Synchronicity and Inner Guidance

This post comes from a 2012 blog post that synchronously arose today after a dream about a huge sign, the need for a screen upon which to project a “movie” and a magical, un-containable rabbit. I decided to write it up as a separate post rather than reblogging because the end of the original post references things specific to that time period. The post itself seems just as relevant today as it did nearly 10 years ago:

Regular readers of my blog know that I’m a huge fan of synchronicity and “reading” signs. With a Masters Degree in English, I’ve simply expanded my definition of “text” to include this entire living, breathing Universe. I thought I’d share some perspectives on synchronicity and how it pertains to inner guidance, seeking and finding, and divination (specifically tarot).

“Synchronistic meetings are like mirrors that reflect something of ourselves. If we want to grow spiritually, all we have to do is take a good look. Synchronicity holds the promise that if we want to change inside, the patterns of our external life will change as well.” ~Jean Shinoda Bolen

“According to Vedanta, there are only two symptoms of enlightenment, just two indications that a transformation is taking place within you toward a higher consciousness. The first symptom is that you stop worrying. Things don’t bother you anymore. You become light hearted and full of joy. The second symptom is that you encounter more and more meaningful coincidences in your life, more and more synchronicities. And this accelerates to the point where you actually experience the miraculous.” ~Deepak Chopra

“Synchronicity hints at the unified world behind the illusory veil of the material universe.” ~Roger S. Jones

“Synchronicity is choreographed by a great, pervasive intelligence that lies at the heart of nature, and is manifest in each of us through intuitive knowledge.” ~Deepak Chopra

When people first begin to experience synchronicity, the phenomenon may feel a bit overwhelming. Clients often as me if I think they’re “crazy” for noticing signs. Others ask me, “Well?! What does it mean? Does it just happen because I’m looking for it?”

In my opinion and experience, the answer’s a bit more complex. Since attitude helps to create our world, how we feel about synchronous events plays an important role. Do we feel a sinking feeling? Does a series of closed doors fill us with dread when we keep pushing them to open? Or do we sense, “If not this, then something better”? When synchronicity blasts into your awareness, it can easily throw you into the ethers due to a persistent sense of invisible order or interference. If you feel ungrounded or spooked, get back in touch with your body. How does it feel? What messages might you be ignoring, which have now played outwards as external events? As Carl Jung reminds us, “Whatever is not conscious will be experienced as fate.”

Jung defines synchronicity as “meaningful coincidence,” further explaining, “Synchronicity reveals the meaningful connections between the subjective and objective world.” But who provides the meaning? Although I do not believe anything occurs randomly in the Universe, trying to assign meaning to every single event becomes a maddening rabbit hole. I often use a three time’s the charm measure: if something jumps out at me once, I make note of it but don’t necessarily take action; second time really gets my attention; by the third time, I begin to formulate a different direction.

That’s my general, everyday operating principle. In times of extreme prayer and quiet (or sometimes intensely loud) seeking, I pay attention to everything. I almost scan the Universe like I scan a client’s energy — searching for anomalies. I don’t force anomalies to appear. Rather, I soften my observation, blur things a bit, and pay attention to whatever pokes through. In an impressionistic painting, a touch of Salvador Dali or Piet Mondrian would certainly stand out! It’s not that impressionists are better or worse than Dali or Mondrian, just different. Having something obviously ordered, yet differently ordered begs my further attention and exploration. For those who don’t know the art history references, I’ve included a few images:

Monet is probably the most famous impressionist painter

Claude Monet ~ The Water Lily Pond with the Japanese Bridge

Imagine something like this image below inserting itself into the above scene:

Painting from a series by Piet Mondrian

Mondrian painted in primary colors and black and white, distinctly using squares and rectangles. Repeats of that might very well grab your attention inside a Monet painting, right? And what about this?

The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali

The Dali might seem (ever so slightly) less jarring than the Mondrian image if it inserted itself into the Monet, but I’d imagine the melting clocks over the bridge just might grab your attention!

Actually, I love this particular Dali in a discussion of synchronicity, because a hallmark of that subjective “meaning” seems somehow very connected to the compression of time. If the seemingly linked events hadn’t occurred at the exact moment they occurred, we might have simply overlooked them, or allowed them to fade into a background blur. Synchronicity involves anomaly, Divine timing, and a willingness to see beyond what you might normally expect.

I always suggest people pray for eyes to see the signs, wisdom to interpret them, and faith to follow through on them. If you’re going to pray, you might as well go all out!

But what happens when you’re just not sure? What happens if you see so many signs, some of which seem to send conflicting messages? Since we live in a vibrational Universe, Abraham-Hicks would say your experience alters as your point of attraction alters. They’ve often used the analogy of taking a trip from Phoenix to San Diego. It’s a straight shot, and if you keep heading towards your intention, you’ll get there. If, however, you become discouraged when you hit Yuma, you might endlessly cycle between Phoenix and Yuma and back to Phoenix, without ever arriving at your intended destination. In this case, your own personal synchronicities might be all over the place, depending on whether you’re heading towards San Diego or back to Phoenix!

Enter some additional wisdom from Carl Jung: “We can predict the future when we know how the present moment has evolved out of the past.” Towards the end of his life, Jung became very interested in divination tools like the I Ching and the Tarot. He regretted that he had too few participants to create a full study, but modern Tarot Readers often draw upon Jungian ideas like Archetypes and Synchronicity as a means of interpreting Tarot spreads. To me, that makes perfect sense, since which cards appear in any given spread simply reflects the vibration of whoever’s receiving the reading. The cards provide a visual, complete with artwork, Archetypes and a potential storyline (via the suit cards).

You can think of your thoughts as seeds or even eggs, which contain all the nutrients for full blown creation. Synchronicities and Tarot can be seen as indicators of how closely your vibration’s aligning with the thoughts you most want to take form. As above, so below! Great manifestors know and live this maxim. If they don’t like the tone of synchronicities, inner monologue or readings, they harness positivity and redirect their thoughts. As the saying goes:

“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

This all comes from an older post I had completely forgotten about, but it popped up right after a dream about signs and synchronicities. Perhaps someone out there’s been wondering about these topics. In any case, I hope you find the flow of ideas helpful and timely on your journey.

Repeat Numbers, Signs and Manifestation

So many clients book sessions after seeing number sequences, signs and other synchronicities. They want to know if they’re “crazy” for believing in things not yet seen based on repeat numbers, dreams or coincidences. I usually say something like, “No, you’re not crazy, but interpretation is key. Let’s explore.” I include here the most frequent number “meanings” I encounter, based on 17 years as a medical intuitive and synchronicity guide. Individual results can vary, as the whole picture remains important, but this list will give you a good start:

Repeating 1’s tell you to watch your thoughts because you’re in a manifestation gateway. If you like your thoughts, great! If the 111’s occur with negative thoughts, explore your fears to see if making adjustments now will troubleshoot and strengthen the overall feeling of your intention. If you seek liberation, joy, or success, lean into those feelings as primary rather than any details you can’t logically work out. Align your thoughts with the way you want to feel, since your feelings about something = your lived experience. The details will sort themselves. 11:11 says things are moving in the direction of your thoughts. Make sure those thoughts align with what you hope to feel! Affirmation: “I use the power of my mind to delight my soul.” Continue reading

Leo New Moon

Another guest blog post from the lovely Electra Jung of http://signsfromabove.net. She emphasizes opening the heart wide, and boy do I feel it! Intense, magical times right now. I’m not sure I’ve ever felt such polarities on this planet –so much high vibe love and light, and so much scrambling and desperation from the fear mongerers and gangster-banksters. What an incredible time to be alive! Here’s Electra’s Leo New Moon message:

Leo New Moon

Love is… a state of being

“Love is not so much something I do as something that I am. Love is not a doing but a state of being – a relatedness, a connectedness to another mortal, an identification with her or him that simply flows within me and through me, independent of my intentions or my efforts.”– Robert A. Johnson

“Leo is the power of love and the lion-hearted courage to remain open hearted and mindful of your personal involvements and the decisions you make along the way…every day. Watch yourself…observe your own stubborn behavior…as your consciousness continues to shift… be in this moment of awareness… choose to shift with love.” –Electra Jung

The spiritual path doesn’t require us to get anything. It’s a process of opening to new dimensions of who we already are. It’s a process of awakening to our own truth. It’s a process of allowing ourselves to be authentic.

“When you are aware that you are the force that is Life, anything is possible. Miracles happen all the time, because those miracles are performed by the heart. The heart is in direct communion with the human soul, and when the heart speaks, even with the resistance of the head, something inside you changes; your heart opens another heart, and true love is possible.”
— Don Miguel Ruiz

This New Moon in Leo provides the heat and passion toward new romances on impulse…by now your life’s experiences have brought you confidence through self-awareness. The events since the beginning of the year have brought crises in relationships, family circumstances and challenges in health issues which have demanded new levels of attention and personal adjustment.

Each and every opportunity to express love is the process of evolution and heart awakening. Consider the absolute Grace of our connected living on this planet and now shifting into deeper heart-centered thought, feeling and activity with every divine opportunity which arrives daily. Risk everything for love… choose love now…and welcome the risk of loss and heartache which is more common as we learn to continually open our heart chakra to future possibilities.

Perhaps there are those you have convinced you haven’t a care in the world… that you are perfectly self-reliant…that you are happy alone and secure in your daily routine. This facade supports the on-going divine-discontent by creating a wall of resistance between you and the ones you love…between you and yourself and between you and your god-self.

“People ask what must they become to be loving. The answer is ‘nothing.’ It is a process of letting go of what you thought you had become and allowing your true nature to float to the surface naturally.”
— Stephen Levine

The Leo New Moon is governed by a dynamic solar energy…the Sun itself is powerful in its own sign and can express itself easily. The Sun is the symbol of spirit the life force of the universe. Leo is the sign that rules the spine and the heart in the body which represents Will and Love. These are the motivating powers of desire and the will to be. Isabel Hickey

In order to feel good about yourself, confident and re- vitalized, your first priority is attending to the nutritional and chi energy of your amazing physical/electrical vehicle which houses your soul for its earthly experiences. The area of weakness is the heart due to disappointment in love, heart-ache, poor diet through lack of self-respect. Commit yourself to an outside regimen of solar healing. Walk in nature and bathe in the rainbow vibration of the full spectrum light of the Sun.

Align yourself with spiritual direction and begin to consciously release blocks in your center. Your heart chakra hardens through fear, resentment and grief. Breathe deeply and with focus allow your heart to open and remain so through daily attention to this most important process. The thymus gland is associated with the heart chakra.

The Thymus Gland is important because of its relationship to our will to live…an expression of the Leo empowerment and love. This is an important gland to keep opened and balanced. One method is to tap on your thymus several times which activates it, this is known as the thymus thump. As you keep your thymus opened and balanced you may find improvements in these areas of your life.

Your 3rd dimensional body has been changing and evolving through each continuing planetary line-up…pressuring you to feel the relentless habits you develop to remain lonely, unfulfilled and discouraged…all masked of course with false bravado expressed loudly without real knowledge or meaning…but it sounds good even if confused and scattered.

Everything that requires self-expression is supported by this dynamic lunation. Every event that allows for personal ego satisfaction through impulsive involvement brings courage and confidence…you did it. You said it…you danced the dance of social interaction and accepted the lesson of ego-evolution. Leo energy is the channel for power…never the power itself.

Leo energy supports artistic productions on stage, film and group leadership. Today’s energy can give you the extra concentration to go along with getting a creative project completed or at least the outline for connection and negotiating with others of your skill and motivation. Make the most of this New Moon by either finishing creative project from before or tackling a new production in the performing arts.

Mars in the late degrees of Gemini gives great desire for information, news and gossip. With so much energy directed towards constant communication and keeping focused on one thing is challenging. Intellectual stimulation is more important than the commitment to any one activity. This can lead to overwhelm and burn-out…remember to love yourself, respect the needs of your body and allow for rest and rejuvenation daily.

The Shadow of Mercury Retrograde Persists: How Best to Use this Time

Today features another guest blog post by the lovely and wise Electra Jung. Most people know about “Mercury Retrograde,” but not everyone knows about its “shadow period.” Sounds ominous, right? Well, it need not feel that way. As Electra explains, the Shadow of Mercury Retrograde fosters continued inner evaluation, review and healing.

In many ways it’s fitting that the first phase of Ocean’s 11:11 occurs on May 1, still under Mercury’s shadow. This initial event works with this energy, looking to salve deep, unhealed wounds and especially exploring how our outer world reflects our own inner climate. Please feel free to join us if you’d like to participate, or you can do so privately with your own very personal ceremonies, meditations and acknowledgment.

Whether you intend to participate in Ocean’s 11:11 or not, Electra’s insights will help you navigate the rest of April and early May. Many blessings and much love! Thanks, as always, to Electra for her keen awareness and easy explanations of tricky concepts:

The month of April requires patience, temperance and calm in order to manage yourself and your emotions through the challenging planetary cycles… cycles which challenge our daily activities and create disruptions of our familiar patterns and interactions with everyone we know.

The Mercury retrograde that began on March 30th will dominate much of the month of April. Mercury will station direct on April 23 and remain in its “shadow’ until returning to the degree of its retrograde May 12.

This will make the month of April slow-going and frustrating for those accustomed to moving into spring with a bang and getting ideas and plans moving ahead. It is time to ask ourselves what is most important to get done. And we’re learning to BE — fully present — when we do.

“… the only time you ever have in which to learn anything or see anything or feel anything, or express any feeling or emotion, or respond to an event, or grow, or heal, is this moment, because this is the only moment any of us ever gets. You’re only here now; you’re only alive in this moment.”

— Jon Kabat-Zinn

Even as Mercury returned to direct motion…it was in hard aspect to the relentless testing of restrictive Saturn. Mercury opposed to Saturn is another indication of set-back and delay. The intention here is to get yourself, your documents and your life organized before moving forward with any kind of coherence! The more prepared you become… the more informed and confidence you become.

During the “shadow” phase of Mercury we are catching up with all the weak links in our plans, our lives. Until May 11/12 we have time to move slowly forward as Mercury re-covers its lots ground during the retrograde cycle. This natural cycle also give us the time to re-emerge more balanced, capable and self-aware. These previous three weeks have shown where our thinking and speaking have caused havoc in personal and professional relationships.

Moreover, it is well-known among mundane astrologers that the days and weeks prior to and after the vernal equinox in the northern hemisphere, that some people have a hard time adjusting to the shift of seasons and the equalization of the Earth’s tilt.

Acts of frustration, impulse and haste work in combination with the Aries stellium of transits. Some of the planets, like Mars, head towards an opposition to Saturn in Libra by the third week of April – compounding the impulsive and aggressiveness in the air, and at times, leading to the volatile inclinations associated with Aries.

Value the month of April to mid-May to rest, re-view and re-connect with yourself. Be consistent with your spiritual practices and remain aware that every moment of every day offers you the chance to re-discover the beauty of living alongside with natural cycles!
