News Alert ~ Polish Farmers Arrested Defending Farmland

I received this newsletter today from Sir Julian Rose and his partner Jadwiga Lopata. Things are really heating up in Poland! The first country to successfully ban GMO’s, Poland has been on corporate ag’s dirt list for many years now, with aggressively punitive regulation and betrayal of local, organic farmers. The newsletter below details the latest events, including the draconian arrest of peacefully protesting farmers blocking the sale of Polish farmland to foreign speculators and corporations instead of young Polish farmers.

If the Polish government is so concerned about foreign interests, then they shouldn’t mind a bunch of outraged emails from the international scene. Why does this matter to you, even if you don’t live in Poland? With the TPP “free” trade agreement looming for an intended fast track through Congress, the TTIP “free” trade treaty connecting Europe and North America — both giant gifts to Big Ag and Big Pharma — organic, local food has never been more threatened in more places. This bullying of Polish farmers no doubt means to send a message across the globe: “Resistance is futile. The corporations will swallow you whole and spit you out in pieces.”

Well, not on my watch, and hopefully not on yours either. If you value your right to eat real food, to support real farmers and a local economy, ironically, supporting the small, local, organic farmers in Poland might be one of the more important things you do for your own city and your own plate. Thanks and blessings to anyone who takes action on this.

News Alert – Polish Farmers Arrested Defending Farmland

URGENT! The Polish farmers are calling for other farming and consumer groups in Europe and beyond to show solidarity with their actions. As one farmer said “To day we are arrested – tomorrow you could be.”
Please do send letters of support!

On 6th October 2015 the police arrested 11 farmers from Pyrzyce (Western Pomerania Province) where 60% of farmland has already been sold off to foreign buyers. The arrested farmers are accused of participating in an organized group whose aim is to prevent the actioning of tenders for the sale of Polish farmland by WRSP (land owned by the state). The farmers were arrested on their own farms and handcuffed with their families watching.

The prosecutor stated that “they will all have to answer for impeding the tenders for the sale of land… The farmers are blocking a dozen tenders connected with the foreign sale of farming estates worth at least 6 million zloty.”

The arrested farmers had actively participated in protests in Szczecin and the surrounding region as well as Warsaw, their aim is to introduce changes into the law applicable to farmland management and to put a stop to Polish land sale transactions to speculative foreigners and corporations.

“These changes would stop the out-of-control and reckless sale of Polish farmland which is causing economic and social degradation of the countryside and the building of colonial relations in these territories…” – said Edward Kosmal – the leader of the KPRWZ (Western Pomerania Farmers Protesting Committee).

Two days after the farmers were arrested (8th October) five of them were sentenced to two months of provisional detention. Others were released on bail with the financial guarantees of 30 to 60 thousand zloty. The farmers could be sentenced to five years imprisonment.

“Is this an attempt to intimidate other farmers participating in protests? A revenge for fighting with companies with foreign capital that want to buy-up Polish farmland? – asked Sir Julian Rose, the President of ICPPC.

“The farmers blocked tenders connected with the sale of Polish farmland in which foreign companies participated (for example, Danish companies and their agents). They also sowed the land which was supposed to be grabbed by foreign capital with their own grains and kept watch on the area, thus blocking other entities from entering. Their protest is against the sale of Polish land into foreign hands instead of to aspiring young Polish farmers.” – commented Jadwiga Lopata, vice president of ICPPC.

The farmers from the Western Pomerania Province are outraged and are demanding that the arrested farmers should immediately be released from custody. They have announced a large scale protest in front of the Prosecutor’s Office in Szczecin on Monday (12th October). 100 tractors will participate in this action.
International Coalition to Protect the Polish Countryside-ICPPC is fully supporting the farmers’ actions!

This includes TTIP attempts to prevent the sovereign protection of internal food chains.

Please do send letters of support to the farmers – through us – and we will forward them to the Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopasz and other ministers as well as to the prosecutor. [Here is Jadwiga’s email: jadwiga @ icppc.pl Please remove the spaces before sending your letter. Thank you!]

Ghandi on Vaccines ~ “One of the Most Fatal Delusions of Our Times”

I had no idea Ghandi had written and published an entire book about the business of vaccines, the manipulations of how the medical industry gets people to take them, and the importance of taking a stand, even if you’re the only one, against mandatory vaccination. Always a visionary, he wrote this book almost a hundred years ago!

ghandi-vaccines-460x244

Here’s a link to the entire text of Ghandi’s “A Guide to Health,” translated from Hindi, along with some key quotes and thematic outline.

“After investigating the quote you’ll find that it just scratches the surface of Gandhi’s ideas about the dangers, inefficacy, and malfeasance associated with vaccines and the history of virology. Gandi was one of history’s greatest revolutionaries, and was extremely sensitive to the methods and strategies of control in America and the western world. He realized that the United States medical industry was pushing smallpox and plague vaccination on Indians with only detrimental effects.” ~ from http://endalldisease.com

In researching this post, I also came across an article discussing Ghandi’s most oft-cited “You must be the change you wish to see in the world,” and I found the subtleties of the actual quote worth exploring, especially in context of medical fascism related to mandatory vaccines. I would also include GMO’s, the DARK act, Codex Alimentarius, TPP, TTIP, and geo-engineering in that same category. The following comes from a NY Times Op-Ed submitted by Brian Morton:

“The closest verifiable remark we have from Gandhi is this: ‘If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. … We need not wait to see what others do.'”

… Please click through to the above linked article for Brian’s excellent insights. Due to the TPP now being an actual agreement (as of 10/6/2015) that apparently prohibits even quoting a previously always copyright-free news headline or title, I’ll quote Ghandi, but I’m not quoting anything else from the New York Times here. It’s worth a read, though.

Continued courage, blessings and thanks to those taking a stand for individual’s right to control and to own our own bodies. I find it interesting that both Ghandi and Vandana Shiva are such outspoken critics of the top-down manipulation of the sacred body and the sacred seed. Some things are sacred. The seed. The Elements — Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit. The Land. The Soul. My body is my temple. I do not consent to desecration. Do you?

…lies somewhere between this:

The United Nations 2030 Agenda decoded: It’s a blueprint for the global enslavement of humanity under the boot of corporate masters

by Mike Adams …
And this:

Yes, pun intended. Truth upon lies upon truth upon lies — a mise en abyme. Yes, I agree with Mike Adams (except his comment that only male energy can save us — imho, we need a return of the Sacred Masculine, as well as the Empowered Feminine. We’ve got plenty of patriarchal BS, thank you very little, but we need the Male Principle to get back in touch with the sacred, and we need women to become empowered in ways beyond putting on a pantsuit and out-aggressing all the men. We also need to recognize that masculine and feminine energies are bigger than sex or gender, and that we each have some masculine and some feminine begging for expression. The manner of expression also makes a difference in terms of empowerment, compassion and effectiveness).

David and I listened to Mark Bittman’s talk last night, and I found myself agreeing with him in a lot of spots, but then pausing the video and interjecting a lot of “yeah, but’s,” mostly me adding a permaculture approach to food, which implements sustainability by creating closed systems and stacked functions. Permaculture works with Nature, not in spite of or by completely controlling Nature, including Human Nature. It’s permanent culture, but also permanent agriculture, and true permaculture puts people back in touch with the living planet and all Her beings in ways that corporate and globalist controlled “sustainability mandates” have no intention or possibility of generating. You don’t improve human-planetary relations by completely isolating people from Nature!

I also cringed when Mark Bittman made a huge point that he’s not saying to eat organic food, “just eat more veggies.” Ummmmmmm, when environmentalists start plugging for GMO’s and negating that pesticides, herbicides and the patenting of life have any impact on the environment, it takes a great deal of discipline for me not to say:

talk to the hand 'cause the face ain't listening

On the other hand –yep, I feel quite punny all of a sudden — clearly, we cannot continue down the current path. When will “environmentalists” start calling out geo-engineering as one of the worst impacts on the environment? When will sustainability “experts” start recognizing permaculture, organic home gardens, off grid living, and on-site recycling of manure (including humanure) as the way forward instead of the things to be destroyed via global regulations? When will humanity change because saving our planet is the right thing to do rather than needing a natural (or military-industrial designed) disaster or excessive taxation to coerce change?

I think I offended a friend the other day while discussing politics — something I rarely do, because my views are both radically right and radically left, so far afield that I’m guaranteed to offend someone with pretty much every comment. Basically, I said, I’m a compassionate anarchist, but I do recognize that the current system and the current iteration of humanity are so broken and dysfunctional that barring some kind of divine intervention or Act of (Earth) Goddess, I can see why it will likely take the route of a global crackdown on individual rights. “We live in a culture filled with babies and narcissists. Until the babies learn how much power they have and take responsibility for that power and the choices involved in wielding that power, the babies will always fall prey to the narcissists.”

By way of explaining why I would not attend a local political function this week, I emailed my friend: “I really don’t do well with politics. I am way too radical for pretty much everyone, but if I befriend them, empower them, help them get in touch with their inner guidance, then they do tend to have breakthroughs and find creative ways to work around the BS. It just takes a long time of underground, behind the scenes, friendly ‘work’ on my end. If I just try to explain stuff to people without first raising consciousness and empowerment, then I come across as rude, or I leave with smoke coming out of my ears. 🙂

“At least I know this about myself, and my way does get results — just not in any kind of normal way!

“Have fun, though. Glad you can keep your sense of amusement with these things. When I witness political speeches, it makes me momentarily give up on humanity ever making it beyond this or the next generation. Best for me just to garden and secretly throw pixie dust and Reiki.”

And so I conclude where I began … the truth of the matter lies somewhere between the Mike Adams “translation” of Agenda 2030 and the urgency of change and potential strategies expressed by Mark Bittman. It might be time to paint another portal door, though. Magic and Mama Earth are quite the wild cards!

Stirring the Hornets’ Nest

Well, good thing I have a good relationship with all things bee, wasp and hornet, because I’ve gone and done it. The hornet’s nest has officially been stirred. Our local co-op’s under new management and undergoing some, shall we say, “growing pains.” More like a complete identity crisis! After being texted by someone who shall remain anonymous, I had to see this to believe it: shelf stable, non-organic meat sausage filled with GMO corn syrup and MSG, proudly on display right next to organic raw vegan treats, almost looking like they are the same genre and standard.

Oh, that Fire Faery. She does have a wee bit of a fiery temper, now, doesn’t she? Well, apparently, I’m not the only one with jaw dropping recognition that one of these things is not like the others, but I am so far the only person willing to go on record about it. I left the following note, sent out a text and email blitz to people I know who might care to –ahem — speak the heck up, and then I sent a note to the President of the Board.

There’s a lot of opportunity these days to force people and institutions off the fence. You vote with your words, with your money, and with how you respond to non-organic, GMO and MSG filled BS. A bunch of us have been keeping our eye on this place, murmuring behind the scenes and attempting to extend the benefit of the doubt. Gosh, MCM, if you wanted to be added to my growing list of places needing Reiki Healing Attunements in Goshen, you could have just asked! Oh, I guess you just did….

MCM outrageAnd to our Board President:

Dear ___

Are you aware that the co-op now has processed, non-organic meat sausage with GMO corn syrup and MSG on display right next to raw organic vegan treats like they are somehow equivalently healthy? I never thought I would need to leave a note like this at the co-op.

What is going on?! If this is the new MCM vision, this town will end up making its own health food co-op, and MCM can feel free to turn itself into a gas station vendor. I don’t care if the “meat” was made in Nappanee. It doesn’t belong in the co-op, let alone prominently displayed as though it’s a featured new health food?! Has Monsanto gotten onto the advisory panel for co-ops, or does someone in ordering just not understand the word, “No”? Who’s making these decisions? I shudder to think if this is just the beginning of MCM’s new vision of itself as a leader in the community!

Sorry for the outrage. I am actually toning it down.
Shaking my head and not the only one doing it …

Laura Bruno

UPDATE: I was told to direct my concerns to the manager, and so I did:

Dear ___
____ suggested I bring this up with you, even though I’ve already left a comment card on the wall at the co-op, also attached here. Please see our exchange below. Also, please know that while I may currently be the only person willing to go on record speaking up about it, some of your staff, many owners and even at least one Board Member (not ___) are so shocked they’re speechless, stunned into only commenting to each other, “WTF,” “disgusting” or “that’s so wrong.” The co-op can’t be all things to all people. If you or the Board want to turn it into a Circle K, then you are going to lose core shoppers who will just band together and re-create a buying club with real commitment to the original co-op ideals. Perhaps a commitment to health doesn’t matter in this new MCM vision, but at the very least, the display is deeply misleading for new shoppers who may not know much about reading labels. It’s so absurd that you may not hear much from people because they just can’t believe their eyes.

If this is how the co-op wishes to transform itself for the 21st century, then I hope the junk food eaters want to spend a lot of money there to replace the core members you’ll lose.
Sincerely,

Laura Bruno
UPDATE 2: Successful resolution to this issue! Personal phone call from the manager. The product was pulled, because it was only accidentally ordered in the first place by a relatively new buyer. Training will occur, and if the product cannot be returned, it will be labeled as containing corn syrup, GMO’s and nitrites so that people who don’t read labels are not confused into purchasing it as a health food. The manager also invited me to become a participant in meetings between the Board, management and co-op Members, and he’s posting a response and action steps on the bulletin board at the store. He did explain they need to broaden their customer base by including a wider range of foods that people are requesting; however, he reiterated his commitment to clearly labeling foods that are local, but conventional and if they contain particularly unhealthy ingredients.

The Organic Effect

Thanks to Kieron for reminding me to post this short, simple and demonstrative video:

ANH-USA ~ Did the Media Just Buckle from Biotech Industry Pressure?

Is the sky blue? Is this a rhetorical question? (Alas, the sky buckled to biotech industry pressure years ago via aluminum chemtrails to go with Monsanto’s patented aluminum resistant seeds, but I digress.) This action alert provides excellent examples of Operation Mockingbird, obvious pandering (but not by Chipotle), and a chance to applaud a company who has taken the bold, sane, customer-approved move of rejecting GMO’s.

ANH-USA ~ Did the Media Just Buckle from Biotech Industry Pressure?

How else to explain the extraordinary, coordinated attack on Chipotle for going GMO-free? Action Alert!

After announcing that Chipotle would make the switch to using exclusively non-GMO ingredients in their food, the restaurant chain was slammed hard by major news media outlets. Here’s a sampling of some of the headlines: “Why Chipotle Mexican Grill Going GMO-Free is Terrible News” (Time); “Chipotle’s GMO Gimmick Is Hard to Swallow” (Washington Post); “Why We Can’t Take Chipotle’s GMO Announcement All That Seriously” (NPR).

We’ve come to expect a complete and utter lack of balanced reporting and journalistic integrity when it comes to some of the issues the natural health community cares about, but this sort of vindictive screed against a company for simply trying to satisfy its customers strikes us as particularly egregious and appalling.

The smear job does have one merit. It brings out into the open what GMO investigators have to deal with every day: constant intimidation and threat. Any scientist who dares take on GMO special interests will be told that his or her career will be ruined, and then ever more intense pressure will follow. Why? Because the biotech and Big Pharma companies involved have huge sums of money at their disposal—money that can make or break university research budgets, and money that is channeled to media advertising, which is keeping traditional media alive.

The most vehement denunciation of Chipotle’s recent decision came from the editorial board of the Washington Post, which wrote, “Thus has a leading food company added its imprimatur to a global propaganda campaign that is not only contrary to the best scientific knowledge but also potentially harmful to vulnerable populations around the world.” Apparently the editorial board feels qualified to decide unilaterally who the “best” scientists are—and this without even considering who is being paid by whom! The Post then laments the fact that “the anti-GMO lobby has scared people, and burritos can be sold by pandering to these fears.”

To learn who is really scared—and for good reason—just speak to the scientists and doctors who dare raise questions about GMO safety. After Dr. Mehmet Oz covered the recent classification of glyphosate—the pesticide associated with many GMO crops—as a probable human carcinogen, a group of doctors sent a letter to Columbia University asking for Dr. Oz’s removal as vice chair of the Department of Surgery at Columbia’s medical school.

Rather than adding anything meaningful to the debate, the major media outlets are sending a clear message to the restaurant industry: “If you follow in Chipotle’s footsteps, we will make an example of you.” It seems clear to us that such a frontal attack by major news outlets must have been instigated by the biotech industry’s PR departments.

Despite the opinions of these media outlets, which are desperately chasing advertising dollars, 93 percent of Americans support labeling GMOs. Companies that respond positively to consumer demand should be applauded, not vilified. In what universe is it “pandering” to provide consumers with what they want?

Momentum is building behind the movement to label foods that contain GMOs. Last week, a federal court denied the Grocery Manufacturers Association’s attempt to block Vermont’s recent GMO labeling law. The law is scheduled to go into effect on July 1, 2016. However, the state’s motion to dismiss the GMA’s case was also denied, so the lawsuit against the legislation will likely continue.

This decision is crucial because it helps advance the Connecticut and Maine labeling laws, whose language Jonathan Emord of Emord & Associates and ANH-USA provided to legislators. After our language was accepted, trigger clauses were added to both bills, requiring four other states (in Connecticut’s case) and five other states (in Maine’s case) to pass similar bills before the legislation goes into effect.

Applauding the decision in Vermont, Emord told ANH-USA that “the United States District Court for Vermont properly applied First Amendment precedent to strike down a summary challenge to Vermont’s GMO labeling law. That decision bodes well for the substantially similar bills in Maine and Connecticut. The efforts of ANH have proven indispensable in bringing to pass this great outcome, which affirms truth in labeling against the advocates of deception.”

Seeing the writing on the wall, the GMA and other special interests are not sitting still. Just one day after the Vermont decision, Big Food— working under the misleading name of the Coalition for Safe and Affordable Food—sent a letter signed by 370 groups urging members to co-sponsor Rep. Pompeo’s (R-KS) “Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act.” As we reported a few weeks ago, this bill would make the labeling of foods containing GMOs voluntary and would supersede mandatory labeling laws at the state level.

With companies like Chipotle going GMO-free and key advancements in states laws requiring the labeling of GMOs, there are reasons to be optimistic. But advocates and activists must send clear messages: one of encouragement to Chipotle for responding to the preferences of consumers, and one of admonishment to media outlets for caving into industry pressure and viciously attacking Chipotle on this issue.

Action Alert! Send a message to Chipotle thanking them for going GMO-free and for responding to the overwhelming desire of consumers to have a choice about the food that they eat.

Please send your message today!
