Door Number 20 ~ Oak, Ash and Thorn, aka the Isis Portal

I spent this past weekend, Monday and Tuesday painting a door given to me by our Goshen landlord when I took over the Blue House as an office next door. This was a skinny, dirty door with a shoelace handle, and we lugged it from Goshen when we moved to Kalamazoo in 2017. At some point, I felt eager to paint another door, but David told me he threw it away in our purge after arriving. He really thought he had, so whenever I wished I could paint this door, he’d say, “No, remember, I threw it away. I’m sorry.” I just couldn’t get it into my head that he had really thrown it away, no matter how many times he told me.

Fast forward to the weekend before Thanksgiving when David suddenly decided we needed a lighting upgrade in our dining room. He changed the chandelier to LED lights with an LED dimmer, and the flicker, hiss and tone drove me batty. It wasn’t just “Laura’s sensitive to light and sound,” this was awful! Like, I will never eat at home again kind of bad. He switched things back to incandescent with a new dimmer and installed 60-watt incandescent bulbs instead of 40’s. That change also caused an audible hiss and strobe effect: back to the 40-watts, but David had gotten used to much more light.

We compromised by buying a three-headed LED floor lamp for the corner, which meant moving plants to different locations. It also opened up the other side of the dining room window, as that plant went into our bathroom, replacing a plant that really wanted to go up front. The former plant location looked barren, but having a plant on only one side of the window looked imbalanced. We agreed to keep the area clear and that we’d know the next thing when we encountered it.

We spent a lovely Thanksgiving at David’s cousins’ house with their daughter, son-in-law, grandkids and friends from Canada. When new people ask what I do, I always need to intuit what kind of answer to give. This time I said, “I’m a life coach and an artist,” intending to gloss over both topics without going too much into either one. I didn’t mention “intuitive” or “writer” because I didn’t want to get into those discussions as an unknown guest at someone else’s close family gathering.

“Ohhhh, what do you paint?!”

“We need to see pictures.”

Each new person who walked into the room learned: “Laura paints doors. Yes, doors! We really need to see some photos.”

I pulled up the Divine Doorways and Porta-Portals page on my phone, so I could show them a few quick photos, but the talk continued all day. Our hostess volunteered to get a truck so she could drive me to galleries with all my doors. David and I explained that I’ve been painting canvases lately, because the doors are so large and heavy. Someone mentioned getting me more doors just for gallery showings, as which point, I said, “Oh, I do love doors! They’re so much more fun to paint than canvases. There was this one small door, a real skinny one from our last landlord, but David threw it away.”

“Actually, I found it.”

“YES!” (insert triumphant arm motion)

I got so excited I didn’t realize everyone had stopped talking and was staring at me, then celebrating. It turns out David found the door when they cleared out the surrounding area to install our new furnace. It had been tucked up in a dirt floor storage loft on the side of our basement.

I mention this background story, because it goes along with the portal’s theme. I must have been downloading this door for months in my dreams. The moment I located it last Saturday, November 30, I cleaned it and started carrying it to different spots in the house. The only spot it would fit well just happened to be the spot we cleared the prior weekend in our dining room.

What am I going to paint? Immediately, I heard: “Oak, Ash and Thorn” and “You’re going to integrate that Isis Yod in your natal chart. That Venus transit over the South Node conjunct your North Node — the one you’re so nervous about because anything crossing your North Node has huge ripple effects? Yeah, that’s the one. You’re going to paint a portal to integrate your North Node at 8° Capricorn with your Pholus at 7° 48′ Pisces/Mars at 10° Pisces  and the apex of asteroids Isis and Asbolus at 8° Leo. Just do it. You’ll feel so much better.”

Everything came fast with this portal, and it came back to front. Many of my portal doors feature two sides, but the back usually remains private and not for show. This time, I Reiki’d then primed the whole door in one afternoon and coded intentions down the sides as the first step. Usually, the Runic coded sides are the last thing I do, with the back as the second last. Instead, the intentions announced themselves, along with writing them using the Runa Faery Tradition, the first of three Runic systems I learned. One side says, “Highest Good of All,” and the other side features Carl Jung’s quote, “Free will is doing gladly and freely that which one must do.”

Once I finished the side Runes, the design for the Isis side came fully formed. I suppose this makes sense, since the asteroid Isis, which represents the Goddess Isis and her powers of integration, regeneration, Divine Feminine, Sacred Wisdom and Mystery sits in my natal 12th house — the house of dreams and the unconscious. Since she helps with integration, I figured she’s the perfect apex of this tricky to integrate natal Yod. In astrology, a Yod looks like a tall isosceles triangle, and it represents a kind of soul directive, a tricky task one “must” integrate this lifetime. I’ve never found a way to wriggle out of a Yod, so I figured I might as well work with this one.

This painting came so fast, with almost no revision, either. I apologize for quality of the photos. It’s very difficult to photograph doors anyway, especially during the low light of Michigan winter. Here are some shots, though. You can see the symbol for North Node in the top panel, Isis rising up the middle panel, an Ankh, and the bottom panel in Runes. Translated, that column reads, “Serenity, Courage, Wisdom,” the requests of the Serenity Prayer. (“God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference.”)

IMG_3793.jpg

Some people consider the Ankh a symbol of Life or Eternal Life. I also like my friend James’ take on the Ankh as a mirror to the Self. “Know Thyself,” is a big focus of astrology. My natal chart includes some powerful, “easy” aspects, but it also contains two Yod’s related to my career and life path. I suspect the next paintings will deal with the other Yod, but who knows? Clearly, I don’t run this creative show. 🙂

I’ve had so many precognitive dreams lately, hence the Precognitive Blues series. All my dreams tell me I have amazing things coming, but I don’t see how the details of those dreams fit with my current life. Despite the happy, reassuring messages, they imply loss and grief, unless I’m missing something. Whenever I try to interpret things on a symbolic level only, I get avalanches of synchronicities showing me how my dreams literally come true. In any case, when I read Astrobutterfly’s recent post and realized what kind of popcorn activations I’ll receive this December, I panicked. Just a little bit. Just the right amount of panic to make me go, “Wait a second. There’s a door for that!”

As soon as I coded the sides of the door, my anxiety lessened. When I painted Isis, the North Node panel and the “Serenity, Courage, Wisdom” panel, a deep calm settled into my heart and solar plexus.

Since I thought this would be the back of the door, I painted fast and things just flowed. The whole time I painted, this little owl bottle cap kept staring at me. David had saved it from a 2017 Bell’s Best Brown Ale, a Kalamazoo favorite, and for some reason, it was sitting in the corner of our counter by the door’s location. I felt led to add it as the “doorknob” next to the Ankh. Owls always open doors for me, so this seemed like a great sync wink to have the owl stand in as the doorknob.

IMG_3796

I felt so happy with the back of the door that I could have stopped painting then and there, except for the “Oak, Ash and Thorn” visions (and song) in my head. I knew the portal was only halfway done. The back represents the apex of the Yod, hidden away in my 12th house, while the front needs to integrate my wild, crazy Pholus (small thing/BIG EFFECT) and Mars in Pisces with a hypersensitive Capricorn North Node.

Whenever anything crosses over my North Node, I feel it in a huge way. In April 2018, I had three NDE’s in one week when Saturn crossed over it. When Pluto crossed over it, I had a series of nightmares and travel restrictions. When Neptune crossed over it, my entire family life and understanding of reality dissolved. I painted Isis to anchor something … to provide a sense of calm and stability before transiting Venus, Jupiter and Pholus cross over that spot in succession. Venus crosses that spot every year, but not usually when the transiting South Node sits on my natal North Node, or when my progressed Venus just happens to sit at the apex of that Yod. Those factors intensify the process. I needed an attitude adjustment. Instead of anticipating disaster or trauma. I wanted an upgrade of Faery Fun.

Oak, ash and thorn trees traditionally grow near sacred wells and locations favored by the faeries. At first, I thought I would just paint one tree in each panel and continue the back’s simplicity onto the front. I realized that a white, brown and green door wouldn’t look right in our dining room, though. We have existing artwork, and our open space also makes that door visible from many different angles of the house. I needed to integrate not only the Yod and Node in my chart, but also fit this door within the context of our entire home.

For the first time painting the front of a portal, I had no idea what to paint other than those three trees and their Ogham alphabet names. Again, the door proceeded backwards. I painted the trees last, not first. Decorative elements piled on top of each other, and I wrote the quote early on, when usually that’s my last thing to do on the front of a door. Because of the bright colors and our dim December daylight, I really can’t get good photos of the front, but here’s a peek:

IMG_3783

In addition to paint, the front of the door features an entire bracelet full of sunstone, used to highlight the orbs, an amber doorknob, a Lemurian seed crystal on the oak, and gauzy fabric on some of the other orbs to give them a 3D floaty feeling. I also mixed modeling paste with the paint for the bark and leaves of the trees. From bottom to top, you’ll find oak, ash, and thorn, with their Ogham names written above each panel. When I added the Lemurian crystal to the oak trunk, I felt energy leap up the portal. It “activated” so strong and fast that I needed to go on a walk to ground the energy.

IMG_3786

I’m bummed I can’t seem to get the colors right in the photos. It looks and feels much more alive in person. You can see some of the 3D leaf effects on the angle:

IMG_3792

Depending on where the light hits, different parts of the door glow and shimmer.

IMG_3784

The orbs arose because I was listening to a lecture about Hildegard of Bingen and J.R.R. Tolkien. (Fantastic lecture, btw, which you can find here.)

IMG_3791

The crystals arose, because the door looked too busy with all the orbs. I thought David would have me paint over them, but he liked them. Hmmmm, how do I integrate the orbs and French curves? “Bling! I need more bling.” I kept thinking of this bracelet and remembering how the owl bottle cap stared at me then worked so well as the doorknob, I pulled out the sunstone bracelet, realizing the colors worked perfectly with the range of orb colors.

I glued them on and in process glued my thumb and forefinger together. Although I drew blood separating them, I took it as a good sign. While creating a portal for integration, I found some parts so tightly entwined that it took my own mini blood sacrifice to separate them. Kinda witchy, magical, dramatic … just the sort of substitute I hope the portal achieves for any real life trauma-drama.

Between gluing sessions, I happened to do a phone session for a friend/client who only recently found her correct birth certificate and time. I took a look at her chart, and it just so happens that she has a natal Yod only 2 degrees off from mine. Hers involves a 12th house 10° Leo North Node, and Sun and Moon at 10° Pisces and Capricorn. I took that as a synchronous confirmation of the portal in effect. I finished painting the trees after our call and then felt it needed one more thing, the Lemurian quartz on the oak trunk.

The vibration turned very Faery with that addition. In fact, with the Oak, Ash, and Thorn side out, this portal sings at such a high frequency I sometimes need to turn it around. As I type, I’ve got the Isis side facing outward, calm and potent. When we want to ramp up the fun, over-the-top, “just the right amount of too much” energy, we can reverse the door.

After the fact, I discovered that the entire time I painted the portal, Venus was already in orb of my North Node, sitting right on it for much of the major painting. I also found sunstone a perfect stone to add since it brings light, positive energy, protection, and the ability to let your full, true self shine through. Amber acts as fire energy, along with sunstone, and in Feng Shui terms our dining room forms our Fame/Reputation/Fire area. I finished painting just as the Moon came within orb of my 7° 48′ Pholus, that activator Centaur carrying the energy of small thing/BIG EFFECT.

Dreams, sessions, synchronicities and my inner sense of calm tell me the portal already took effect. These doors continue to activate themselves many years later, so we’ll see what else this one does. For now, I found it a perfect way to utilize that double Venus energy on my North Node and in my 12th house. In addition to love, Venus also rules the arts, so creating a large work of art on a hidden and rediscovered door synchronized it all together.

I hope you enjoyed this little portal excursion. I love using creativity and inspiration to resolve what rationality and ego cannot or will not integrate. For the full list of portal doors and links to their descriptions, please click here.

  2. You are such a great artists Laura! The door is beautiful! Both sides. I love how you describe how your mind works through this whole process. The symbolism you use on the door is fantastic. Drawing Isis winged is perfect. In Ancient Egyptian symbolism winged Gods and Goddesses symbolized non physical abstract dynamics. I would have to say that if I was describing you it would be Intellectual, spiritual, imaginative and psychic. All non physical abstract dynamics. 😉
I also really love the Lemurian Crystal. I have always been pulled towards them. I don’t know why, but I really love them. Maybe I spent some time in Lemuria.
Great Post! Oh and thanks for the reblog on the Ankh.

  4. An aMAZing door and portal! The Isis side is so stylish, direct, and commanding, and I love the roots of the oak tree and the quote beneath them on the other side. Such a juxtaposition of energies! Exactly what you were seeking.

I simply MUST create my own portal door in this coming year!

Know what’s freaky? I also have Pholus in Pisces. I had to look it up after our last email and sure enough there it is. Very interesting description of your thought/artistic process and I like the Jung quote which is new to me. Also I thought I would mention that my very first impression of the NN symbol on this door was that it was a torc, or decorative ring of twisted metal that can be worn around the neck or wrist, often a Celtic ornamentation from ancient times. I get the impression they were mostly for notable, influential persons (of which you certainly are!) which accents the influence of Isis as well. 🙂

  12. Oops, didn’t mean to post that yet. Pholus moves very slowly so it’s not so freaky. We are close enough in age that it makes sense. The orb is important with Pholus because it moves slow, though. It’s only 2 degrees each way. In Pisces I give it a little tiny bit more because Pisces has no boundaries.

Very cool about the torc. I had a meaningful dream followed by synchronous confirmation in which someone spoke Irish Gaelic. When I looked up the name, I got the message. Also, I had another Irish sync from a dream yesterday —upon investigating. My Dream Guys have fun with me —sending tricky messages but making it super easy and obvious to decode the meanings. Thanks for thinking I am one who would wear a torc. Honored!

  13. Wonderful to read about your creative process Laura! Thank you for sharing both sides of your door.

This past July I organized a conference on consciousness and contact on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Many amazing things happened during the conference but the one connected to your door took place on Saturday as a line of cars assembled to drive to the Badlands. It was around 6:30 in the afternoon/evening and I was sitting in the lead car with Whitley Strieber, Alan Steinfeld of New Realities, Kevin Briggs, Faith Holmes and Annie Wenger-Nabigon when I looked up to see that the car was surrounded on all sides by luminous pink angelic orbs! There were hundreds of them. After a few moments, approximately forty of fifty orbs were inside the car, dancing around. They escorted us the entire 25 miles to the Badlands. The energy was so high and the light was extraordinary.

Our third conference will be this coming July. In addition, I am partnering with friends from South Dakota to create the Thunderheart Center for the Arts which will open June 15th. It provides living and studio space for artists and writers to come stay for a month or more of their time to create work. South Dakota is an amazing place!

I’m in love with the door ❤ I have been thinking of painting my own portal for my upcoming 9 personal year, as I am so super nervous about it. You and Jason have inspired me to use visual art more to help ground and direct energy. I also love your detailed descriptions of the elements involved. In particular, I love the inclusion of the Lemurian quartz. I have a pink Lemurian quartz that I keep with me all the time. She has an associated entity who has become a dear friend and mentor. Most of the astrology still goes right over my head, but I love it any time someone explains their thought process and all the layers of meaning. Right up my alley ❤ Sending you lots of love ❤ ❤ ❤

Very nice artwork!! Especially LOVE the 3D trees, and your ISIS. The side with the trees and sunstones actually feels grounding to me, while the ISIS side lifts me. But I also feel the calmness there. Maybe the door is lifting you up to a higher-energy existence and grounding you there, surrounded by great beauty and limitless love and energy?

Interesting what you write about the nodes, and how you are so sensitive to transiting planets there. What happens to you when your south node is impacted? I just used that Astro-Seek site to check my own transits (thanks for that BTW), and I found that Saturn is now conjuct my south node; while Pluto, Venus, and my Sun are trining it.

I also have a LOT of squares being activated. I wondered why I was feeling so strange lately. But I felt an immediate need to look after I just got a *major* download in my dreams. I think I got confirmation of why I am here and what my mission is.

I’ll contact you soon about taking a look at my upcoming transits. Like you, I feel something major brewing, and my dreams have been…disturbed, to say the least!! But I also have had a vision of what may be about to happen, and it’s all good in the end. Your sharing over the last few months has overlapped a lot with what I’m getting, and I find it comforting, so thank you 🙂

  20. Thanks, Anthony. Yes, I do feel like I’m living more permanently from a different frequency since I painted the door. I was moving in and out of that bandwidth a lot, but now I feel like that’s just where I live.

South Node is more past life related and old pattern related. I’m sure I had a lot of stuff going on with that back when I was having tons and tons of past life bleedthrough, but so much of that has resolved itself since 2006-2010. WIth Saturn conjunct you SN, you’re likely having a bunch of karmic stuff “up” for clearing.

You are either living in a different universe where Saturn is not within 3 degrees of Pluto right now, or you’ve made a glitchy error looking at your transits. It’s not possible, in the reality where Saturn is within 3 degrees of Pluto for Saturn to be conjuncting your SN while Pluto, Venus and your Sun are trining it. Do you mean that in your natal chart your Pluto, Venus and Sun trine it? Sorry, I don’t have your chart on hand to look that up, but transiting Pluto could not be trining your South Node right now if transiting Saturn is conjunct it … unless … you’re in a different reality than I am. I always leave room for that, because I’ve seen some mighty strange things in my day, but I suspect you’re either talking natal not transits, or you’ve misread the Astro-Seek site. I do recall you having a Cancer NN, so transiting Saturn on your SN right now would make sense. That would seem to mean that transiting Pluto is also somewhere near your SN, too.

I’m glad my dreams and other sharing has brought some comfort. While I do have visions of some personal “earthquakes,” those always end with assurances that I will be fine, that I will be happy, that all is in Divine and Perfect Order, that I just need to trust all is and will be well. The other dreams are off the hook happy, creative, productive and wildly successful. Then, there are all the details in whatever dreams I’m having that keep immediately coming true in real life, urging me to trust the other dreams will, too. Prepare for joy and sorrow: they coexist and my life is very Kahlil Gibran:

“Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Some of you say, “Joy is greater thar sorrow,” and others say, “Nay, sorrow is the greater.”
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits, alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.

When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and his silver, needs must your joy or your sorrow rise or fall.”

I suspect that goes for many of us. 🙂

    Thanks Laura!

Yeah, you’re right, it’s my natal chart where Saturn is trining those three planets. And Pluto is also wreaking havoc!! Sorry for the mixup; I’m new to astrology and am still learning the language. What is coming up for me are reminders of who I am at a core level, and the dreams I am having are telling me in no uncertain terms that it is “GO TIME”.

Thanks for that Gibran share!! It brings on more memories and confirms for me why I am here. If I’m right, I came here (as part of a team) from the future, imprinted with a “homing signal”. We came here to help hold the line during these times. And: this is what we do! We actually seek out situations in the universes like what is happening here right now.

The reason is very much because we know that the darker things get, the greater the rewards on the other side of them – and the more people we can help along the way, the higher (and longer) we can collectively shoot into a bright future. Have you ever read Barbara Marciniak’s “Bringers of the Dawn”? That book more than anything describes the journey I’m taking. And…when you suggested reading that “101” book, I think you may have known… 🙂

Thanks again, and I’ll contact you for some more counseling after your angels get off their butts and give you part #4!!

You mean, you can’t bilocate yet?!

Good luck with the project. But I’ll share something I saw that might be helpful, especially since time seems to be growing “short”:

For eons of time, we have had our consciousness locked into our physical existence(s). Dreams, and the afterlife, have only been ephemeral to us. What I believe will happen soon is that the focus of our consciousness will soon move into the dreamworld, and all our physical existences will then seem “ephemeral” to our new way of being. We will still exist here (and everywhere else), but we will be free to send our consciousness into each realm where we exist, and experience physicality (though it will vary with each realm).

Of course, you probably already know this. After all, I have always been a little sloooowww on the uptake…
