Synchronicity, Reiki and Finding the Right Reiki Master Teacher

I’ve had many students tell me that finding the right Reiki Master Teacher felt like “completing a lifelong quest.” Some had felt simultaneously led to and resistant to Reiki for decades. Some sensed they’d never maximized their previous training, yet they still felt drawn to move onto the next level. Others felt they’d grown so much since their initial training that they wanted to retake levels with a different Reiki Master Teacher who resonates with who they are now. Still others had completed Reiki Master training, but didn’t know how to teach. When asking their earlier RMT to train them as a teacher, they found the person had either retired or refused to train them a “competing” teacher.

Reasons for seeking the right Reiki Master Teacher vary widely. Joy at finding the right Reiki Master Teacher seems both magical and standard. “It felt like the Universe just clicked into place.” “When the student is ready the teacher appears.” “When I saw YOU post that class, I just knew I had to be in it.”

Synchronicity often plays a mischievous role. Back in 2003, in very windy Santa Fe, I tried to hang a Reiki Level 1 flyer on the bulletin board outside a spiritual bookstore. I kept trying and trying to hang this paper, but the wind caught it every time, finally blowing it fast and furiously down a railroad track. Not wanting to litter, I chased the paper for an eighth of a mile or so before I eventually gave up. In our next class, a student described how she had left her dance class and felt an urge to walk along the railroad tracks. As she prayed for guidance about her “next step,” my Reiki Level 1 flyer flew into her face. Talk about “in your face messages!” She immediately registered for the class and continued her training to the point of teaching her own Reiki students.

In October 2011’s Reiki Master Teacher Certification Class, I had many students from Madison and nearby towns as well as one who drove in all the way from Woodstock, NY! This month’s Reiki Master Teacher Certification Class has students from Chicago and New Jersey arriving for the event. In all the many (many!) places I’ve lived, I’ve found that people often feel called to travel to find a Reiki Master Teacher who resonates with them. I’ve taught students from NYC in Sedona; Monterey students in San Luis Obispo; Virginia and Santa Monica students in Chicago; and Reno students in Sonoma County.

This criss-crossing of the country and synergy among different students and locales seems like a synchronous part of the Reiki process. If you feel called to begin (or complete) your Reiki training beyond your city or town, please know that’s perfectly normal. Sometimes you luck into having just the right relationship with a local teacher, but sometimes the journey itself becomes part of the process. Universal Life Force Energy always knows where and how to flow.

As always, taking any level of Reiki Certification with me (Laura Bruno) entitles former students to audit (for free, space permitting) any additional Reiki Certification Classes up to and including the level to which I’ve certified them. Many of my students –especially Master Teacher students — embrace this opportunity as repetition builds confidence. People also notice subtleties they may have missed in their initial concern with learning new information. I tailor each class to the day’s participants, which means I may use different metaphors to explain tricky concepts, or may share different stories to illustrate points. I find that the students themselves create a unique synergy in each class, and they often keep in touch with each other long after their Reiki certification.

Reiki and 2012

Wow, the energies on Earth have really amped up since Fall 2011! So many Reiki Level 2 Practitioners keep getting the nudge to complete their training and share Reiki with their own students. I used to offer RMT trainings only twice per year; however, I also am feeling a strong pull to help raise the collective vibration of this planet, especially in early 2012. Teaching teachers and empowering Lightworkers both carry potential for exponential ripple effects. I love it! The more people stepping into their own power and radiating healing, loving, universal life force energy, the faster and more thoroughly we can all collectively shift into the glorious new world that already awaits.

Thank you to all the people assisting this shift through your own personal transformations: as within, so without. Thank you to everyone finding courage to let your most radiant, clear, loving Self shine through to inspire others. Thank you to everyone imagining a freer, kinder, gentler world: as above, so below. And thank you to everyone for being right here, right now, at this very special time. I love you!

Madison Reiki Master Teacher Training Postponed Until 1/29/12

At this point, there are still a few spots available in the class, so that’s good news for anyone who couldn’t make it on the 21st. More Reiki Questions Answered

Two people recently asked me variation of questions that I get asked a lot regarding Reiki. Since I didn’t include them in my original list of Reiki Master Teacher FAQ’s, I thought I’d mention them here:

I have had success in channeling healing energy but also seem to take on forms of the illnesses I work on. This makes me hesitant to finish my next level of training.

Reiki should not work “backwards,” in the sense of it causing you to pick up other people’s symptoms. People can be empathic; however, that is not a Reiki process since Reiki flows only one way — through your crown and out your hands and/or eyes, including third eye. There is no ebb tide to Reiki, so getting the next level of training would not cause you to take on others’ symptoms. If you continue to do so, it is not due to the Reiki.

In fact, purely offering Reiki without trying to control it in any way is one of the easiest ways to ensure you do not receive a blow back from clients or others. I have always been highly empathic, even with people thousands of miles away, and even if I do not “know” they have any kind of health challenge happening at the moment. I find that whenever I remember to offer Reiki to someone whose symptoms “bleed through” my reality, those empathic symptoms minimize or disappear. Rather than inviting symptoms or illness from others, Reiki in its purest form works as a protection from empathic challenges.

I’ve also had feedback from many Reiki Level 1 students who noticed immediate improvement or cessation of feeling drained from offering energy work to others. These included people who would feel sick or “off” for weeks after visiting someone in the hospital. After learning to allow Reiki to flow through them and realizing they did not need to put so much effort into the energy work, they found that they no longer needed recovery time after a hospital visit. Instead, they felt “juiced.” This is probably the most common improvement my students notice after Reiki classes, because so many of my students tend to be natural empaths.

(Other methods of minimizing empathic symptoms include cord cutting, asking the angels for protection, assessing your own tendency to project or reflect, and using aura strengthening exercises through meditation and visualization.)

Reiki makes me tired. The day after my first (and only) Reiki experience I nearly fell asleep at work. I am a very tired person already so I cannot afford added fatigue.

Reiki allows your body to heal itself, so if you are needing rest, then it will manifest as “making you tired.” It is a technique to get your body into a relaxed enough state to do all the healing on all the levels. Depending on how much deep healing needs to occur, Reiki can feel tiring, just like a massage may make someone want to fall asleep. The Reiki is still providing energy, though. It’s just that sometimes deeper healing requires total rest in order to take place. I suspect if you continue on a healing path, you will eventually find Reiki a highly energizing experience.

Accelerated Reiki Level 1 and 2 Certification Class in Madison, WI: Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Pre-registration required because space is limited, and there will be recommended reading and handouts ahead of time. Reiki is an ancient healing method rediscovered in the 19th century by the Japanese monk Dr. Mikao Usui. It offers an easy, non-draining way to provide hands on or distant healing through energy exchange and profound relaxation, allowing the recipient’s body, mind, soul and spirit to access their own deepest healing. I became a Reiki Master Teacher in March 2002 and have been certifying practitioners and Reiki Master Teachers ever since.

Students will learn and/or receive:
• History, nature, and science of Reiki.
• Reiki Level 1 & 2 Attunements.
