Natural News ~ Orthorexia Nervosa –New mental disorder aimed at people who insist on eating a clean diet

The label “orthorexia nervosa” is not brand, spankin’ new, but I do appreciate how Mike Bundrant explains the concept, spin and issues with this “diagnosis.”  Question: if you’re mentally ill for wanting to eat only clean, healthy foods, then what does that make you if you’re so into fresh, organic foods that you grow them yourself with heirloom seeds in your own garden? Oh, right, according to the government, that makes you an agri-terrorist. Because organic, healthy foods and heirloom seeds are much more dangerous than glyphosate, Agent Orange derivatives, pesticides, terminator genes and genetic drift. And people who eat healthy food are much crazier than drone operators who bomb weddings. Glad we got that straightened out!

Orthorexia Nervosa –New mental disorder aimed at people who insist on eating a clean diet

By Mike Bundrant

(NaturalNews) In a world where meaning is malleable, you can twist the truth however you want. You can create a story to make worthwhile endeavors look bad. You can make harmful practices appear attractive.

The mental health system has recently taken a shot at making healthy food choices appear dangerous, if you can imagine, especially when those choices are your top priority.

Clinicians are actively diagnosing patients with orthorexia nervosa, the extreme desire to eat pure food.

This is not a parody. It’s actually happening.

If you have a strong desire to eat pure, uncontaminated food, then you could be suffering from a mental disorder per this new medical labeling trend.

According to the Guardian: Orthorexics commonly have rigid rules around eating. Refusing to touch sugar, salt, caffeine, alcohol, wheat, gluten, yeast, soy, corn and dairy foods is just the start of their diet restrictions. Any foods that have come into contact with pesticides, herbicides or contain artificial additives are also out.

Doctors and mental health professionals are very concerned, of course, as orthorexia nervosa seems to be ‘on the rise.’ Ursula Philpot, chairperson of the British Dietetic Association mental health division, was quoted as follows:

I am definitely seeing significantly more orthorexics than just a few years ago. Other eating disorders focus on quantity of food but orthorexics can be overweight or look normal. They are solely concerned with the quality of the food they put in their bodies, refining and restricting their diets according to their personal understanding of which foods are truly pure.

Philpot further asserts:

Those most susceptible are middle-class, well-educated people who read about food scares in the papers, research them on the internet, and have the time and money to source what they believe to be purer alternatives.

Are you with me? If you are well-educated, like to do your own research and eat only foods that you (all by yourself) determine to be healthy and pure, then it is safe to say that you are at risk for ‘catching’ orthorexia nervosa.

Yes, orthorexia, is something that you can catch like a disease, according to the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA). On the NEDA website, they ask the questions: Why does someone get orthorexia? This positions orthorexia as capable of latching onto you like a cold.

Other authorities position orthorexia as a brain disorder

A 2013 study associated orthorexia with impaired executive functioning (based on self-reporting). This means, according to researchers, that the better you do with cognitive tasks, including planning and decision-making, the less likely you are to have orthorexia.

So, if you’re high functioning and smart, you shouldn’t have problems eating chemically-laden food, at least once in a while.

If your brain is not functioning properly, then you’re very likely to begin insisting that everything in your diet consist of real food.

I don’t know if orthorexia nervosa is a grand conspiracy – another way to misle innocent people into eating junk. If it were a conspiracy, it would be a brilliant one. I can’t imagine a better message from the likes of big food and big pharma.

We could boil down this message as follows:

Hey, we’re busy profiteering by infecting the planet and the food supply with chemicals. If you insist on avoiding our noxious faire, then you’re a mental case. Your brain has gone haywire and you should seek professional help from one of our mental health representatives.

When you arrive, you will be diagnosed mentally ill, of course. But don’t worry, we have pills for that. We’ve got you covered! Soon, your brain will be corrected and you’ll have no problem eating our crap.

Do you have orthorexia nervosa?

WebMD can help get started down the path to diagnosis. Just ask yourself the following questions, per their website:

• Are you spending more than three hours a day thinking about healthy food?

• Are you planning tomorrow’s menu today?

• Is the virtue you feel about what you eat more important than the pleasure you receive from eating it?

• Has the quality of your life decreased as the quality of your diet increased?

• Have you become stricter with yourself?

• Does your self-esteem get a boost from eating healthy?

• Do you skip foods you once enjoyed in order to eat the “right” foods?

• Does your diet make it difficult for you to eat anywhere but at home, distancing you from friends and family.

• Do you feel guilt or self-loathing when you stray from your diet?

• When you eat the way you’re supposed to, do you feel in total control?

Are any of these leading questions? You be the judge.

The ‘symtoms’ are common

There are people out there that experience anxiety about chemicals in their food. There may be people who are obsessive about eating only 100% pure food – and will go to any length to avoid food manufactured with impure ingredients. This may mean avoiding food at social gatherings, refusing certain foods prepared by others and taking considerable time planning and preparing meals.

Are all natural health advocates candidates for this diagnosis?

Natural health lovers be warned. One nutritionist says that you are in danger if you eat only healthy food. To quote Jennifer Culbert (SAR’09), a registered dietician:

So if someone cuts out processed food, or things that are genetically modified, or not grown organically, the danger is that they can become malnourished or underweight.

Got it? You must eat processed food, GMO’s and plenty of non-organic ingredients in order to avoid malnourishment.

How much more ridiculous can we get here, folks? My brain is spinning as I pick myself up off the floor. Laughing your ass off is dangerous, too. You can fall out of your chair.

Let’s be fair, though

The originator of the term is one Steven Bratman, MD. Dr. Bratman has taken some heat for his new term. On his website, he explains very carefully that he never intended for his concept to applied to anyone who is merely pursuing health by eating well. It was only intended for those who are suffering from an over-focus or “unhealthy obsession” with pure food.

I understand. I am sure there are those who take it too far. Not by eating only 100% real food 100% of the time, but by alienating others in their life who choose to eat a conventional diet. After alienating those around them, the health obsessed individual could get pretty lonely. This could be a valid concern.

Additionally, I am sure it is possible to become so paranoid about your food the even the purest and healthiest food choices available become suspicious. At this point, you might begin to dangerously restrict your diet.

Another fair point: Orthorexia nervosa is not an official diagnosis in the Diagnostic and Statistics Manual (DSM). It is merely used by clinicians, but not officially sanctioned by the APA.

Fair enough. The problem, however, is that clinicians are using it as a practical diagnosis and some of them appear to quite sloppy about it, in my humble opinion.

For example, one registered dietitian, Julie Upton, reported to the Huffington Post, “We have no specific criteria [for orthorexia], but we know it when we see it.”

And thus the problem with the mental health system in general and with mental “disorders.” The labels are there. If you get one, then you are officially mentally ill. You have a brain disorder. Yet, there are rarely, if ever, tests to validate the so-called brain disorder prior to prescribing meds.

There are pills to chemically alter your brain, but no tests. Have you ever had your child diagnosed as ADHD and put on psychiatric drugs? What tests were done to determine the physiological necessity of the drug?

In the case of orthorexia nervosa, there apparently aren’t any criteria for diagnosis. Clinicians “just know.” How dumb do you doctors, dietitians and counselors think we are?

The other problem is this: There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating a 100% clean, healthy diet 100% of the time!

Check the reference links below and you will discover that I am not making this stuff up.

Hey! Are you an orthorexic?

Alliance for Natural Health News at Risk

On this eve of estimated tax due date for Americans, I’m personally honing my own little “intentions” and um, “special blessings” to embed into my Trojan Horse check. As I’ve described before in “Embracing the Energy Potential of Money,” we have several options and ways to starve or maim the Beast.

I used to starve it. In recent years, I’ve gotten a bit more creative, charging my checks with spells and intentions for that money only to go for a) the Highest Good of All; with b) special emphasis on supporting organic farmers and protecting them and us from MonSatan, et al; and c) with the envelope and check leaving a long-lasting, indelible residue on any person or any system who handles said envelope, check or fiat money imprint so that those people and systems feel compelled to blow whistles, find new jobs that support humanity instead of raping and pillaging it, and/or (safely) dismantle the entire corrupt system.

I figure one of these days, the IRS will ask me not to send anything to them anymore (either that or I’ll get droned), but until that day, everything gets a special once-over on the Full Moon, which, conveniently for my purposes, just happens to coincide with the required postmark date.

I would have done this anyway, but those intentions received some extra emotional oomph (read: magickal pissed off power) from a notification that the IRS’s new power grab “regulations” could muzzle organizations like Alliance for Natural Health, forcing them to pipe down or lose their non-profit status. As ANH explains:

“Here’s an example: under the new IRS rules, even naming a candidate in any public communication through any medium, even orally—and this includes even vague references to him or her—within sixty days of a general election or thirty days of a primary election would be banned as “political activity.” This even includes content previously posted by an organization.

“Just imagine: sixty days before an election, ANH-USA would have to remove every single reference to a candidate from its website—no matter how old it is! We also wouldn’t be able to make any reference to a candidate’s connection to any legislation within sixty days of an election. This gives incumbents a thirty- to sixty-day free pass to introduce legislation with almost no public scrutiny.

“This is simply unconstitutional, and we should fight the rule that could make it a reality.

“Consider the implications: Sen. Durbin of Illinois—you may remember him as the anti-supplement senator who wants to regulate supplements like drugs—is up for reelection in 2014. If he reintroduces or has new anti-natural health legislation filed during the sixty days before his reelection, ANH-USA would be preventing from telling you about his connection to it.

“The new IRS rules will severely curtail the speech of 501(c)4s, as they may be afraid to engage in any political activities for fear of IRS or government retaliation. Any disgruntled politician could easily ask the IRS to revoke the 501(c)4 status of groups who disagree with his or her politics!

“Some readers suggested that it is unlikely that the IRS would scrutinize a smaller organization like ANH-USA. Don’t count on it. Although we are small in staff size, we represent millions of consumers. On numerous occasions, ANH-USA has suffered the wrath of members of Congress by holding up or working to change their bills.”

You can read the rest of the story and reader comments by clicking here. If you feel so inclined, you can also send a letter to the IRS telling them what you think. Click here if you’d like to do that.

I happen to know some very kind people who work for the IRS, but this Federal Reserve Beast has grown too many heads and represents too much power from the Usual Suspects — banksters who siphon US money to corrupt banks, ridiculous wars, and black ops, and the big nasties trying to poison and control our food, water and rights to natural health. Magickal ethics and practicality suggest using mundane methods whenever such ordinary measures will do the job. When dealing with unreasonable, completely inconsiderate, vampiric or downright evil people and entities, I prefer magick. It’s fun, clean, and I’ve received far better, consistent results from my little Trojan Horse checks and coded envelopes than all the calls, letters and rational approaches combined.

So, Happy Full Moon, End the Fed, and Blessed (We All Shall) Be.

Heads up About TPP and TTIP

One wonders how many backdoor negotiations continue during the government shutdown sham? If you’re reading from any of the Pacific Rim Countries listed in the below video, I encourage you to let those who claim to represent you in government know that you are watching them and are holding them accountable. Now. Before it’s too late. If you live in Europe, the US or Canada, I encourage you to scroll through for information about the equivalently evil trade agreement in the works for your areas. (It’s called the TTIP.)

FYI, the TPP details are so secret that (despite their demands) even Congress hasn’t been able to get its hands on the actual agreement details. Meanwhile, the largest corporations and the White House are all sitting at the table hammering out the next (strengthened) dictatorship. Think we’ve got a problem with corporate fascism now? Just you wait. The few details that have been leaked suggest that TPP would completely undermine any GMO labeling or bans, even in countries that already have such bans. It also would make the lowest common denominator of food standards the mandatory standard for all participating countries. In other words, let’s say China joins. Most of us have heard about Chinese “foods” that make even Monsanto’s frankenfoods look safe and healthy. Well, guess what? If China decides to join, then their food regulation levels could become those of all other participating countries. No exceptions, no matter what your nation’s laws require. The TPP overrides national sovereignty via corporate control. Again, no exceptions.

Ditto on workers rights. Think we’ve got a 1% problem now? At least workers can still organize to protest. The TPP seeks to stop all that, because, you know, this silly awakening of the little peons is bad for business. Must. Rape. More. Resources. Including people. The TPP also makes it a crime to click on certain internet links, even by accident. TPP takes the current levels of internet censorship and pumps them with GMO-mega-steroids. Because, you know, this internet awakening is also really pesky. Time to squash online opposition and free sharing of information that might (gasp!) free the people from corporate brainwashing and domination. We just can’t afford to have such things in our Brave New World (Order).

Those of you in Europe can look forward to something called the TTIP, the equivalent attempt at a secretive, corporate and big government run global trade agreement for countries on opposite sides of the Atlantic. If you’ve been sitting in Europe patting yourselves on the back that only silly Americans are so stupid to allow unlabeled GMO’s and rampant plantings of GMO crops in their country while you’ve got mandatory labeling or GMO crop bans in your country … well, think again. If this trade agreement goes through, then you, yes you, could be forced to accept US insanity as your own food, safety and worker guidelines. The TTIP also goes after intellectual and free speech rights.

Just as in the US, in the EU, this agreement is being negotiated in secrecy by lobbyists of the largest and sickest corporations in the countries affected. “These new treaties which represent U.S. and Canadian private corporations interests in EU countries and gives corporations as Exxon, Monsanto, Dow chemicals and many others right to sue any EU country and EU at the International Court. Both treaties are based on copyright regulations and compulsorily binding rules in order to get compensation if democratically approved legislation harms their interests.”

Here’s a video about the TPP:

“TPP: a trade and globalization agreement among 12 countries (Australia, Brunei-Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States, and Vietnam). If this agreement puts corporate rights first, workers and their families in all 12 countries could be harmed by downward pressure on wages and labor rights; more polluted air and water; reduced access to life saving medicines; and more powerful corporations influencing our laws and trying to override our voices. We encourage you to learn more about the TPP, share the video, and sign the petition to ask the governments involved to put people first as they work on this deal. Learn more about the TPP here:

Stop the Madness. Dr. Evil, Darth Vader, Monsatan and the lying, spying fascists and eugenicists belong in straight jackets and padded cells, not at the highest levels of power to determine our future. “Arrest” means stop, in addition to the idea of imprisoning sociopaths. While the world teeters on the brink of global collapse, rest assured, these whack jobs are drooling and peeing themselves with the next opportunity to “save” us from ourselves. Please do something about this. The middle men required to enforce this dystopia need to know we’re onto them. We’re watching, and we support them standing up to the psychotic bullies using them as useful (and eventually expendable) idiots. Now is the time.

Julian Assange Letter to Actor Who Plays Him In a Movie

“Those who lack the wisdom to unite in the face of a common enemy always end up being conquered.”
~ Proterrian

However you feel about Julian Assange, this is a powerful letter that asks questions of each of us — how do and how will our actions affect others, including the greater population of the world? How might the ways we portray others undermine the potential freedoms of an awakening population? Assange is respectful, but firm in his assessment of how each person’s choices and responsibilities have ripple effects beyond those they may initially consider. In this case, he explains: “Feature films are the most powerful and insidious shapers of public perception, because they fly under the radar of conscious exclusion. … This film is going to bury good people doing good work, at exactly the time that the state is coming down on their heads.”

A well-crafted letter with layers of questions we might each do well to ask ourselves, this is an excellent example of what I call “speaking the truth in love.” As Jessamyn West put it: “A religious [or spiritual] awakening which does not awaken the sleeper to love has roused him in vain.” I am heartened whenever I see compassion, respect and acknowledgment of the gray areas and onion layers of consciousness, because it’s not all black and white. Thank you, Julian, for modeling boundaries, respect and love for all of humanity.

Julian Assange’s letter to Benedict Cumberbatch

On October 9th WikiLeaks published the first letter from Julian Assange to Benedict Cumberbatch regarding “The Fifth Estate”, a Dreamworks movie about WikiLeaks set to open in the UK on Friday 11 Oct, and in the US on Friday 18 Oct. The press release about this letter is here. The letter was sent to Benedict Cumberbatch after he made overtures to contact Julian Assange in January this year, immediately before principal photography commenced.

Date: Tue, 15 Jan 2013
From: Julian Assange
To: Benedict Cumberbatch
Subject: Message from Assange

Dear Benedict,

Thank you for trying to contact me. It is the first approach by anyone from the Dreamworks production to me or WikiLeaks.

My assistants communicated your request to me, and I have given it a lot of thought and examined your previous work, which I am fond of.

I think I would enjoy meeting you.

The bond that develops between an actor and a living subject is significant.

If the film reaches distribution we will forever be correlated in the public imagination. Our paths will be forever entwined. Each of us will be granted standing to comment on the other for many years to come and others will compare our characters and trajectories.

But I must speak directly.

I hope that you will take such directness as a mark of respect, and not as an unkindness.

I believe you are a good person, but I do not believe that this film is a good film.

I do not believe it is going to be positive for me or the people I care about.

I believe that it is going to be overwhelmingly negative for me and the people I care about.

It is based on a deceitful book by someone who has a vendetta against me and my organisation.

In other circumstances this vendetta may have gone away, but our conflict with the United States government and the establishment press has created a patronage and commissioning market – powerful, if unpopular – for works and comments that are harmful to us.

There are dozens of positive books about WikiLeaks, but Dreamworks decided to base its script only on the most toxic. So toxic is the first book selected by Dreamworks that it is distributed to US military bases as a mechanism to discourage military personnel from communicating with us. Its author is publicly known to be involved in the Dreamworks production in an ongoing capacity.

Dreamworks’ second rights purchase is the next most toxic, biased book. Published and written by people we have had a bitter contractual dispute with for years, whose hostility is well known. Neither of these two books were the first to be published and there are many independent authors who have written positive or neutral books, all of whom Dreamworks ignored.

Dreamworks has based its entire production on the two most discredited books on the market.

I know the film intends to depict me and my work in a negative light.

I believe it will distort events and subtract from public understanding.

It does not seek to simplify, clarify or distil the truth, but rather it seeks to bury it.

It will resurrect and amplify defamatory stories which were long ago shown
to be false.

My organisation and I are the targets of political adversary from the United States government and its closest allies.

The United States government has engaged almost every instrument of its justice and intelligence system to pursue—in its own words—a ‘whole of government’ investigation of ‘unprecedented scale and nature’ into WikiLeaks under draconian espionage laws. Our alleged sources are facing their entire lives in the US prison system. Two are already in it. Another one is detained in Sweden.

Feature films are the most powerful and insidious shapers of public perception, because they fly under the radar of conscious exclusion.

This film is going to bury good people doing good work, at exactly the time that the state is coming down on their heads.

It is going to smother the truthful version of events, at a time when the truth is most in demand.

As justification it will claim to be fiction, but it is not fiction. It is distorted truth about living people doing battle with titanic opponents. It is a work of political opportunism, influence, revenge and, above all, cowardice.

It seeks to ride on the back of our work, our reputation and our struggles.

It seeks to cut our strength with weakness. To cut affection with exploitation. To cut diligence with paranoia. To cut loyalty with naivety. To cut principle with hypocrisy. And above all, to cut the truth with lies.

The film’s many distortions buttress what the prosecution will argue. Has argued. Is arguing. In my case, and in that of others. These cases will continue for years.

The studio that is producing the film is not a vulnerable or weak party.

Dreamworks’ free speech rights are not in jeopardy – ours are.

Dreamworks is an extremely wealthy organisation, with ties to powerful interests in the US government.

I must therefore question the choices and motives behind it: the opportunism, fears and mundanity; the unwritten rules of film financing and distribution in the United States; the cringe against doing something useful and brave.

I believe that you are a decent person, who would not naturally wish to harm good people in dire situations.

You will be used, as a hired gun, to assume the appearance of the truth in order to assassinate it. To present me as someone morally compromised and to place me in a falsified history. To create a work, not of fiction, but of debased truth.

Not because you want to, of course you don’t, but because, in the end, you are a jobbing actor who gets paid to follow the script, no matter how debauched.

Your skills play into the hands of people who are out to remove me and WikiLeaks from the world.

I believe that you should reconsider your involvement in this enterprise.

Consider the consequences of your cooperation with a project that vilifies and marginalises a living political refugee to the benefit of an entrenched, corrupt and dangerous state.

Consider the consequences to people who may fall into harm because of this film.

Many will fight against history being blackwashed in this way. It is a collective history now, involving millions of people, because millions have opened their eyes as a result of our work and the attempts to destroy us.

I believe you are well intentioned but surely you can see why it is a bad idea for me to meet with you.

By meeting with you, I would validate this wretched film, and endorse the talented, but debauched, performance that the script will force you to give.

I cannot permit this film any claim to authenticity or truthfulness. In its current form it has neither, and doing so would only further aid the campaign against me.

It is contrary to my interests, and to those of my organisation, and I thank you for your offer, and what I am sure is your genuine intent, but I must, with inexpressible regret, turn it down.

Jon Rappoport ~ Spiritual Fascism

Here’s Jon, in a “timely” explanation about how limitless and creative Reality truly is, no matter how much fascist governments, co-opted media or what I call “The New Age Borg” try to convince you otherwise. You are free to create and uncreate at Will and by Will. We are all artists. Some of us just happen to create more traditionally or abstractly or magickally or sur-really than others. And some of us recognize that art encompasses life. Indeed, art is life, and life is art … if we choose to embrace our own Creativity.

As Abraham-Hicks says, “You can’t get it wrong and you never get it done.” “You are a creator; you create with your every thought. You often create by default, for you are getting what you are giving your attention to wanted or unwanted but you know by how it feels if what you are getting (creating) is what you are wanting or if it is not what you are wanting. (Where is your attention focused?)”

Spiritual fascism

by Jon Rappoport

September 30, 2013

http://www.nomorefakenews.com

Year by year, I continue to make my case for the independent individual—one might even say the lone individual, except that this phrase has been co-opted to mean an assassin, a killer.

Which tells us where society is heading.

On every possible front, the psyop is about discrediting the individual and elevating the group and the collective.

Because I’m 75 years old, I’ve been around long enough to see the tectonic shift, among so-called intellectuals, from admiring and praising the individual to celebrating some sort of spiritual unity that makes us all into One Cosmic Glob.

For example: “There is really no separation between us. That’s an illusion. Finally, we are one consciousness.”

I dispute this. I reject it completely.

This, yes, insanity arises from a basic confusion and blind spot about the creative power (of the individual), which has no boundaries.

It is quite possible to imagine and create and invent a perception that we are all one consciousness and to experience the fullness of the perception. It is not an illusion. It is quite real.

But one can also un-create that perception.

In fact, in the early spiritual exercises of Tibetan tantric students and adepts, this on-off creation was a significant component. It was done, consciously, as a merging and un-merging with Nature. It was PRACTICED on a daily basis.

In early Tibet, a truly unique culture that was soon dismantled and destroyed by theocratic leaders, the individual was recognized as an staggeringly powerful artist.

Rather than assume there was one final highest reality we all share, it was understood that the individual could and did invent realities without limit.

Presuming to understand a final reality for all of us was considered absurd.

It is also a form of fascism. Spiritual fascism.

Once you embark on a road of imagination and creating, all bets are off. All preconceptions about what you must do, make, think, assume, and believe are yesterday’s news.

The individual is no longer “dangerous or deluded or separated from his brothers and sisters by ego” or any of the other debilitating formulations that have been offered to convince we are all One.

Here and now you or I can sit and invent the perception that, yes, we are all one consciousness…and then dispense with that perception. In either case, I’m doing it. You’re doing it. You’re creating a perception.

That’s what artists do, what they’ve always done. Somehow, in this cheesy spiritually fascist web of confusion, the fact has been lost.

People occasionally write to me and say the artist has no function in this society. Well, I’m not talking about function. Function is for machines.

Machines aren’t free.

This society is supposed to exist to allow the individual to flourish, but waiting for that to happen will put you on the track to nowhere.

Society is heading for more and more collectivism. Economically, politically, spiritually.

Here is a bottom line. People in this world believe in what they create, except they’re not aware of what they’re creating.

They think, instead, they’re seeing what’s already there.

This missing link explains a great deal.

People are playing a shell game with themselves. They’re placing the pea inside a particular shell, and then they’re turning over the shell and finding the pea.

Then they exclaim, “Look what I found!”

NO. They didn’t find it. They put it there to begin with.

They created a reality and then denied they created it.

This would be like a painter spending six months making a huge work in his studio and then saying…”It’s a miracle. I walked into the studio today and I found this painting leaning against the wall. Astonishing!”

Yes, you can conceive of (create) all of humanity and stars and galaxies as One Consciousness if you want to. You can do that. You can also do something else. In either case, you did it. And you can undo it.

The clue you should take from that exercise is: you have an extraordinary capacity to create “content.”

Dictators and fascists tell you what content you should create, and on top of that, they say you didn’t create the content at all. It was always there.

I could write a science fiction story that goes this way: One day, the guy next door, who is a painter, lugs one of his large canvases into your house and hangs it on the wall. He has a big grin on his face. He’s positively serene. He’s producing great GENEROSITY out of every pore. He says, “Look at this! This is what reality really is. Do you see? It shows that we’re all one great consciousness. And the funny thing is, I didn’t paint this. It just appeared on a blank canvas. I saw it this morning when I went into my studio! Now, listen. You should believe in this painting, too. You really should. This is the higher reality…”

Yes, I could write this science fiction story. Except it’s already happening, every day.

Bradley Manning ~ ‘Sometimes You Have to Pay a Heavy Price to Live in a Free Society’

I’m still sending and requesting much love, gratitude, protection, prayers and Reiki to, for and around Bradley Manning. May those in positions to make a difference find their conscience and their sleep severely troubled until they make things right. May those who do act to follow their conscience enjoy the blessings, relief and protection of the Divine finally shining through them.

Can’t imagine what that looks like? Observe the hero who graces your courtroom and prison with his presence. Much respect, Bradley Manning. Thank you for walking your talk and living your heart. May you be showered with the blessings you’re too humble to seek; may you feel the love and honor of those who truly see you.

Thanks, Ann: “At approximately 10:14 AM EDT this morning, Bradley Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison. This afternoon, his attorneys met the press.”

Manning invoked that late Howard Zinn, quoting, “There is not a flag large enough to cover the shame of killing innocent people.”

‘Sometimes You Have to Pay a Heavy Price to Live in a Free Society’

by Bradley Manning

The following is a transcript of the statement made by Pfc. Bradley Manning as read by David Coombs at a press conference on Wednesday:

The decisions that I made in 2010 were made out of a concern for my country and the world that we live in. Since the tragic events of 9/11, our country has been at war. We’ve been at war with an enemy that chooses not to meet us on any traditional battlefield, and due to this fact we’ve had to alter our methods of combating the risks posed to us and our way of life.

I initially agreed with these methods and chose to volunteer to help defend my country. It was not until I was in Iraq and reading secret military reports on a daily basis that I started to question the morality of what we were doing. It was at this time I realized in our efforts to meet this risk posed to us by the enemy, we have forgotten our humanity. We consciously elected to devalue human life both in Iraq and Afghanistan. When we engaged those that we perceived were the enemy, we sometimes killed innocent civilians. Whenever we killed innocent civilians, instead of accepting responsibility for our conduct, we elected to hide behind the veil of national security and classified information in order to avoid any public accountability.

In our zeal to kill the enemy, we internally debated the definition of torture. We held individuals at Guantanamo for years without due process. We inexplicably turned a blind eye to torture and executions by the Iraqi government. And we stomached countless other acts in the name of our war on terror.

Patriotism is often the cry extolled when morally questionable acts are advocated by those in power. When these cries of patriotism drown our any logically based intentions [unclear], it is usually an American soldier that is ordered to carry out some ill-conceived mission.

Our nation has had similar dark moments for the virtues of democracy—the Trail of Tears, the Dred Scott decision, McCarthyism, the Japanese-American internment camps—to name a few. I am confident that many of our actions since 9/11 will one day be viewed in a similar light.

As the late Howard Zinn once said, “There is not a flag large enough to cover the shame of killing innocent people.”

I understand that my actions violated the law, and I regret if my actions hurt anyone or harmed the United States. It was never my intention to hurt anyone. I only wanted to help people. When I chose to disclose classified information, I did so out of a love for my country and a sense of duty to others.

If you deny my request for a pardon, I will serve my time knowing that sometimes you have to pay a heavy price to live in a free society. I will gladly pay that price if it means we could have country that is truly conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all women and men are created equal.

Protect Small Farmers and Non-irradiated Organic Food

As if Dick Durbin isn’t enough to contend with … here comes the FDA recycling an old, sneaky attempt to do away with small farms, fresh foods, raw foods and anything non-irradiated. Not for actual public safety, not with proof of danger … just a rogue “suspicion” is enough to shut down small farmers. Sounds like the equivalent of NDAA indefinite detention for farmers! Can you say “Codex Alimentarius?!” How obvious can they be?

In all seriousness, though, this same attempt was previously thwarted through petitions and phone calls. If you in any way value Farmer’s Markets, organic food, healthy DNA, and the last shreds of food sovereignty, please read below and take action. Again.

I’m all for a brand, spankin’ new paradigm, but as long as we’re quasi-functioning in this one, let’s protect real food and real farmers. The life you save may be your own, and no, that is not an exaggeration. Access to real food and clean water are way more important than the DOW or some silly bipartisan “initiative.” As George Carlin said, “Bipartisan usually means that a larger-than-usual deception is being carried out.”

To the FDA: you wouldn’t know real food if you slipped on an organic banana peel. Until you can stop pandering to Monsanto and the chemical companies, stop persecuting Amish farmers and start protecting organic family farmers, kindly remove your stinky a$$ from my plate. My local farmers and I feed ourselves much better than you and the phood fascists ever would.

OK, rant temporarily over. Important information and petition link below, and please act as you feel led:

What Does the Government Have Against Organic Farmers?

August 6, 2013
ANH Action Alert

Three years ago you won major concessions for small farmers. Now it’s all in danger. Action Alert!

When the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) was originally proposed in 2010, we and many other organizations were troubled. Small-farm and organic food advocates warned that the legislation would destroy their industry under a mountain of paperwork and other requirements.

Working with the natural health community, ANH-USA helped win the inclusion of an amendment from Senators Jon Tester (D-MT) and Kay Hagan (D-NC), which exempted producers making less than $500,000 a year in sales who also sold most of their food locally. This wasn’t easy. Big farms and processed food companies and their allies at the USDA and FDA did not like it, because they feel threatened by competition from natural food producers.

Now, through the rulemaking process, the FDA is trying to change the law in such a way that the hard-won exceptions provided by the Tester-Hagan Amendment are endangered.

In January we reported that the FDA had proposed two troubling FSMA rules:

The first one concerned standards for the growing and harvesting of raw agricultural produce, and exempts foods that are sterilized by irradiation, even though “nuking” it harms the food’s nutritional value, can cause a wide range of health problems, and masks filthy conditions in slaughterhouses and food processing plants. Obviously, organic foods cannot be irradiated, so they will never be exempted.

The second amended the FDA’s Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) guidelines by creating hazards analysis requirements and risk-based protections with lots of detailed recordkeeping. Most farmers will likely need a team of lawyers to make sure they’re complying with the new rule properly.

Farmers who make less than $500,000 should be off the hook because of the Tester-Hagan Amendment, right? No! At the last minute, a provision was added to the FSMA allowing the FDA to revoke the exemption for small farms or facilities under specific conditions.

And now, new FDA rules interpret those conditions in a way that completely undermines the intent of the Tester-Hagan amendment. The FDA now gets to revoke the exemption if a foodborne illness outbreak might possibly be linked to the farm, even if there is no proof that the farm is the cause of the outbreak, and even though there may not be an immediate threat to public health!

Laura again: Much more information here. Please do take action on this one. The proposed restrictions to farmers and the fascist powers granted to the FDA are truly absurd and terrifying if we cower to them. Personally, I prefer a swift boot to the butt. “Oh, now go. Walk out the door. Just turn around now. You’re not welcome anymore.”
