the time to put together my thoughts. I was prompted again the other day, to bring it to light, as I heard some rap songs playing somewhere that I was, which made me shake my head at how degrading they were about women, the female body, and sex in general. I was sad and also upset thinking about how people go around singing along with these songs on a daily basis, creating chants and affirmations that are completely conditioning them into more unconscious and blind acts and feelings that are harmful to themselves, others, and the collective at large – this being just ONE way this continues to take place.

It hit a deep chord, to say the least, that stirred my lower Chakras into unrest over the ways we are continually bombarding ourselves with conditioning that…

Vandana Shiva: “Organic farming increases carbon absorption of soil by 55%”

When we explore the oldest traditions all around the world, we see the foundations of sacred soil, sacred earth, and our own place in the Cycle of Life. Even science has begun to agree with the Upanishads: we live in an interconnected web. Whether East Indian or American Indian, what Chief Seattle said holds true:

“Every part of the earth is sacred to my people. Every shining pine needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every meadow, every humming insect. All are holy in the memory and experience of my people.

“This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself. “

Converting Lawns to Gardens: Nature’s Harvest Permaculture Urban Farm

In case it’s not obvious: I completely agree with everything shared in this post. Transform our lawns, transform ourselves, transform our communities. I experience this daily, as I’m out front, meeting neighbors walking their dogs, talking with the next door neighbors as I plant, mulch or weed, having micro-visits with David’s dad as he stops by on his errand runs.

Front yard gardens definitely start conversations, and yes, they are contagious. I know more and more people planting fruit trees and tearing up their lawns. OK, so maybe I called a bunch of people when I saw non-GMO fruit trees on sale at Tractor Supply Co. Maybe I emailed our Transition Goshen team. In any case, a little bit of encouragement and some bold plantings do change everything, season by season.

This post gives excellent advice about getting started on transforming your own yard from a resource sink to a productive source of joy and beauty. Happy planting!

The Druid's Garden

Design of Nature's Harvest Permaculture Farm Design of Nature’s Harvest Permaculture Farm – Beautiful, biointensive, productive.

Over the years, I’ve done quite a bit of coverage about lawn issues, as I really do believe that the lawn can be one of the primary sites of transformation and change for ordinary Americans and others in the Western industrialized world. Not only can the lawn be transformed from a consumptive space to a productive one for growing vegetables, herbs, and flowers to benefit humans and other life, but it can be a site of personal reconnection and healing with our landscape.

This is because the lawn is the single piece of nature that the bulk of people, living outside of big cities, encounter on a daily or weekly basis. If we can transform the lawn, we can transform ourselves.

This is why I am so excited about this post–through the example of Nature’s Harvest Urban Permaculture Farm…

Even Kafka couldn’t make up this stuff, but We can end it.

I have been following this story for awhile, and as ridiculous and beyond Kafka-esque as it appears, this is actually happening in nearby Michigan. Any precedents set by this case will be used for all sorts of nefarious purposes, so please, send your Reiki, work your magic, revoke your consent to this con, use your phones and email … whatever you can, please do. Honestly, if this happened in any other country, the US would already be bombing, er, “liberating” them. Time to liberate ourselves and each other with more effective and life honoring methods. Via RMN:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Commerce Twp., Michigan, April 22, 2015

A Michigan woman is calling on Governor Rick Snyder to intervene and protect her from being put in a federal prison after what she calls a crudely engineered criminal conviction for her refusal to comply with unlawful orders of a federal court—orders commanding her not just that she must testify, but what she must say.

Doreen Hendrickson was charged two years ago with criminal contempt of court for refusing to comply with DOJ- and IRS-requested orders from a federal court in 2007. The court commanded Hendrickson to amend her freely-made tax returns for 2002 and 2003 with content dictated by the tax agency, by which she would be made to declare that all her earnings for those years are subject to the income tax. She eventually did submit the amended returns, but with a declaration that she had been coerced. The DOJ told the judge that the IRS could not process her returns under those circumstances.

The judge then ordered Mrs. Hendrickson to sign the dictated-content forms declaring under oath that she personally believes what she has been ordered to say, and to conceal the fact that the words are not her own. Such orders have never been made to an American before in history, whether in regard to a tax return or any other kind of document or testimony. “This is not a tax case. This is about my right to be in charge of my own testimony, to speak my conscience, and to protect my own property interests in a legal contest, even when that contest is with my government,” Hendrickson says. “If the court can force me to amend my return, put numbers on it dictated by the IRS that I know aren’t correct, and make me hide the fact that I was coerced, then you might as well set fire to the Bill of Rights.”

Mrs. Hendrickson has consistently said she doesn’t believe that all of her earnings are, in fact, taxable– a view the IRS itself took when first presented with her original returns, and which it has never contradicted over any agency official’s signature. In fact, even now, many years since those original returns were filed and many years since Mrs. Hendrickson was ordered to change them, the United States Department of Treasury records continue to agree with Hendrickson’s original figures.

Mrs. Hendrickson has testified to her actual beliefs on affidavits and in live testimony under oath in every hearing and trial that has been held concerning the matter. The government has never produced any evidence to the contrary, always simply arguing that she ought to believe differently because the IRS wants her to, and because the judge appears to believe what Hendrickson is being ordered to say.

Mrs. Hendrickson views the orders made to her to be violations of her right to control the content of her own speech, and of her right to due process, since the orders demand that she declare agreement with her adversary’s position on the taxable character of certain kinds of earnings– a matter which otherwise would likely be in dispute in future litigations between her and the United States.

Mrs. Hendrickson also views the orders as a violation of her right to refuse to be a witness against herself, since being forced to declare something contradicting her prior-filed returns now would not only compel her to commit perjury today, but would amount to a declaration that her previously-made testimony was false.

Mrs. Hendrickson strenuously argues that the orders she is accused of disobeying are unlawful, and therefore her refusal cannot be criminal contempt. After all, the statute she is accused of violating, specifically qualifies that it is disobedience of a lawful order that is punishable.

The government attorneys and the judge that presided over her trials apparently agree. At the government’s urging the judge instructed Mrs. Hendrickson’s jury that it must disregard the unlawfulness or unconstitutionality of the orders when deciding whether she was guilty of criminal contempt for resisting them.

The judge also instructed the jury that it need not unanimously find that Hendrickson actually did either of the two distinct alleged acts of contempt with which she was charged—another unprecedented feature of her trial. The trial ended in November, 2013 in a hung jury, and the government then tried again in July of 2014. At the close of the second trial, her jury, thus instructed, declared Mrs. Hendrickson to be guilty.

On April 9, 2015, Judge Victoria Roberts of the U.S. District Court in Detroit sentenced Mrs. Hendrickson to 18 months in prison. Mrs. Hendrickson was ordered to surrender herself into federal custody within 60 days—IF she submitted new amended returns with the government’s numbers and without any hint that they were coerced or disclaimed—otherwise, she would be forced to surrender within 30 days. Thus, the court continues to pressure Mrs. Hendrickson not only to give up her civil rights, but to commit a felony by filing false tax returns.

“This case is unprecedented. Mrs. Hendrickson is appealing, and we are confident that the Sixth Circuit will do the right thing and see this trial and conviction as unsupportable in a free society,” said her attorney, Mark Cedrone of Philadelphia. Fearing, however, that she will be made to suffer this penalty even while waiting for her appeal to be heard, Mrs. Hendrickson has asked Michigan’s Governor Rick Snyder and Attorney General Bill Schuette to stand in vindication of her Constitutionally-secured rights between her and the federal officials.

Governor Snyder and AG Schuette have not yet responded to Mrs. Hendrickson’s request.

Blessed Earth Day!

I almost forgot to post anything directly about Earth Day, although, clearly regular blog readers know that every day is Earth Day in my world.

I enjoyed John Beckett’s musings yesterday in his post, “The Candle of Earth Day,” which begins: “‘It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness’ – origin uncertain,” then shares his personal fight against the Texas State Legislators’ battle to ban any bans of fracking. As usual, John weaves together diversely personal and widely global strands into a contemplative tapestry. In response to ideas from, “’every day is Earth Day for Pagans’ to ‘Earth Day is like bringing flowers to the spouse you beat up last night’ to what is perhaps the most accurate ‘it’s just not enough,'” John reminds us:

But it’s still better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

This Earth Day let’s light a candle for the children of those Texas State Legislators who will have to live in the world their parents create. Let’s light a candle for the suburbanites who are so invested in their lifestyle they literally can’t imagine another way. Let’s light a candle for all those who are so accustomed to darkness they’ve forgotten how to see.

Because some of them will notice the candle, and they’ll wake up and see what’s going on around us.

I pray they do, because Mama’s not pleased with most of Her children. Her immense patience will not last forever. You can read John’s (cautiously hopeful) piece here.

Trillium and Other Garden Updates

It’s snowing in Goshen, so what better day for a Spring Garden Update?! I’m most excited to report that the trillium some friends and I rescued from a woodland turned GMO corn/soy farm are doing well in their new home. They returned, along with the beginnings of some rescued trout lily, Jack in the pulpit and what looks to be Dutchmen’s breeches. The trillium came up first:

I need to apologize for the blurriness of some of these photos. It has been insanely windy here for days! My poor peach tree needs to find a more sheltered home, because these Indiana winds are just crazy. They seriously seem to be coming from any and all directions, and like me, my little peach sapling does not like wind!

In other news, preparation for an intentional “Battle of the Invasives” has begun in the easement area, front street-side. With all the trucks that drive by and a brown field not too far away catty corner from us, across the street, I don’t really want to eat anything from this front area, nor do I want to continue weed whacking it once or twice per week. The faeries hate that weedwhacker, and I’d much rather create beauty than become Laura the Destroyer. Actually, I suspect all the deep wood mulch with its mycelium layers will remediate any toxins, but I’m still dedicating this area to beauty, butterflies, birds, bees and a “Battle of the Invasives.”

In addition to a tough as nails and gorgeous Robinhood Rose hedge set to arrive soon, I’ve got groundcover juniper on order, serviceberry trees from the city, and three Rose of Sharon bushes from my friend Patricia’s yard. The vast expanse of mulch will (hopefully) fill quickly with various floral groundcovers, including an Asian day lily promisingly named, “Little Invader.” I’ve got perennial (and spreading) daisies, yarrow from unwanted locations around the yard and other beds, creeping Elfin thyme, poppy seeds scattered, a hummingbird and butterfly seed mixture for naturalization, hyacinths, and some non-invasive perennials like Gerber daisies, dianthus, and soon to be planted hardy gladiolas.

The serviceberry trees are in bloom but difficult to capture with my camera, so I’ll show you this little guy, an experiment literally just stuck in the ground six feet from a dwarf apple tree. I bought two serviceberry bushes that never took last year, so we’ll see if this “impossible” (according to the city arborist) attempt will do better. I cut off a hard wood sucker from one of the front trees and stuck it in a strawberry hole. We’ll see what it does. If you can imagine this on a much larger scale, you’ll get a sense for how pretty the two trees look out front. You can see it here with hyssop, the ever present dandelions, strawberries and numerous other parts of a large backyard polyculture:

Also out back, we’ve got Quince and Elder with a bright floral crop of milk jug planted medicinal herbs holding down cardboard that desperately needs more wood mulch:

The front yard looks more presentable, with both the cherry and 3-way Asian pear tree in bloom, along with a few remaining daffodils and some chives that should take off this year:

Tulips are just starting to bulge — a little crossover bloom with the later daffodils:

Out back, a crate full of stinging nettles finally found a new home in an enormous tree-sized pot filled with compost, potting soil, rotting leaves and –on the bottom for drainage– broken chards of the terra cotta pots I lazily left outside for the winter. Yep, they really do crack as they freeze and thaw! At least they’re serving a new purpose. I love nettles, but I felt bad planting them into a yard we don’t own. I also didn’t want them to escape to neighbors who might treat them with toxic RoundUp. Meanwhile, they were busting out of the landscape cloth lined crate from two years ago. If I didn’t act soon, we’d have nettles regardless of whether or not I planted them. Enter: the tree pot, a generous, deep, sturdy container to let them grow lush and tall. I’ll just need to make sure they don’t go to seed.

Inside, I’ve started lots of annual seeds, which needed to go back to the warmer basement under fluorescent lights today since the porch is now too cold again for peppers, tomatoes, and other tender seedlings. Outside, though, the perennial veggies and cover crops are starting to show:

So there you have it! Potato seeds arrived yesterday, which means tomorrow will involve learning another new task. I’ve never grown taters before. In fact, I almost missed the deadline to order the little seed potatoes. On Saturday, something reminded me that a Master Gardener in this area always plants his on Good Friday, and I thought, “Doh! I guess I better order the seeds.” I have potato grow bags and various amendments. We’ll see how it goes. Clearly, the Mad Scientist Gardening continues, and the crazed plant lady here just ordered even more fruit trees, fruit bushes and mushrooms on a Spring Sale from Raintree Nursery. If all goes well, I should finally have the medlar tree that has obsessively haunted me for years. LOL, sometimes you just need to plant a weird tree to stop it from whispering in your ear all year!

And now I need to put on another layer. Despite all that garden talk, it’s still windy and cold in Goshen.

This is the coolest house ever!

Thanks, Zen!
