Off-Grid Food Preservation: Little Faery on the Prairie …

Well, it appears I am beginning to live up to my namesake, Laura Ingalls Wilder, as I continue to find ways of preserving the harvest that don’t involve electricity. Mostly, I’m just tired of listening to the dehydrator run 24-7! I leave it on the porch, but that fan is a loud energy hog. Yes, I could can, but David and I really don’t eat much canned food. We’re still making our way through last year’s salsa, so I’m reluctant to make gallons more of it. We decided that time and again, we just love dehydrated tomatoes from the garden all winter long.

As warnings continue about solar flares, CME’s, terrorist attacks on the power grid, and the general weakness of America’s power grid, I’ve continued to daydream about a life less filled with whirring noises and EMF’s. Enter: my latest round of off-grid food processing that keeps things in their raw, live state:

Sun Oven

After much research, I finally decided to get a Sun Oven rather than hodge-podging one together myself. This one is designed and crafted to withstand 15-20 years of daily use, plus it came with dehydrator trays, a water sterilizer and various pots and pans for all manner of solar cooking. Supposedly, I can even bake homemade sourdough rye bread in here from fermenting guru Sandor Katz’s recipe if I so choose. We don’t usually eat much bread and little to no gluten; however, I’ve read enough of Weston A Price and others indicating that fermented rye bread provides key nutrients and a different profile than wheat or other grains. We shall see. I’ll make it at least once to say I did it — and also because it will go so well with all that sauerkraut I’ve been making!

That's a mighty big "Brussels sprout" on the left, huh? Those seedlings were labeled wrong at Whole Foods, but I'm happy for the mistake. Here are two homegrown cabbages with a new fermenting crock from Lehman's.

These crocks allow storage of kraut for up to six months without refrigeration or spoilage, saving precious fridge space for things that really need it.

After the sauerkraut project and delivery of an additional 4,000 pounds of wood chips for the area behind and on the south side of our landlord’s garage (oh, my, Mini Mount Mulchmore will be a different post), it was time to release my Genie her instructions:

genie sewing machine

Yes, indeed, yesterday I broke out my total 70’s throwback Genie “Singer” sewing machine that I had not used since 1998, in order to make … a Wonder Oven … another off-grid heating or cooling device, depending on how you use it. I posted about Wonder Ovens (sometimes also called Wonder Boxes) here. Megan of myfoodstoragecookbook.com was kind enough to send me a free pattern, and she feels strongly enough about the importance of these little beauties that she will send you one, too, if you request it.

I had some trouble deciphering her instructions, but this video cleared things up. (Note: for some reason, the video has loud music and an initial Star Wars theme, so feel free to mute it. She doesn’t talk; everything’s typed out. That said, the second song is very cheery. 🙂 ) Anyway, once I used my essential seam ripper to undo my initial misunderstanding, I found the sewing part very simple. The video really makes it a lot easier than most of the instructions I’ve seen floating about online.

A couple months ago, I saw a seamstress from South Bend was moving and needed to unload a bunch of fabric. I told her my various intended projects, and she picked out some coordinating cotton patterns and colors in the sizes I needed. I made two Wonder Ovens yesterday, one for me and one for my sister and her boys:

They are easy to sew, but not so easy to stuff. Maybe carded wool would work better than little recycled polystyrene beads? I was concerned about the wool getting stinky, though, so I opted for a Bed, Bath & Beyond extravaganza (read mess). Actually, it got much easier towards the end when David helped me. Judging by his barely controlled giggles when he observed my method, it wasn’t the most efficient. 😉 Nonetheless, I got them filled with a minimum of reprimands at the beads flying all over my floor by covering my comments with Deva Premal chants. That kept the vibe reasonably high for making something intended to nourish and support:

Stuffed and ready for action.

Stuffed and ready for action.

My sis and I are so excited to try these, because they really minimize electricity for cooking. You just heat a crock pot type meal or whatever else you’d like to cook for about 15 minutes and then place the pot inside a towel in the Wonder Oven. It will slow cook just like a crock pot, minus the burning and all those overwhelming smells all day long. In addition, you can use these for transporting potluck items, making dairy or non-dairy yogurt, keeping groceries cold on hot summer days, making dried beans with only 15 minutes of cook time, and even … apparently … to make muffins. I can’t remember the last time I made or ate a muffin, but some people are really jazzed that you can.

Something similar called a WonderBag is transforming the lives of abused women in Africa — giving them income, reducing fuel or wood needs, and encouraging healthier meals. I recently learned that one of the biggest energy drains of the current food system isn’t actually all the horribly long transportation to get food from farm to table — often thousands of miles away from harvest. Surprisingly, food preparation in the home accounts for an even huger ding of energy consumption. Personally, I’d much rather spend my money on garden seeds, soil amendments and supporting people making things for better off-grid living. Who wants to give money to nuclear power plants that get enormous tax breaks and even refunds from the IRS for letting things like Fukushima happen? Not me.

I’ve also got a much cheaper hanging black mesh dehydrator on the way from this place. My friend Sue saw these at the North American Permaculture Convergence, and a bunch of us went in on them locally to get free shipping. It hasn’t arrived yet, so I can’t comment except to say that it has a squirrel proof zipper and collapses for easy soaking or hosing out. Sue’s friend uses this “for everything.” I figure it will at least do a fine job dehydrating greens and herbs and maybe even tomatoes and kale chips. We shall see. In any case, it feels nice not to hear Excalibur rattling its sword fan. I’m sure I’ll still use the Excalibur, king of electric dehydrators for some things and during inclement weather, but I’m very happy to have alternatives.

Michigan Protests Plan To Store Millions Of Gallons Of Nuclear Waste Next To The Great Lakes – 21 May 2014

This one goes in the “What could possibly go wrong?” department, as well as Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity. What? Fukushima wasn’t enough, BP Oil’s “spill” wasn’t enough, so we need to try having nuclear leaks in the Great Lakes?

“’Building a nuclear waste dump less than a mile from one of the largest freshwater sources in the world is a reckless act that should be universally opposed,’ Michigan Rep. Dan Lauwers (R-Brockway Township) said in a statement Monday, as quoted by the Huffington Post. ”

I would like to say I can’t believe this is even in debate, but alas, it’s become the new normal. Please harass lawmakers and/or heal water as you feel led.

RT logo A Canadian proposal that calls for a nuclear waste storage facility less than a mile away from the Great Lakes is coming under heavy fire from Michigan lawmakers and environmental groups, who are now attempting to stop the project.

Under a plan crafted by energy supplier Ontario Power Generation (OPG), the company would construct a “deep geologic repository” (DGR), which would feature waste storage sites more than 2,200 feet underground to store nearly 53 million gallons of both low- and intermediate-level nuclear waste. The location of the proposed site, however – in Kincardine, Ontario, just three-quarters of a mile away from Lake Huron – has drawn criticism from numerous groups who fear potential contamination.

The fact that Lake Huron is connected to all the other Great Lakes via waterways has also drawn concern, since the five bodies of water make up the largest collection of freshwater lakes on the Earth…

Finding Your Own Center

It’s always so interesting to read or watch world or national events “unfold” online and then have a session with someone from that area who usually provides me with very different details and experiences. So far today I’ve spoken with someone in Japan (who initially contacted me right after Fukushima) and another person who just left Kiev and plans to return for awhile to see their lover before returning to their own country. Tomorrow, I speak with a Nevadan who happens to be married to a California farmer who’s well aware of “riparian rights” and the huge implications of “changing regulations.”

I have another friend traveling in Japan and China right now, and Goshen’s got a large Ukranian population — not that I know any of them. Yesterday, I received word that my high school experienced a “three hour lockdown” as someone had called to say armed men entered the school. Police later determined that call to be a hoax, but the students spent three terrified hours with minimal to no information on why they couldn’t go home as usual.

This is a short post, because I don’t have much time today. My point is that wherever dramatic, “newsworthy” things happen, they happen to individuals. No matter what right wing, left wing, ethnic or age group we hear about from alternative or mainstream media, we will never receive the full, true story. How could we when so many people experience the exact same stimuli in different ways? How could we when for every person for whom a policy has helped, we can find many for whom it hasn’t helped?

My own preference, and that of most of the people with whom I speak in sessions, is for peace, freedom, love and respect — for each other, for the environment and for ourselves. No one likes to feel manipulated, and few people realize they’re being manipulated until some distance and recentering allows them to find themselves again. Rather than waiting to recenter after traumatic events, we can make it our own personal practice to recenter every day, every hour, every moment that we feel off balance. We can choose to breathe. We can choose to ask for inspiration to act wisely and calmly and with compassion. We can remove ourselves from situations that become more obvious for throwing us off center. The more we practice this, the less fear we generate, and the more clearly we can walk our own path.

If we live in a world of people centering themselves, we will live in a calmer, more loving, less manipulated world, but we can’t make others’ decisions for them. We can, however, commit to ourselves each day that we will center, breathe and allow that calm presence to radiate from the center of our beings. From that place of inner stillness — even if just for a few moments each day — we can re-member our world and re-create our world in powerful and effective ways.

That’s all I have time to share today, but this post spills over from so many sessions of talking with people in the midst of “danger zones” or “news events” — who are really just talking with me about pretty normal life decisions. Life goes on … and we continue to hold the possibility for influencing the general direction life takes.

Many blessings to you on the journey ….

A Message from the Raven

This came through as a blog comment from “Raven,” whom I know and who has powerful spiritual and shamanic gifts. The message seems important enough to bump up to its own post:

“Laura, I have received a bit of insight related to the bird sightings brought up here and elsewhere. I spoke with raven during a shamanic journey today and asked if he had a message for the people. He said the family of birds is somewhat confused and struggling. They can feel pockets of radiation and many other environmental assaults, and they attempt to avoid it by flying to places where they might not normally be seen. They are also affected by unusual weather modifications, HAARP and similar microwave technologies. This is not surprising at all, but what is a bit of a surprise is that the reason they seem “friendlier” and more engaging with humans now is that they are seeking our partnership and aid. They will befriend anyone who helps them, who cares in some way for Gaia, and who will at least meet them half way, spirit to spirit. They love us and they need our help to better survive while they chart new territories. They believe that by joining spirit forces we all stand a better chance for helping Gaia and ultimately every spirit being. They want to join forces if we are willing and open to do so.

“So, if you are encountering birds in unusual ways, seek their spirit voice, open your heart to them, thank them for being the beautiful spirits they are, express your love and gratitude, and listen to what they have to tell you.”

Medical Intuitive Observations about Fukushima Radiation

This post has been rolling around in my brain for quite sometime, and I’ve now had several requests to write about it, including in the comments section of “Amazing Orgone.” The paragraphs that prompted the questions were:

“… I was inspired to check for the effects of orgone after listening to some dire reports about Fukushima’s effects on all foods grown in the Northern Hemisphere.

“I track radiation via my own internal Geiger counter, and Leuren Moret’s assessments jive with mine. She recommends using a BioMat, following a macrobiotic diet and many of the things I listed in an earlier article about radiation and diet. From a Medical Intuitive perspective, I’ve also noticed that clients and friends who embody and pass along the most positive healing energies are actually thriving on the Fukushima radiation, whereas ones who refuse to share their spiritual and creative gifts are noticeably struggling, oftentimes from illnesses directly associated with radiation poisoning.

“I keep saying, ‘It’s evolve or die time,’ and I’m not kidding. If you have gifts, please pass them on. As with Reiki, whenever you give a treatment, you receive one, too, because of the positive energy that flows through you. Share your gifts with the world, whatever they are. The process of passing along the good vibrations may well save your life. The energies on this planet are shifting so that they will eventually no longer support parasites and vampiric energies. No time like the present to ensure you’re giving and receiving in balanced ways, and if you must, erring on the side of offering more than you demand in return.”

I need to preface the rest of this article by reminding readers that I am not a nuclear expert, not a doctor, not a scientist, and the only Geiger counter I use is the energy reading mechanism that naturally exists within me. Although I have clients and friends literally on every continent of this world, including in Hawaii, Taiwan, Australia and many on the US West Coast, statistically speaking, these people represent only a very tiny slice of the larger population. I also need to note that my clients and friends tend to be much more conscious and aware than the average population. I do, however, also occasionally interact with people who don’t even know what Fukushima is, who have no idea why we’d want to avoid GMO’s or even what they are, who think “energy work” involves an electrician, and who live paycheck to paycheck from jobs that don’t require them to think beyond the immediately pressing details of their lives. The observations I present in this article include those people, as well, but I’ve obviously had greater opportunity for discussion and energy scans of clients and friends.

All of which is to say: take my observations however you will. I offer them here not as a definitive, provable conclusion, but rather in hopes that they may help people to live more fully, generously and healthily in these extremely challenging and exciting times.

Awareness about Fukushima radiation has begun to trickle into public consciousness, despite a near media blackout, quietly raised official levels of “safe” radiation, the turning off of West Coast radiation monitors, and a new Japanese law that criminalizes reporting about Fukushima. In a sudden switch from the typical media silence, the LA Times recently urged its readers to stop eating Pacific seafood. As a result of growing public alarm about dying, tumor-ridden, starved, ill and/or bleeding sea life off the West Coast, as well as individuals recording extremely high radiation levels via their own Geiger counters, local governments and news media, along with some internet articles have all tried to quell public outcry by assuring us that, though they’re “baffled,” and “mystified” by all these “inexplicable” things happening, they can certainly confirm that none of this has anything to do with Fukushima.

Cleverly, they don’t say it has nothing to do with radiation, just “not from Fukushima.” The creepy part is that it may not matter. Does your body care if radiation comes from Japan or from illegal nuclear dumping off the US Coast? Does your body care if radiation leaks out from Japan or from the nuclear reactor or weapons dump closer to home? We’ve had a nuclear waste issue in this country long before 3/11/11. Due to Fukushima concerns — which imho, are quite real — people have also begun to uncover invisible elephants closer to home. Instead of “either/or,” think “both/and.”

Having lived all along the Central and Northern California Coasts, in addition to the Oregon Coast and Seattle, I’ve been well aware of the pockets of cancer, particularly in Marin County, which has the highest breast cancer rates of anywhere in the nation. Marin is gorgeous, and I loved all the misty magic of that area, so I considered moving there until a friend told me to research breast cancer. Sure enough, Marin County has 38% higher breast cancer rates than most of the US. A regular at the various Cafe Gratitude organic raw food restaurants in Northern California, I always felt vaguely alarmed when I’d see a sign by a donation jar for one of their young, high vibe and organic-raw-food-eating staff in San Rafael undergoing breast cancer treatment. As a Medical Intuitive, I know that many factors contribute to cancer, and extensive studies of Marin County have apparently revealed the same thing. No environmental toxin factors were discovered to account for the absurdly high rates of breast cancer. On the other hand, I do recall reading a study that found clusters of breast cancer closer to water there.

I’ve shared Medical Intuitive Observations on Breast Health before, but I mention the Marin County situation because I’ve intuitively monitored it on occasion since 2008 when I began to formulate a wild theory about radiation and health as it relates to one’s connection to place. At that time, I did sense some kind of radioactive waste coming from somewhere, and I still do; however, I also sensed that some people — not me in this instance, but some — could live in that environment without developing cancer, so long as it was the right place for them to be.

I also noted (and I mean this as no offense to anyone living in Marin County) an odd disconnect between level of Consciousness and level of generosity. Psychics, raw foodists, yoga teachers, channelers and self-proclaimed New Age guru’s are a dime a dozen in Marin County, yet despite what you’d expect to be an atmosphere oozing health and joy, I often felt a palpable contraction of ego, competition and sadness in the air whenever I visited. The consumption of high vibe things was off the charts, but the practical offering of those gifts from high vibe living seemed disproportionately lacking. The passage from Luke 12:48 often came to mind: “But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” Update: this verse triggered some people due to its seeming judgment, so I am replacing it with a Gospel of Thomas verse that declares more closely what I was originally attempting to convey:

“If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.”

Until Fukushima happened, these observations and words just kind of floated around in the realm of curiosity and a possibly isolated scenario, but since Fukushima began dumping untold amounts of radiation into the air and ocean, I’ve noticed these factors becoming much more apparent and consistent. Long ago, I received a message that human evolution would be triggered by a nuclear event. I thought maybe a war, but whenever I encounter someone undergoing radiation treatment or exposure to excessive radiation, I always remember that original message. Radiation triggers mutations. It activates and accelerates potentials, both negative and positive. In November 2013, I commented on Jon Rappoport’s (possibly tongue in cheek?) poem, “Fukushima Man,” which profiles “the one schmuck in fifty million who thrives on radiation”:

“Brilliant! And I have been getting that message for about a decade, maybe more, that radiation mutates with a possibility of TRANSmutation. Evolve or die time. I love this poem.

“In all seriousness, do you think that’s why 30 states have recently created police blockades demanding cheek swabs and blood?

“As a Medical Intuitive, I’m noticing these effects very clearly. The clients who are really stepping into their full beings are thriving on this radiation, even if they live on the West Coast. On the other hand, those who continue to resist the shifts they’ve known they need to make are exhibiting many effects of radiation poisoning. It became really noticeable about six months ago and it has definitely stepped up a notch in recent weeks. Thriving vs. thyroid nodules, hair loss, unexplained weight loss, etc. … But the ones who’ve figured out how to use this radiation as juice are supercharged.

“We do have the means of cleaning up Fukushima — through mushrooms, through a dimensional rift, through a massive healing of the waters and realigning with Nature. It IS possible. Whether or not most people do it is another thing entirely…. Much Love and tangible, loving, healing ACTION is what I keep recommending. Those doing it are thriving. Those not? Not so much….

“Brilliant, brilliant poem.”

What’s frustrating for some of the people struggling with radiation symptoms is that by society’s standards, they seem like people already sharing their gifts. Only they — and people like me who can read their energy — know that they present only a fraction of the value they could offer to the world. They wonder how cancer scares, hair loss, thyroid issues, etc. can be happening to them when they “have studied Reiki,” “meditate” and “think positively” … when they try to live such a “high vibe life” and yet other people in their lives who have no interest in spirituality don’t seem to have these sorts of problems.

Again with the Gospel of Thomas verse: “If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.”

When I ask if they’re offering Reiki, teaching it, sharing their insights from meditation, actively generating positive actions from their positive thinking … I get a bunch of excuses for why “that hasn’t happened. Yet. I’m going to do all of that when ____ [indefinitely postponed future external event resolves].” This pattern involves all energy, including money, which is simply one of our most dysfunctional means of circulating energy into our environment. People who handle large volumes of money need to be especially careful right now how that money passes through them. Do they use the energetic gifts at their disposal to transmute blood money from corrupt institutions into energy that promotes good in this world? Do they invest their own money into generous healing and liberating projects for the Earth and/or their community? If not, then handling all that money energy becomes exponentially toxic to their system.

Ditto all the high vibe lifestyles that summon energy into the body, mind and spirit. After that energy arrives, what happens to it? Cancer is incredibly creative energy. If someone summons massive amounts of energy and then refuses the call to create something positive beyond themselves, then that energy pools inside them and creates malignant, rapidly producing cancer cells. “Pay it forward.” The more you receive, the more evolution requires you to give. No, it’s not fair, and no, you can’t fake it. From the outside, someone can look highly generous, but inside themselves they know they’re really not living and giving anywhere near their full potential. [Please also see the follow up post, “Overgiving, Resentment and Breast Cancer,” which explains in detail what I do and do not mean by generosity and bringing forth what is within you.]

This planet has reached crisis stage largely due to the selfish and oblivious actions of humanity. Consciousness can be taught to people with kind, generous hearts, but selfishness and people who consume as much or more than they return are an evolutionary liability. This trait of excessive consumption is a stronger evolutionary filter than what’s consumed. From an evolutionary standpoint, a gas guzzling redneck who offers everything he has to those in need will pass through easier than a New Age dabbler who collects training and certifications but fails to translate those gifts into tangible offerings to Earth or community. The gas guzzler can be given a new car, but the spiritual energy guzzler who refuses to dirty themselves with nitty gritty compassionate action requires much more internal shifting.

Kindness counts, and radiation amplifies the internal effects of whether or not kindness creates positive things outside oneself or whether it ferments, festers and mutates inside. The Universe does not demand everyone quit his or her day job to become a healer; evolution simply asks that people share what they can where they can, now, without excuses. Art counts. Platitudes don’t.

If someone has the consciousness to recognize how deeply this planet and its various species are struggling and still continues to postpone action, then really … what will it take for change?! If pondering the imminent extinction of life as we know it can’t get that person over the ego concerns or fears of vibrant living and giving, then the greater creative wisdom of this planet will not likely view that person’s particular genetic/spiritual mix as an evolutionary combo to carry forward. The Original Instructions for humanity require us to live in balance with Nature and as caretakers. From an evolutionary standpoint, people who recognize those Original Instructions and yet knowingly neglect or refuse to implement them, are part of the problem, not the solution they smugly consider themselves to be.

The other big factor, unrelated to generosity, but equally important in my observation, is how connected people are to place. When someone feels deeply connected to where they live, their energy interacts with the planet at that location, healing and evolving with the Earth. Many people have felt led to move in recent years, sometimes to hot spots — radioactive or otherwise. By tapping into our specific contract with the land, sea and sky, then we reconnect with the larger whole. Radiation becomes simply one of many, many factors, rather than an overwhelmingly detrimental one. As with generosity, though, we can’t fake it. We’re either connected to where we live, or we would be wise to find some way to get wherever we do belong.

Again, that Gospel of Thomas verse applies: “If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.” Those who lack the conscious awareness to know whether or not they belong somewhere or have a higher calling elsewhere won’t feel the effects of misalignment as much as someone who knows better but refuses to act on the message. Those who recognize the need of this planet and its various species, who know that Spirit supports right action and yet refuse to walk in Faith find themselves struggling right now. This is not a time for fence sitting or talking the talk without walking the walk. I strongly recommend finding ways to connect with the land, sea and sky wherever you are and to ask for guidance and support in getting wherever you feel called to go.

What’s the positive in all of this?

I cannot prove any of this, except as I’ve heard from various “talkers” recently that life has taken a sudden turn for the worse. It seems to improve for them as they invest larger parts of themselves in the areas their heart and soul cry out to support. Whenever they pull back those energies they feel called to express, then the symptoms or life circumstances hammer them again. The more energy someone summons, the greater the effect. The more exposure to radiation — from Fukushima or otherwise — the greater the effect.

“Where there is fear, there is power.” People can shift their attitude and response to fear and tap into huge surges of power to move beyond perceived limitations. Visionaries can tap into their local environment and thereby create a positive feedback loop of radiation and creativity. People can use these intense times to hone awareness of preferences or longings that well up deep from the soul. This is not a time for repression; it’s a time of increased awareness and compassion followed by creative action. Magick, art, volunteer work: whatever positive channels of expression feel right will experience extra juice and transmutation the more radiation we find ourselves exposed to.

And if I’m wrong, and all radiation is completely toxic and unavoidable? Well, then we’re all Fuk’d and we might as well live in ways that invite and invoke miracles and a state of Grace.

“There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle.” ~Albert Einstein

“Grace isn’t a little prayer you chant before receiving a meal. It’s a way to live.” ~Jackie Windspear

Lucid Dreaming

The past two months have featured particularly active mornings of lucid dreaming. David’s alarm goes off before 5 a.m. and we snuggle a bit before he gets up for work. Then I drift in and out of a light trance and test, tinker, retest “solutions” to whatever challenges I assign my subconscious mind. On any given day, such challenges range anywhere from “How do we clean up Fukushima?” to “How do we unhinge Monsanto’s stranglehold on seeds?” to “How do I get the bindweed in my garden to go away and where does it go anyway?” to “How do I guarantee permanent passage to the Faery Realm if all hell breaks loose in this dimension?” to “How do I turn last night’s leftovers into something extra yummy for dinner?” to “What’s the nature of reality?”

For years, I’ve used Dreamtime to solve my most pressing personal riddles, but for the past two months, I’ve passed the bulk of those hours on more global questions. [UPDATE: This article link pretty much sums up what I’m attempting to resolve in Dreamtime.]

In no particular order, the following quotes and chants have starring roles in both my Dreamtime and waking hours. They play in background loops of varying speed, as though my brain’s attempting to code crack them in a Rubik’s Cube meets LOST meets Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, like a soundtrack to whatever “plot” I’m dreaming or daydreaming.

As the Hopi say, “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.” One of these mornings that combination lock is bound to bust free and sooner or later, all heaven will break loose. In the event that one of you, dear readers, happens to be humming the missing frequency and wondering why you have this silly melody stuck in your head, I’ll list some the most frequent phrases and chants I hear all day, every day:

“Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo.” (I hear it in a very specific Snatam Kaur chant: Ong, namo guru dev namo, guru dev namo, guru dev … namo.) This Adi Mantra is chanted at the beginning of each kundalini yoga session and translates to “I bow to the Creative Wisdom; I bow to that Divine Teacher inside myself.” This chant plays in the background of most of my recent lucid dreams.

“Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen” This is the transliteration of the Reiki Distant Healing Symbol learned in Reiki Level 2. I usually see it or feel my arms motioning this symbol throughout my dreams. I’ve taught an entire day-long class just on this one symbol, so its meaning extends beyond what I share here. People most often translate it as “The Buddha in me reaches out to the Buddha in you to promote enlightenment and peace,” and/or “No past, no present, no future.” The Reiki Distant Healing Symbols collapses everything into a single point, thus doing away with all perceived separation, whether through time or space.

Gate Gate Paragate Parasamgate Bodhi Svaha (“Gone, gone, gone beyond, gone beyond the beyond — blessings on the journey and the journeyer,” or, alternatively, “GONE, GONE, GONE BEYOND, COMPLETELY GONE BEYOND, ENLIGHTENMENT, HAIL.”) I hear it as sung by Abigail Spinner McBride on “Fire of Creation,” although many people, including Deva Premal have presented their own versions of this chant.

From Dr. Joseph Murphy:

“The first thing to remember is the dual nature of your mind. The subconscious mind is constantly amenable to the power of suggestion; furthermore the subconscious mind has complete control of the functions, conditions, and sensations of your body. Trust the subconscious mind to heal you. It made your body, and it knows all of its processes and functions. It knows much more than your conscious mind about healing and restoring you to perfect balance.”

[“You do not always get the answer overnight.] Keep on turning your request over to your subconcious until the day breaks and the shadows flee away.

From Walt Whitman:

“Every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.”

From the Faery Realm:

“A person’s word is bond.
Respect, Not Control.
No Rudeness!”

“Behold, the silver branch.”

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” (This phrase is accompanied by an awareness of the star shape inside the apple, the silver branch as traditionally an apple branch giving passage to the Faery Realm, Avalon as “The Isle of Apples,” and a quite physical craving for apples!)

“Awen is available.” (Awen is a Welsh word for “poetic inspiration,” somewhat associated with the esoteric meaning on the OS Rune, which I sometimes also see and feel.)

From Dr. Larry Dossey:

(The concept rather than this actual quote from “Space, Time and Healing”):

“Interestingly, the perceptions of passing time that we observe from our external clocks cause our internal clocks to run faster. (Anything that demonstrates periodicity can be viewed as a clock, such as many of our physiological functions.)”

From Lewis Carroll:

“It’s a poor sort of memory that only works backwards.”

“Alice laughed. ‘There’s no use trying,’ she said. ‘One can’t believe impossible things.’

“‘I daresay you haven’t had much practice,’ said the Queen. ‘When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.’”

And then I wake up.

At the risk of making my own website get blocked for posting “malicious content,” as my web security claims when I opened the Friends of the Trees/ INW Permaculture Guild newsletter on my laptop instead of my iPhone, I feel this information and prayer are important enough to share. I don’t know if it’s the Fukushima information that’s objectionable or some other part of the newsletter, but here goes. Michael asked for people to share the prayer, and I believe it’s a powerful one.

A quick note for people who don’t know what a “Deva” is: “The word deva is from the Sanskrit language, meaning ‘a being of brilliant light’ and is used to indicate a non-physical being. …A Deva refers to any of the spiritual forces or beings behind nature.” More info here and here.

Prayers to the Devas of Radioactive Elements
by Michael Pilarski

Within the next two weeks the workers at the Fukushima plant are going to try to remove spent fuel rods that are suspended on damaged racks. They weigh about 400 tons all together and contain radiation equivalent of 14,000 times the amount released by the Hiroshima atomic bomb. This is very dangerous work, not just for the workers, or Japan, but for the entire world. There’s a media blackout about the gravity of the situation (and has been for two years) but right now I believe that prayers are needed more than ever.

The seriousness of it extends far beyond the removal of airborne fuel rods, but this one act of removal is extremely dangerous and could impact all of us within a rather short amount of time. I believe it needs our utmost attention and prayers. I would like to ask that we join together in daily prayers* for the next month focusing on stabilization of the plant, of the fuel rods, of the workers safety and fair working conditions, and for their utmost competence in facing this daunting global responsibility. A request that prayers focus on the world community coming together, encouraging the best nuclear specialists and global engineers to step forward in a unified manner, bringing their expertise and best plans in stabilizing and containing leaks and damage to the plant.

Lastly, may we pray for stabilization for the entire nuclear plant, including the end of radioactivve leaking and contamination of the Waters, and for the renewed health of our Pacific Ocean, and all marine life there.

All thoughts on how to add or build onto this multifaceted prayer for stabilization, safety, and protection — of the plant, workers, families, waters, marine life, and global community.

Amaji has asked us to pray for a successful conculusion of the removal of the fuel rods at Fukushima’s crippled reactor pools. There is a potential for a catastrophic explosion during this process which would cause a huge emission of radioactive elements into the whole world.

Here is one such prayer, which you can add to as you see fit.

Prayer to the Devas of Radioactive Elements

“I pray to the great devas of the radioactive elements, uranium, plutonium and others that they will closely oversee the removal of the Fukushima fuel rods without great release of radioactivity. Furthermore, I pray that they will cloesely oversee Fukushima and all the other nuclear power plants until they can be closed and safely dismantled. I include here all the nuclear weapons on the planet as well. I appreciate the natural role that the radioactive elements play on the Earth. It is humans that have concentrated the radioactive elements for their own ends. May you assume your natural roles and not be allowed to be used for evil purposes or to greatly harm the human race and other species.

I ask my guides to carry this prayer up to the highest levels they can reach and so on until this prayer reaches the ears of the highest devas of the radioactive elements and to the ears of the great deva which overlights all of humanity. I send this prayer also to the ears of the great Overlighting Logos of the planet Earth. Sana Kumara, Gaia, or whatever other names may be used for this great Being that ensouls our planet.

Thank you for hearing our prayers. So be it.”

Of course, we should also be praying to all of the spiritual allies of the human race.

*Perhaps the prayers could begin everyday at 10 a.m. Pacific time, 11:00 Colorado, 12:00 noon Chicago, 1:00 East Coast time. Other suggestions?

Protecting Yourself from Radiation

While researching nascent iodine for protection against radioactivity I came across the following article on protecting yourself from radiation and we should probably all read it closely at this time.

Indigenous Elders and Medicine Peoples Council Statement on Fukushima

Thank you, Ann, for posting this. I have wondered when the Indigenous Elders and Medicine People would start sounding louder alarms about Fukushima. Privately, I’ve been telling friends, “We are at ‘evolve or die’ time.” The first person who taught me Runes had many friends among Native American Elders, and he was fond of their saying, “The Law is the Law.” I hear echoes of that in the Council Statement below about “Original Instructions.” In context of reports of a strange comet-planet, Fukushima, the BP Oil “Spill” and all the other environmental atrocities that have just become everyday life, par for the course, this statement reminds me again of the Blue and Red Star Kachina Prophecies that those who return to the Old Ways and honor the Earth will be spared the cleanse.

Something’s gotta give. Contrary to most people’s comfortable belief: Earth does not require humanity for her own transmutation. May the Shift Hit The Fan. And soon.

Council Statement

This statement reflects the wisdom of the Spiritual People of the Earth, of North and South America, working in unity to restore peace, harmony and balance for our collective future and for all living beings. This statement is written in black and white with a foreign language that is not our own and does not convey the full depth of our concerns.

The Creator created the People of the Earth into the Land at the beginning of
Creation and gave us a way of life. This way of life has been passed down
generation-to-generation since the beginning. We have not honored this way of
life through our own actions and we must live these original instructions in order
to restore universal balance and harmony. We are a part of Creation;
thus, if we break the Laws of Creation, we destroy ourselves.

We, the Original Caretakers of Mother Earth, have no choice but to follow and uphold
the Original Instructions, which sustains the continuity of Life. We recognize our
umbilical connection to Mother Earth and understand that she is the source of life, not a
resource to be exploited. We speak on behalf of all Creation today, to communicate an
urgent message that man has gone too far, placing us in the state of survival. We warned
that one day you would not be able to control what you have created. That day is here.
Not heeding warnings from both Nature and the People of the Earth keeps us on the path
of self destruction. This self destructive path has led to the Fukushima nuclear crisis, Gulf
oil spill, tar sands devastation, pipeline failures, impacts of carbon dioxide emissions and
the destruction of ground water through hydraulic fracking, just to name a few. In
addition, these activities and development continue to cause the deterioration and
destruction of sacred places and sacred waters that are vital for Life.

Powerful technologies are out of control and are threatening the future of all life

The Fukushima nuclear crisis alone is a threat to the future of humanity. Yet, our concern
goes far beyond this single threat. Our concern is with the cumulative and
compounding devastation that is being wrought by the actions of human beings around
the world. It is the combination of resource extraction, genetically modified organisms,
moral failures, pollution, introduction of invasive species and much much more that are
threatening the future of life on Earth. The compounding of bad decisions and their
corresponding actions are extremely short-sighted. They do not consider the future
generations and they do not respect or honor the Creator’s Natural Law. We strongly
urge for the governmental authorities to respond with an open invitation to work and
consult with us to solve the world’s problems, without war. We must stop waging war
against Mother Earth, and ourselves.

We acknowledge that all of these devastating actions originated in human beings who are
living without regard for the Earth as the source of life. They have strayed from the
Original Instructions by casting aside the Creator’s Natural Law. It is now critical for
humanity to acknowledge that we have created a path to self destruction. We must restore
the Original Instructions in our lives to halt this devastation.

The sanctity of the Original Instructions has been violated. As a result, the Spiritual
People of the Earth were called ceremonially to come together at the home of the Sacred
White Buffalo Calf Pipe Bundle. These Spiritual Leaders and those that carry great
responsibility for their people from both North and South America came together with the
sacred fire for four days at the end of September 2013 to fulfill their sacred
responsibilities. During this time it was revealed that the spirit of destruction gained its’
strength by our spiritually disconnected actions. We are all responsible in varying
degrees for calling forth this spirit of destruction, thus we are all bound to begin
restoring what we have damaged by helping one another recover our sacred
responsibility to the Earth. We, the Original Caretakers of Mother Earth, offer our
spiritual insight, wisdom and vision to the global community to help guide the actions
needed to overcome the current threats to all life.

We only have to look at our own bodies to recognize the sacred purpose
of water on Mother Earth. We respect and honor our spiritual relationship
with the lifeblood of Mother Earth. One does not sell or contaminate their
mother’s blood. These capitalistic actions must stop and we must recover
our sacred relationship with the Spirit of Water.

The People of the Earth understand that the Fukushima nuclear crisis continues to
threaten the future of all life. We understand the full implications of this crisis even with
the suppression of information and the filtering of truth by the corporate owned media
and Nation States. We strongly urge the media, corporations and Nation States to
acknowledge and convey the true facts that threaten us, so that the international
community may work together to resolve this crisis, based on the foundation of Truth.
We urge the international community, government of Japan and TEPCO to unify efforts
to stabilize and re-mediate the nuclear threat posed at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear
power plant. To ensure that the Japanese government and TEPCO are supported with
qualified personnel and information, we urge the inclusion of today’s nuclear experts
from around the world to collaborate, advise and provide technical assistance to prevent
further radioactive contamination or worse, a nuclear explosion that may have
apocalyptic consequences.

The foundation for peace will be strengthened by restoring the Original Instructions in ourselves

Prophecies have been shared and sacred instructions were given. We, the People of the
Earth, were instructed that the original wisdom must be shared again when imbalance
and disharmony are upon Mother Earth. In 1994 the sacred white buffalo, the giver of
the sacred pipe, returned to the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota people bringing forth the
sacred message that the winds of change are here. Since that time many more
messengers in the form of white animals have come, telling us to wake up my children. It
is time. So listen for the sacred instruction.

All Life is sacred. We come into Life as sacred beings. When we abuse the
sacredness of Life we affect all Creation.

We urge all Nations and human beings around the world to work with us, the Original
Caretakers of Mother Earth, to restore the Original Instructions and uphold the
Creator’s Natural Law as a foundation for all decision making, from this point forward.
Our collective future as human beings is in our hands, we must address the Fukushima
nuclear crisis and all actions that may violate the Creator’s Natural Law. We have
reached the crossroads of life and the end of our existence. We will avert this potentially
catastrophic nuclear disaster by coming together with good minds and prayer as a global
community of all faiths.

We are the People of the Earth united under the Creator’s Law with a sacred covenant to
protect and a responsibility to extend Life for all future generations. We are expressing
deep concern for our shared future and urge everyone to awaken spiritually. We must
work in unity to help Mother Earth heal so that she can bring back balance and harmony
for all her children.
