Action Alert: Another Health Freedom Power Grab

Thanks for the heads up, Anthony! We’ve got a major attack happening right now on Indiana Health Freedom. If any readers live in Indiana, please do take the time to call your legislators (details below).

I thought I left this problem behind when I left Wisconsin, as the Dietetics Lobby there was continually trying to monopolize and criminalize anyone besides Dietitians even mentioning nutrition, food and food-related lifestyle issues. Even Nutritionists, who have more extensive training than RD’s, would not be allowed to practice Nutrition until they received training and certification for the lesser degree of Dietitian. Alas, it’s a national problem, and Indiana is the latest power grab state. Please take a moment on February 20 or 21st to call your legislators, or to make any Indiana residents you know aware of the imminent threat to their health freedom. This legislation is potentially far-reaching, as once passed in one state, they will then have precedent and model for other states. Please spread the word far and wide. Reiki and prayers appreciated, too!

Dear NPA Midwest Members and Residents of Indiana,

We received this very urgent email from the CBNS earlier this morning. It is imperative that we unite and move immediately to kill this bill and protect your right to do business. Please read the information below:

Dear Supporters of Nutrition Freedom,

We are emailing to ask you to activate your networks of Indiana practitioners, retailers, supplement companies, family, friends, students clients, etc. to make calls to their Representatives in the Indiana House today 2/20 and tomorrow 2/21. HB 1272 is a law pushed heavily by the Dietetics lobby in it’s ongoing effort to monopolize the nutrition field. This law began as a law that would criminalize all nutrition advice that didn’t come from RD’s. And, in the worst bill we’ve ever seen, the RD’s expanded their scope of practice to include things like meal preparation or any intervention designed to improve someone’s nutrition-related behavior, or reduce health risks.

We pushed back heavily on that, and an amendment to take out criminalization for non-RD’s was added and passed. However, dietitians are still fighting to control the market for nutrition care that is covered by insurance, which everyone expects to expand. They want laws that by licensing them alone, in effect will preclude more qualified Nutritionists from having their services eligible for insurance coverage for services that are covered now, and ones that will be covered in the future. That ultimately will create economic harm to consumers if they have to give up insurance reimbursement in order to see the practitioner of their choosing.

It is one more way the Dietetics Associations are trying to dampen competition by funneling consumers to RD’s through economic pressure. There is no justifiable reason for members of only one private trade group to be licensed or certified, any more than there is justification for criminalizing nutrition advice in a country that so desperately needs more of it.

We are urging you to join us in killing this bill which is being heard in the IN House this Thursday morning before 10:30 a.m. Because of the very short time frame we are asking you to make phone calls to your representative (for both home and work districts if different) today 2/20 and tomorrow 2/21. The vote on this will be either Friday 2/22 or Monday 2/25.

Please GO HERE http://test.cna.gotpantheon.com to find HB1272 information, Legislator phone numbers, Talking Points, and a link to find your legislator if you don’t know who that is.

Ethan E. Huff – NaturalNews – Congress Votes Down Senator Durbin’s Anti-Supplement Amendment, As Well As Senator Paul’s Freedom Of Health Speech Amendment – 26 May 2012

As regular readers of this blog know, I am a huge advocate for freedom in general, and especially for health freedom. This article from Natural News shows clearly why the solution to the problem needs to transcend the level of the problem, as you’ll notice that many of the champions for freedom from tyranny in other areas are the very people supporting destruction of all access to supplements, as well as the insane FDA armed raids on peaceful Amish farmers selling … ooooo, dangerous contraband … raw milk. However you feel about dairy vs. non-dairy for ethical reasons, the methods and bizarre claims of the FDA fly in the face of both freedom and science.

(I just made a Freudian typo there … calling the FDA’s tactics “greedom.” Um, yeah. Bribed much?)

Nonetheless, as long as we have some semblance of a system in which “elected” officials occasionally listen to their constituents, here’s how your Senators stood up for or cast aside your health rights. Some of them likely remain terribly misinformed by lobbyists, as I found when I spoke to my own state representatives regarding the illegality of raw milk in Wisconsin. Most of the officials against raw milk truly believed BigAg lobbyist claims of raw milk being dangerous, when, in fact, the factory farmed, antibiotic-laden, over-milked, over-crowded, rBGH filled cows are the ones whose milk needs pasteurization in order to avoid toxic bacteria. Our entire food system needs an overhaul in this country, going more local, more organic, more vegetarian and vegan, higher raw foods, etc. Unfortunately, those people voting against health freedom at best know less than informed consumers know, or at worst, have strong Codex Alimentarius and Agenda 21 leanings aimed to support BigPharma by destroying health and family farms.

Learning how your Senators vote and then taking some time to educate them may have some effect. I’m encouraged that at least some of the people I’ve met in government do seem to care about citizens, so I feel a multi-tiered approach of visualization, reclaiming control over my own food, and educating elected officials is worth a little of my time and attention. I’m posting the article below for those who would also like to support multi-tiered efforts towards freedom of all types, including health:

(NaturalNews via Lucas)

A sneaky, eleventh-hour attempt by Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) to essentially shut down the supplement industry alongside an amendment pertaining to prescription drug user fees has failed. In a vote of 77-20, the U.S. Senate voted to table Amendment No. 2127, which would have created “duplicative, unnecessary, and unexpected new regulations” for the supplement industry that could have resulted in many common supplements being pulled from store shelves.

To the surprise of the entire natural health community, the unveiling of Amdt. No 2127 came late Tuesday afternoon, according to the Natural Products Insider (NPI), just one day before the bill to which it was attached, S. 3187, the Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act, was set for a vote. But because the natural health community immediately sprung into action to oppose Amdt. No 2127, it was successfully defeated.

“(Amdt. No 2127 is) based on the misguided presumption that the current regulatory framework for dietary supplements is flawed and that the FDA lacks authority to regulate these products,” said Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Ut.) on the Senate Floor, in opposition to the amendment. He added that the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA) already provisions the FDA with the tools it needs to properly regulate supplements, and that Amdt. No 2127 only “serves to punish all responsible companies with its overreaching mandates.”

Amdt. No 2127 would have unnecessarily required all manufacturers of dietary supplements to register them with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) within 30 days, even though Title II of the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 already requires registration. This 30-day requirement, in other words, was designed to be impossible for supplement companies to comply with, which would have resulted in many of them simply being pulled from the market.

According to the U.S. Senate’s Legislation & Records voting page (http://www.senate.gov), the 20 U.S. Senators that voted against tabling this heinous attack on the supplement industry were:

Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.)
Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Cal.)
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Cal.)
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.)
Sen. Benjamin Cardin (D-Md.)
Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.)

Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.)
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.)
Sen. Bernard “Bernie” Sanders (I-Vt.)
Sen. John “Jay” Rockefeller (D-W.V.)

Senate also votes down Sen. Rand’s amendment to reign in FDA, restore freedom of health speech

While it is great news that the Senate was smart enough to reject Sen. Durbin’s flagrant assault on the supplement industry, this same Senate voted to reject an amendment proposed by Sen. Rand Paul that would have stopped the FDA from bullying farmers and abusing its power. It also would have restored freedom of health speech by stopping the FDA from censoring the truthful health claims of dietary supplements.

You can read Sen. Paul’s press release announcement about his amendment here:

Codex Alimentarius: Why it Matters to Everyone & What You Can Do

If you care at all about what’s happening with food regulations around the world, please watch these videos. They are targeted to the US but have implications for the entire world. Lest you think that Dr. Rima is overreacting or exaggerating, FYI, peppermint is now illegal in the European Union. Yes, peppermint! Any food or herb that can be said to treat any “serious” condition, including peppermint, rosemary and anything else they decide, will become illegal.

Not only will you not be able to buy these things as supplements, but it will become illegal even to grow them. Like garlic in your cooking? Garlic lowers cholesterol and fights infections. It will likely be on the illegal list. Like medicinal mushrooms? Uh-uh. I have been very suspicious of attempts to have “health freedom” by labeling supplements with what they “cure” or “help” with. I’ve seen this as a BigPharma Trojan Horse. By getting more and more supplements, herbs and foods documented as healing items, BigPharma and the WTO are just setting the stage to take them away as “dangerous substances that need regulation.”

Some people say, “Who cares if they’re illegal? I’ll just grow my own.” Hey, so will I, but here’s the problem with that: if laws are on the books to be implemented, then the FDA and other organizations can raid your home or garden, by force, with M16s and take your plants away. They can legally incarcerate you for breaking the law. They can legally prevent you from treating cancer, even with your own organic foods and plants. They can legally force you to starve or eat genetically modified, pesticide-saturated Frankenfoods that will CAUSE the cancers with toxic pharmaceuticals as the only legal treatment.

Think of the people killed for growing marijuana illegally in Humboldt County, CA, and know that if your country becomes Codex Alimentarius compliant, then the same scenario could apply to growing something as innocuous as Italian seasoning. Ridiculous does not mean it won’t pass! Congress has several bills in the works now, and they are all designed to take away laws protecting consumer choice. Please let your legislators know where you stand.

In these videos, Dr. Rima explains the difference between Common Law and Napoleonic Code Law. Under Common Law, if something is not prohibited, then it’s permitted. Under Napoleonic Code Law, if something is not expressly permitted, then it is forbidden. In the US we still have Common Law for most foods and herbs. We still have choice. The EU is already shifting into Napoleonic Code Law with regard to herbs and supplements. Folks, this is already happening! But it’s not too late (quite yet) to prevent it from going any further. Please support people like Dr. Rima Laiboux and ANH who are actively fighting for rights most people don’t even realize they still have. Ya don’t know whatcha got until it’s gone. Trust me on this one: if there was ever something worth chiming in on, this is one you’ll wish you did.

Codex Alimentarius is already on the books, but there is still time to keep it from ruining our entire food chain. Once a country becomes “compliant,” they cannot get out of this contract; however, if local, state or national laws offer protections, then these can continue to keep Codex Alimentarius out of our lives. “The more people who are in ‘Codex Coma,’ the less trouble they have getting this through.” This is a BigPharma design to make everyone so sick through preventable nutritional deficiencies that they require massive amounts of toxic pharmaceuticals to “keep them alive.” The organizers of Codex, by their own calculations, estimate 3 billion deaths due to the implementation of these “guidelines.” THIS is why I keep beating the food sovereignty drum. Please educate your legislators. These videos will tell you how:

As my regular blog readers know, I am also a huge fan of visualization and meditation. If we get caught up in feeling like victims and like we are fighting a system, then we just attract more of what we don’t want. In raising awareness about these issues, please also keep a focus on that which we DO want: health freedom, food sovereignty, the ability to choose natural remedies, the ability to enjoy nature in its natural state, and a return to balance on this insane planet. Eventually, I know Nature will win; in the long haul, Nature always does win. Humans are not required for Nature to win, though. In order to survive and certainly in order to thrive, humans will need to get more, not less in touch with Mother Earth and all the healing she has to offer. I wish each and every one of you blessed healing, awakening and peace.

Thanks for caring about yourselves and others!
