My Own Take on this Mercury Retrograde, Beginning February 6, 2014

Several people have asked me for a gloss on Ann’s and others’ articles about this potent Mercury Retrograde period, which began on February 6, 2014 at 4:44 p.m. East Coast time and officially runs through February 27th, not counting the Shadow Periods on either end. I encourage people to read or reread my earlier general tips for surviving and even thriving in Mercury Retrograde, but due to the requests for more clarity and guidance about this particular one, I will share some additional observations here.

First of all, I have a lot of Mercury in my chart. Tons. Mercury rules my Gemini Sun and my Virgo Ascendant, and I’ve got lots of key planets in Gemini, which means that I needed to learn how to turn Mercury Retrograde periods to my own advantage, or else face extreme inconvenience and even disaster for 9-12 weeks per year. Been there, done that … for awhile. No thanks! After some rough go rounds, I opted for learning how to thrive during the Rx periods, and the article linked above shares some of the most transferable ways to do that.

When examining this particular Merc Rx, the biggest factor appears to be Neptune, which rules addictions, illusions, mystical experiences, the ocean, and the sign of Pisces. Since Mercury Retrograde periods tend to build upon previous Merc Rx’s, they provide opportunities to review and revise where we found ourselves in the past few Mercury Retrograde periods. If you can’t remember those details, have a look at this chart and your calendar. Perhaps it will jog some memories. This first Merc Rx of 2014 — occurring in dreamy Neptune — will support (read: “push”) you to reevaluate areas of life in which you’ve allowed yourself to be fooled by illusions, sucked into addictions (relationships, substances, habits), or “forced” to invite inappropriate boundaries.

Anytime we find ourselves bamboozled, it’s tempting to blame the other person, the government, “the cabal” or whomever we feel perpetrated the deception. This Mercury Retrograde period will call us out as individuals who willingly participated in the lies. As individuals and as a society, we will need to accept our own responsibility in the dance of illusion, addiction and legerdemain, or else actively relegate ourselves to delusions that will — at best — prevent full satisfaction in life and — at worst — potentially result in the extermination of the human race. Yes, the stakes are high right now, and this first quarter of 2014 raises them even more.

I often recommend the website http://narcissismfree.com, both for the articles and the valuable ebooks. Kaleah does a great job explaining the sticky web of lies and illusion used by narcissists to ensnare their “victims,” and we live in an incredibly narcissistic society. I appreciate Kaleah’s work because she empowers people to see beyond the script, beyond what magicians and the Faery Realm call the “Glamour” — specters and projections that bear little resemblance to reality. In fact, the narcissistic web and “Glamour” often present the exact opposite of reality, making the ugly appear beautiful, the weak impenetrable, and the vampire generous. Throughout and following this Mercury Retrograde in Neptune, humanity will suffer exponentially greater pain for failing to pierce the Glamour. Those who do dismantle the projections will likely feel initial shock replaced by more freedom, exhilaration and possibility than they’ve ever felt before.

On a global level, I find it interesting that the Olympics fall smack dab in Mercury Retrograde. Whatever dastardly false flag plans anyone has for those Games will likely face the wrath of Murphy’s Law; however, any grand illusion presented might initially gain a worldwide following. That belief should be short lived, though, and the global backlash against what eventually reveals itself as obvious trickery might amuse a different kind of spectator. I would suggest a 30-day unplugging challenge during this Merc Rx and Shadow period. If you own a tell-LIE-vision, turn the lying thing off! If you listen to talk radio, turn it off. Ditto most Hollywood films. Without those three bastions of mass illusion for 30 days, you’ll go a long way towards reclaiming your mind.

If you know you have an active addiction to something else, then now might be a great time to review how you got into that set of circumstances in the first place. Consider upgrading any addictions you know you have. If you want to quit smoking, transmute that compulsion into exercise and/or meditation. Until humans fully heal, addictive holes remain, so it’s usually much easier to replace an addiction with a better quality habit than just trying to eliminate it.

If you, like me, like to utilize the predominant energies to amplify intentions, then get creative! Nebulous Neptune blurs boundaries, which can really help with brainstorming. If you’ve set aside a creative project, then the current energies support a fresh look and revision. If something seemingly immovable in your life or in this world upsets you, then the current energies offer optimal times for what I call Houdini-ing your way out. In order to escape illusions, it helps to know how one creates illusions. You can reverse engineer magick and Glamour as much as scientists reverse engineer technology. Deconstruct, revise, and rebuild. During Mercury Retrograde, think “re-.” Neptune gives you the most potent areas for the re-‘s: addictions, illusions, deceptions, and all things murky or lost at sea.

Haha, I just typed “see” instead of “sea,” and both meanings hold true for this period. Practice seeing with your inner eye, and you’ll find intuition expands.

[WordPress just told me I finished the initial post at 888 words, which emphasizes the infinite potential of this period, doubles the 4:44 start time of the Mercury Retrograde, and, according to Doreen Virtue:

“888 — A phase of your life is about to end, and this is a sign to give you forewarning to prepare. This number sequence may mean you are winding up an emotional career or relationship phase. It also means there is light at the end of the tunnel. In addition it means, The crops are ripe. Don’t wait to pick and enjoy them. In other words, don’t procrastinate in making your move or enjoying the fruits of your labor.”

Wise words.]

    Hi Laura 🙂

Thanks for this and yesterday’s post. Mercury retrograde seems to affect me a lot, and noticing its effects over the years was one of the main reasons I started to take astrology seriously. Things started to go a little awry for me on Wednesday (blurring in) which was confusing, but your post reminded me why which I’m glad of. Mercury retrograde is definitely bolt the doors and batten down the hatches time for me, but I feel more inclined to put a positive spin on it this time and get creative as you suggest ~ I hope it’s a good period for you too! 🙂

I love Doreen Virtue, googling her about something or other about a year ago (oracle cards I think) was how I originally came across your blog. I have found her Angel number sequences very useful over the years, so now I’m out of hibernation and planning for the year, I’m going to make note of the 888 and apply extra verve to the changes I’m making!

For anyone reading who doesn’t know Doreen Virtue’s number sequences from the Angels, here is a link to a good summary:

  8. This Merc Rx has gotten off to a roaring start for me as well. I have lost/forgotten several items this week, had two items stolen, and had a package misplaced by the post office. Also, because where I live has had repeated storms and plumbing upsets, weird insects keep showing up in the house – ew! I have taken the hint to do a massive clearout of the pantry, of my diet, and also just clutter clear in general. Today was dancing to old funk music and cleaning 🙂

  9. I love cleaning to music! Definitely lifts the mundane up several notches in fun and meaning. I, too, have had things disappear then reappear in unusual spots at unusual times. We don’t have any weird “real” insects in this house that I know of, but wow, did I have a weird insect dream this morning! 🙂

Well, we made it through Merc Rx but remain in the Shadow Period. I was struck this evening by just how accurately much of this played out. No successful false flag at the Olympics, the oops moment of a recorded phone call proving US and EU meddling in the Ukraine, explorations of willing participation in the lie, and full on mirroring of ways in which some of us unwittingly perpetuate the lie. Indeed, Merc Rx conjunct Neptune has brought powerful awakening of the sort that cannot be put back to sleep … Not to mention a portal door whose positive effects I have already begun to witness. I finish typing this at 9:11 –speaking of undoing illusions!

  11. LOL, I see my previous comment from February 9, and, though I don’t remember what that “weirdest insect dream was,” I am certain that this morning’s topped it. Too funny.
