How to Protect Yourself from Empathing Societal Angst and EMF Madness

This is not intended to be a comprehensive article, but I wanted to respond to multiple rounds of questions in emails and sessions from people finding it hard to stay balanced right now. Whether you find yourself reacting to increased EMF frequencies from Smart Meters, cell phones, and other electronics, or the people around you seem like assaults of negativity, this article contains some quick, multi-layered suggestions for dealing with disruptions to your natural energy field. I don’t have any financial relationship with any of these vendors. I’m just sharing things that have worked for me or that I personally know have helped other people. Please feel free to share other tips you’ve found effective in the comments section. ūüôā

SAR Shields and Q-links

I use both of these items, and I have found them top of the line in terms of lowering my EMF reactivity. The SAR Shield in particular, I have put on both my iPhone and my Smart Meter, and I’ve noticed extreme results from both.

I don’t have an EMF reader other than my own body, but I can tell you that when I first got my iPhone 4S, it made me so ill I wondered if I had gotten another brain injury. I couldn’t think straight, walk straight, had extreme nausea, dizziness, fatigue and malaise, even with my iPhone turned on in another room! As a last ditch effort not to return it, I ordered a SAR Shield, not expecting much, since I’ve not had great results from other cell phone “protectors.” I had already tried some others on my iPhone, and they didn’t even touch the radiation poisoning effects I experienced. Some of them actually increased those feelings! Until I added the SAR Shield, the only relief I got was from turning off the phone, and even that took some recuperation time. Once I added the SAR Shield, though, I could hold and operate my iPhone without feeling like I was being fried alive.

Having had such success on my iPhone, I decided to try my extra SAR shield on my Smart Meter. I have never seen this advertised as effective for a Smart Meter, nor am I suggesting it’s an effective cure. I did find that I stopped feeling so zapped by the pulses once I added this unobtrusive sticker on the bottom of the meter, facing the ground. I would prefer not to have a Smart Meter at all, but it’s in an area of the house we don’t frequent. Given the arrests and harassment happening with people demanding their Smart Meters be removed, I’ve opted for the SAR Shield at this time.

David introduced me to the Q-link back in Summer 2011 when I started walking around the house like a drunken sailor during Solar Flares. I would completely lose my balance to the point of comedy, although the laughs wore off once I realized I really couldn’t control the vertigo. He had purchased a Q-link from our chiropractor friends a few years prior, dug it out, and had me put it on. Presto, no more balance issues, and I also stopped feeling so fried around my laptop and fluorescent lights. We got me one, and I found it very helpful for shielding me from electromagnetic pollution, and especially from the effects of Solar Flares and CME’s. Most people seem to react once the waves hit Earth; however, I found through retroactive research that I am most sensitive to the flares and CME’s as they eject from the Sun itself. Having seen the positive effects for me, David now wears his Q-link all the time, too. The Q-link isn’t a cure-all for me, as I still feel way better away from fluorescent lights, high tension wires and certain computers, but it makes life much more balanced and tolerable.

Although the SAR Shield and Q-link are for electromagnetic protection, it’s worth noting that we are all electromagentic beings. Other peoples’ energy fields come at us, in part, via electromagnetic pulses, so these shielding devices can feel somewhat helpful for such encounters. More importantly, we are more susceptible to others’ energy manipulations or disruptions when our own energy field gets weakened. By protecting our field, these types of shields also keep us stronger to deal with emotional bleed-through and empathic experiences.

Helpful Crystals and Stones: Rocks Rock!

When we need to ground ourselves, what better grounding device than turning to crystals and stones that grow deep within Earth? I’m just going to list some particularly effective ones here. Again, this is not meant to be a comprehensive list:

Charoite: This purple stone helps ward off negative vibrations and emotions from other people. Keep it by your bed to protect your dream state, or on your person during the day. Even a small stone offers large protective benefits.

Sodalite: This blue and white stone looks kind of like planet Earth, and it has both grounding and protective effects. I keep a large hunk right on my bed stand and also use it in baths.

Salt: Sea Salt, Celtic Sea Salt, Himalayan Sea Salt … any of these natural (unrefined) salts offer both grounding and magickal protection. Creating a circle of salt around your bed can ward off negative spirits, thoughts, and emotions. Using it in a bath can help you detox both stress and toxins through your skin. The trace minerals in salt also permeate your skin and help you to calm down biochemically.

Raw Ruby: This is one of my favorite stones for grounding. Tania Marie made me a copper wrapped raw ruby and faery quartz necklace that I wear on days I anticipate will be particularly frazzling to the nerves. Unlike cut rubies, you can find raw rubies quite cheap in rock shops or online.

Amethyst: This one’s tricky, and you will need to observe yourself to know how or if to use it. I love amethyst, and it does have spiritually protective qualities; however, it is a very high vibe, non-grounded crystal. If you feel depressed or disconnected from Spirit, then amethyst may work wonders for you. If you feel totally disconnected from the Earth, then amethyst will likely increase those feelings. I get a wicked headache if I wear amethyst during a Solar Flare or if I’ve spent too much time in my upper chakras, but I love the high vibe uptick on a dreary day.

Hematite: This one’s an update, because I forgot to add it during the first go-round, even though I was wearing a hematite bracelet! I use hematite in the area right behind our Smart Meter to buffer the EMF’s, and I wear a hematite bracelet most of the time. I find the combo of a Q-link and hematite bracelet provides a noticeable boost to my energy.

Runes

The THORN Rune and the AR Rune are particularly protective against electromagnetic or HAARP manipulations, nasty thoughts projected at you, as well as empathic bleedthrough of others’ emotions, including the societal pulse.

THORN (also known as “Dorn,” “Thurisaz” and “D’hoarrn”) acts like a semi-permeable membrane, allowing good energies through, but preventing the passage of anything untoward. Think of the thorny hedge in Sleeping Beauty that kept everyone away for 100 years until just the right prince came along to penetrate the hedge and awaken the kingdom.

The AR Rune works more specifically against ghosts, spirits, “ill-witching” energies, or subconscious sabotage programs.

Runes in general work on the subconscious level, so they can effectively bypass negative programming, past life blocks, or split intentions. I have studied several systems of Runes in-depth for many years. I find the Runa Faery tradition and the Armanen system the most powerful for reprogramming the subconscious mind. Since the subconscious mind creates our reality, finding conscious ways to influence it can dramatically alter our external projections. Both the Runa Faery tradition and the Armanen system are self-protecting in that few people find and delve into these Runic patterns. The above links include basic instructions on how to use these Runes for protection. Deeper information than the links I provided is out there for those with a desire and resonance to find it. Runemagick.com contains some comprehensive courses on Runes and energy direction for those who feel drawn to a different relationship with Runes than the more commonly known Elder Futhark offers.

Good Old-Fashioned Prayer

Simply put, prayer works. It really does. Focus more on what you want, feeling gratitude for already receiving that protection and peace, and you will feel stronger and faster effects. A blanket, “Holy Spirit, please fill me and flood me with your Holy Presence” works wonders. Some people may substitute “Great Spirit” with similar effects.

Get Dirty

Actually, Mama Earth prefers you use the term, “soil,” but whatever you call it, make contact. Put your hands or bare feet on or in the ground and feel the natural rhythm of Mother Earth. Hug a tree. Smell the grass. Eat real food. Hint: real food comes from the ground. You might even need to wash it! Eating organic, fresh, real, minimally processed food creates an energy signature in you that more closely matches the natural world. You become what you eat, and when you eat Nature, then your own frequency mirrors Nature more than all the artificial stimulants and distractions of the post-modern, illusory world.

Charge Your Energy Field Before Leaving Home

I learned these exercises over a decade ago from kundalini yoga:

1. Stand with your feet hip distance apart and arms out to the sides at shoulder height. Swing from left to right with your breath. Some instructors say to keep your feet flat on the floor. Others allow for a bit of shift as you twist. Feel which works best for you. You’ll know it’s working if you feel a surge of energy and electrical charge spreading around you from your fingertips.

2. Stand and bend your knees, hip distance apart, arms hanging at your sides. On the in-breath sweep your arms over your head as you straighten your legs and lift onto your tip toes. Exhale and return to the starting position. Repeat until you feel charged above, below and around you.

3. Practice the Breath of Fire. Sit in a comfortable position with feet or buttocks on the ground. Inhale and then begin to exhale only, using your belly to push the air out. Your lungs will naturally refill between exhales. Practice 30 seconds- 2 minutes as you feel able to strengthen and charge your vitality and energy field.

Sing!

Release energy by making a joyful noise unto the heavens. Watch what words you’re repeating through song, since music intensifies the power of words. Once you find sacred chants or affirmative songs you love, let ‘er rip. You’ll strengthen your throat and heart chakras, enabling you to align your words with your heart. You’ll also increase your intuition and spiritual awareness, joy (2nd chakra), confidence, and feel more grounded in your body through the physical act of singing instead of just mentally mumbling the words.

Experiment to find other things that work for you, and then make note of these.

When you find a repertoire that helps you feel balanced, you can more easily choose the right thing at the right time to shift you into the vibration and comfort level you desire.

All the best to each of you in these wild and potent times!

Halloween Fun and NaNoWriMo

Laura Fairy Bodega 1
Karen Lang of Lemurian Stargate offered me one of the best Halloween celebrations ever: a trip for the second year in a row to her family’s vacation home just north of Bodega Bay. Last year I hosted a weekend of classes, but this year, it was all about the writing. National Novel Writing Month, that is. Yes, she and I have officially joined the somewhat insane quest to write 50,000 words of a novel during the month of November.

I considered doing this last year, but opted not to push myself so hard in my quest to finish Schizandra and the Gates of Mu. Even though I’ve recovered my vision from my 1998 brain injury, 50,000 seemed like a LOT of words! But this year I realized that I had written about 20,000 words of character studies, scenery and research during the final week of October, and suddenly 50,000 words didn’t seem so impossible.

I am, of course, working on book 2 of the Schizandra Series, Schizandra and the Peruvian Jaguar. So many people keep asking when I’ll release this book that I’ve felt the need to hunker down. In addition to the 20K of background prep, I began November 1 with 5,782 words of actual text. I’m not counting that for NaNoWriMo, because we’re supposed to start fresh on the first. So far, I’ve written an additional 5,300 words or so, leaving me about one day behind, but still hovering over 11,000 words total.

I may or may not post progress updates this month. If you don’t hear from me, you’ll know why. I’ve got another 1,400 to write tonight. Considering that eleven years ago a brain injury left me unable to read or write longer than five minutes per day without an excruciating migraine, I figure getting anywhere close to 50,000 words in one month will be cause for major celebration. It’s just a first draft, but all books begin that way. If I keep pace, then Schizandra and the Peruvian Jaguar really should be ready by Spring 2010. No promises, though!

Speaking of celebrations … I had so much fun dressing up for Halloween that I put on fairy face paint the next day, too.

November 1 is my character Schizandra’s birthday, so Karen and I said a little Happy B-day to her and then hit the beach to look for stones. I found a pocketful of jade, pictured below:

OK, I’m off on a mad dash of words, kombucha and cacao. Wishing you a wonderful November! Fairy Blissings …

You’ve had quite a journey into raw foods! How and when did you first discover this diet and lifestyle and what convinced you to make the switch?

Yes, it really has been a journey, difficult at times, but also magical and amazingly rewarding! I first discovered this lifestyle about a year and a half ago. I was in the process of awakening to the power of the body to self heal, the majesty of the mind in facilitating that process, and the truths about what we, as a society, consider food. I had been suffering debilitating symptoms for about two years prior to that. Frequent tension headaches accompanied by severe facial flushing, skin rashes and blisters on a daily basis, insomnia, severe food sensitivities, mild depression, anxiety and instability with my emotions in general were just a handful of the symptoms that plagued me. I found some relief with alternative methods, such as acupuncture, herbs and chiropractic care, but I was still suffering a great deal.

In the world of alternative health, medical mysteries often go hand in hand with the diagnosis of “toxicity.‚ÄĚ This was the only footing I had at understanding a root cause to my symptoms, so I was vigilantly trying to undertake cleansing. At this point in my journey I was trying my best to eat an organic, whole foods diet, so a cleanse to me was eating fruits, salads, steamed veggies, etc. for a week. At the time eating that way felt incredibly difficult to me, but I would have done anything to feel better.

I went to Copperfield’s Books one night in search of a cleanse and happened upon The Miracle Detox Diet, by Robert Norse, N.D. When I got the book home I devoured the information. I couldn’t believe what I was reading and all the research and facts to support why a raw lifestyle is the healthiest diet for any living animal.

More than all the scientific data though, it just really resonated with me as such an obvious truth. It felt like information I had always known deep down, but had long forgotten. I thought, “Animals in nature don’t cook their food? Why do we cook, pasteurize, steam and heat everything?”

When I read about domesticated animals getting the same degenerative diseases as humans, yet wild animals not encountering these illnesses, a light bulb went off for me. I remember reading an article about animals at the zoo and how if they are fed cooked food, they die. That was shocking to me and I really began to educate myself, study and read scientific literature regarding our bodies and raw foods. The funny thing about my introduction to raw foods, is it was the day before Thanksgiving!

At this point in my journey I was very familiar with the Law of Attraction and manifestation, so the information I was absorbing coupled with the fact that I had “stumbled” upon this book, was enough to empower me to try this lifestyle starting the very next day, Thanksgiving! All the research I was doing really kept me going with raw foods because, although some experience major benefits right away, I didn’t feel better right off the bat.

What I did experience very quickly, though, was an unfolding and opening of my spirituality. I always considered myself a spiritual person, but the first week of going raw my third eye just burst open :). I was lying in bed and could feel this incredible energy in what felt like tingly, pleasant, pressure between my eyebrows/forehead area. I was laying there in utter amazement because I had never felt anything like that before. I soon began to feel energy movement in my body very easily and would put myself to sleep meditating, breathing deep and feeling energy flow within me. It was so peaceful and made me feel so connected to myself, all beings and the planet. I never wanted to lose that. My spirituality really began to flourish and deepen.

Raw foods are an amazing tool that allowed me to access parts of myself I was not in touch with before. As my journey progressed I became much more intuitive and that allowed me to be in “the flow” so I could make connections I needed to, get help and answers when needed and really dig deep and face myself exactly where I was and am at, with all my complexity and gifts :).

These tools, coupled with my diet have really facilitated a metamorphosis in my life on all levels; physical, emotional, and spiritual.

What are your favorite beauty tips for face care? Body care?

Personally, it doesn’t matter what I do or put on my skin if I am putting foods that cause inflammation into my body. The appearance of your skin can be affected by various factors, but one main contributor to skin appearance is the state of your gut. When I eat foods my body regards as toxic or irritating, I see it!

That being said, there are many tools I use to really take care of and nourish my skin, from the inside as well as out. I’ll start with the inside. Green juice is the best beauty drink of all time! I try to drink about 16 oz. of green juice a day. I’m not fanatical about it and there are days where I don’t get it in, but it’s difficult not to drink it when the results are so astounding. My skin takes on a glow it just doesn’t get when I have gone periods without it. Drinking green juice gives the body mineral rich vegetation in a completely absorbable form. My favorite green juice is apple, celery, cucumber, kale, sun choke.

Cassie with Green Juice Web

MSM is my favorite beauty supplement. It works wonders on itching, rashes and other skin blemishes. Lately I have been taking a heaping teaspoon full a day. I mix it into my green smoothies after blending, as it is very heat sensitive and can easily be compromised by churning blades of a blender.

For my outer body and skin, my main beauty secret is exfoliation. As we age, our skin cell renewal slows down. Exfoliation helps skin to shed old, dying cells and reveals new skin cells to the surface. Exfoliation also increases blood flow, and therefore oxygen, to the skin. The skin is our largest organ, but it is on the periphery of the body. Our bodies are extremely intelligent and when we have imbalance, blood flow and oxygen are sent to the most vital inner organs and tissues. Our skin, hair and nails are last on the list.

This is why you see patients in chemotherapy lose their hair. The body is working so hard at keeping that person’s system functioning that it stops sending nutrients, blood and oxygen to the hair. It’s not needed for survival. By exfoliating, we increase blood flow to the skin, enabling this organ to get extra care and nourishment. The best way to exfoliate is to brush your body when the skin is dry. I use a natural bristle body brush from Whole Foods called Yerba Prima. I brush my entire body every morning before I shower.

Many people who do body brush forget their face! The face loves exfoliation too. You just need to use a bit of a softer bristle and work up to a comfortable pressure. I was using a synthetic brush for some time, then I read a great tip from raw author Tanya Zavasta. She recommends a 100% horse hair shoe brush. This works amazingly well for me and my skin is very soft. You will notice a pretty pink warm your cheeks as blood flows to the skin after face brushing. My particular brush brand is Kiwi.

I also brush my face every morning and often at night if I am not wearing any makeup. You don’t want to brush skin that has makeup on because you will be pushing makeup and other debris that has accumulated on your face throughout the day into your pores.

I love exfoliation so much I also often use a face scrub by Sumbody in the shower. I love the Russet Polishing Grains scrub. It’s mineral rich and has soy milk for soothing and softening the skin. Some other great options for gentle exfoliation are hemp or bamboo wash cloths and I also really like Tanya Zavasta’s face mask. She includes a face brush to help remove the mask, which provides some exfoliation as well. Nothing tops the dry brushing though.

I will say, I have been exfoliating for a long time and people should work up to facial exfoliation slowly and use very gentle pressure to start. Maybe start out 2-3 times a week and see how your skin feels. If you know you have very sensitive skin, opt for a very gentle scrub, like Go JoJo Facial Cleanser from Sumbody and start out slowly to see how you feel with the stimulation.

If you have inflamed acne, never use scrub! You will only irritate and inflame your skin more. Acne can be complicated and I would first focus on what you put in your body, as well as your spiritual development before looking to the external for a cure. When things mellow with your skin, proceed with incorporating a scrub slowly. A great tip for those with acne, as well as everyone else, is to use a gentle toner. I’m not a fan of astringent toners, especially with any amount of alcohol as I feel they strip the skin of vital oils and harm the Ph balance, but Sumbody has some great flower water toners that are alcohol free and Raw Gaia has a great toner as well with essential oils. Toners are great for bringing skin Ph back into balance, removing residue from cleansers, cleaning the skin in general (I often just cleanse with toner if I’m not wearing makeup) and removing dead skin cells that are ready to be sloughed off once you‚Äôve loosened them with brushing :).

Of all the products I use, I don’t use anything on my skin that I would be afraid to eat! Your skin absorbs 60% of what goes on it: that’s how patch medications work, like the birth control patch.¬†

Do you have any favorite beauty products?

The ones I mentioned above are favorites, as well as coconut butter for a body moisturizer and shea butter for lip balm and face cream. I really like Tanya Zavasta’s products and her skin cream smells like marshmallows, yummy! Pure aloe is also a great moisturizer and skin soother. Just make sure it doesn’t have other questionable ingredients. You can add a few drops of jojoba oil for added moisture as well.

Sumbody Products

Another favorite product is my ionic toothbrush. I alternate between the ionic toothbrush and my Sonicare, but the ionic one is the best in my opinion at getting plaque completely off teeth so they feel silky smooth even in hard to reach places. I spend a good 3 minutes every time I brush too, really running over my teeth with my tongue to make sure I don’t feel any “fuzzyness”.

I just saw my family this weekend and I got compliments on how white my teeth are. They asked if I whiten my teeth and I had to tell them the truth, I don’t use whitening products! ūüôā

You and your husband are such a beautiful couple. Do you have him on any special program or products?

SteveNCassie

My husband Steven is so cute; he uses whatever I get him! Besides a couple years in his teens, Steven has always had really easy skin. Before going raw he would get the once in a blue moon blemish, but I don’t even remember the last time I saw him with the smallest spot! He did ask me recently though about how often he should be exfoliating, because even guys want to prevent aging! He uses a face scrub from Sumbody in the shower and For Her Sons Living Moisturizer from Raw Gaia. He also just started to body brush on occasion…. so we’ll see how that goes! He uses coconut oil as a hair gel. We both also use Toothsoap and Oralive from Ascended Health for brushing our teeth and keeping them nice and white!

What services do you offer?

I’m certified in Reiki 1 and 2 and offer this healing technique in person as well as at a distance. I have a deep connection to crystals and their energies and offer intuitive crystal healing as well. I also offer wellness coaching, including incorporating and transitioning more raw foods into one’s diet.

I have my B.A. in psychology and I always knew I wanted to help people on an emotional and spiritual level. My experience in holistic health has allowed me to merge the emotional, physical, and spiritual in terms of looking at holistic ways of helping people to heal. All spheres of our lives are connected. One part cannot be altered or changed without affecting all the other facets of our lives.

For this reason I like to look at health and wellness as a web and incorporate different aspects depending on a particular person‚Äôs needs and desires. Our home environment and the energy we surround ourselves with is another sphere that I enjoy exploring with others. Feng Shui is a beautiful technique for creating balance in one’s external world.

You have two adorable dogs and one cat. Please share a bit about them. Do they follow a raw diet, too?

My husband and I have two Alaskan Klee Kais (AKK) named Malachi and Maikoda and an adopted cat named Milo. AKKs are a rare breed and are basically a miniature Alaskan Husky, although they often look more like little Siberian Huskies. They are similar to other breeds of northern decent and have double coats, LOTS of energy (so they need lots of exercise), and love to run! They differ in that they are extremely pack oriented and remind me often of a wild pack. They are very cautious with strangers, yet very loving and attached to their human companions. They are usually docile in nature and do well with owners who have the time to give these little dogs the exercise, attention and love they need. They would not do well being at home all day without their human companion.

Maikoda and Malachi

Milo is a sweet natured cuddlebug we adopted from a local shelter. He was labeled as semi feral when we chose him and he often hides when we have visitors :). He loves basking in the sun and bird watching from windows. He gets along great with the dogs and is king of our home. He often plays with the puppy, Maikoda, and he is totally in charge! Sometimes I catch him in the sweetest moment grooming Malachi.

They are a playful bunch and I often refer to them as our little gremlins. All our pets do follow a raw diet. I recently wrote a blog post with details on what we feed them, as well as supplements they take and other pet musings ūüôā You can check it out here.

How do you keep a balance between inner and outer beauty?

I keep a balance by remembering to give gratitude for all the beautiful gifts in my life. I am so grateful for all that I have learned about health and well-being, for all the love and support that surrounds me in my husband, family and friends. For awakening to my true self and having the courage to work on my spirit. Being grateful puts us in a high vibration.

Inner and outer beauty, although seemingly polarities, are actually one and the same. It is now scientifically proven that we are primarily energetic beings. Our thoughts, and more importantly, our feelings become our realities. It is said within every seven years every cell in our body has been replaced with new cells. In essence, we have a completely new body every seven years. These new cells that are constantly being created are directly influenced by our thoughts and feelings.

Do you wish to see beauty in the mirror? Then DO a beautiful act of kindness, think beautiful thoughts of love and compassion, feel gratitude for the things you actually like about yourself. The world you create within influences and eventually mirrors your external world. I feel a key strategy to shifting your feelings in this regard is understanding the power of the media and to not fully immerse yourself in television and magazines.

My husband and I stopped getting cable about a year ago and it was the best decision we ever made! You have no idea how much power these sources have until you go on a media diet! Without all the plastic, airbrushed, artificially enhanced, brainwashing in your face day after day, you may start to appreciate the things about yourself that are unique to only you.

I know it sounds cliché, but we are all truly beautiful in our own ways. Finding aspects about ourselves we can celebrate for their natural beauty is an amazing gift to give yourself and others. When we accept and can see the beauty we posses, we give permission to others to see their unique beauty as well.

As someone who once would not leave the house without makeup on, I understand the guilt and shame our society projects onto women and men alike in regards to natural, authentic beauty. Despite my past history, I can honestly say I now feel more comfortable in my own skin then I ever have in my life. I actually like my skin, and most days don’t want to cover up what I have worked so hard to reflect health of body and mind.

Treat your body with love and care; it is your vehicle for conscious expansion. By loving our bodies, feeding ourselves fresh, organic, whole foods, getting enough sleep, getting sunshine, experiencing joy and laughter, we increase the beauty factor in our lives, and our cells literally illuminate this truth for all to see.

What do crystals and moon cycles have to do with beauty?

The lunar cycles are a powerful, magical force that affect all living beings, plants and our planet. Just as lunar energy affects the oceans and plants in cycles, it too affects our bodies, even if we are unaware of this force. Hair is affected by the lunar cycles similarly to plants. Farmers and cultivators of our earth from times of old knew of these cycles, revered and respected them, and therefore cultivated their crops in accordance with nature to yield the best food and healthiest plants. This ancient knowledge has been passed on, and although in our society it has been long forgotten, it is remembered in some older farming methods and the newer traditions of biodynamic gardening.

You can even find the moon cycles in farmer’s almanacs with tips of when to grow, plant, and prune plants. With certain phases of lunar cycles, energy is pulled into the root, or out of the root. Cutting one’s hair at certain times actually can send a signal to the hair shaft to stop growing, just as with plants! For this reason, it is beneficial to know about the moon cycles and to cut one’s hair only on auspicious days for hair growth.

If you actually want to hinder hair growth, such as with shaving, plucking or waxing, it would be beneficial to do this on days that correlate with stunting growth.

I have read beautiful, insightful works regarding our hair as our spiritual antenna. It is said that areas on the body where hair thickens, is to further facilitate spiritual energy to these chakras. For instance, the two major sites of hair growth on the body are at the groin, or root chakra, and on the head, crown chakra. The eyebrows are also of a thick, concentrated hair growth pattern, which would facilitate the third eye chakra and intuition.

This personally resonates with me and has allowed me to really honor my hair in a way I never did before. I always thought of hair as dead, not really considering dying, blow drying on high heat, and frying with curling irons to be something to give a second though to. Now I regard my hair with care and don’t artificially process it.

Henna is a natural plant that can be used if one wants to naturally color or give shine to the hair. Henna has been used safely for centuries to enhance beauty and was a favorite in ancient Egypt. Cleopatra was known to color her hair and adorn herself with henna. I sometimes still blow dry my hair, but I never use high heat, only cool or warm air, and I always keep the blow dryer several inches from the hair shaft. My hair is naturally wavy, but if I want a bit more uniform curl, steam curlers are not damaging to the hair and are a great option for a more styled look.

Crystals and beauty, like the lunar cycles, are as ancient as myths and legends passed on through the ages. Crystals have been used throughout the ages to adorn oneself with beauty. Cultivated by the energies of mother earth, crystals can be thought of as precious jewels that are concentrated energetic stones, gifts from mother earth to remind us of our own unique variety and beauty.

Symbolically, crystals are very much like people, each with unique gifts to share with the world, each possessing a unique beauty that cannot be replicated by another. They remind us our connection to the earth, and our own inherent value, with gifts and treasures to share. The infinite diversity of crystals lends beautiful variety to their uses.

Crystals often take on the surrounding vibrations of the environment in which they were cultivated, naturally synchronizing with the patters of the earth and this can help one in choosing the right stone to wear. Crystals can be embedded with energy and thought patters of their wearer and can even purposely be embedded to enhance beauty. This can be used to help enhance one’s beauty if one is embedding kind and loving thoughts about themselves.

Just as crystals naturally synchronize with earth patterns, they do so with their wearer. There are many stones that help to balance and uplift one’s thoughts and emotions and this can be helpful if one is experiencing low self esteem.

Amethyst and citrine are wonderful crystals for dissipating negative energy and balancing the emotional and physical body. Amethyst’s properties lie in the realm of spirituality, contentment and healing. Citrine helps to activate and increase personal power. This in turn can affect one’s self confidence.

Moss Agate is another stone that can be used for beauty. Of many of its properties, it helps to strengthen positive personal traits, brings emotional balance and allows you to see the beauty in all things, including yourself :).

Turquoise is a holy stone to American Indians, which symbolizes beauty. They believe it is a magical stone that aids in protection and is said to make women content and men powerful and successful. Some properties of turquoise linked to beauty are giving confidence and lifting depression.

What are some of your favorite raw treats?

I try to be pretty simple with my eating because that’s the way my body likes it! But, I have to admit, I love to eat! I grew up in an Italian family and eating for pleasure was ingrained in me since I was very young. I know most people can relate. It’s easy for me to be tempted and I allow myself to eat for pleasure, not just health. I just need to keep it balanced because I have a history of VERY severe food sensitivities.

I love “Orange Julius”’ that I make with orange juice, banana and raw vanilla powder. They taste just like those drinks I used to get at the mall as a kid! I also love raw olives, figs and almond butter fudge made with carob powder. ¬†

If I really want a special treat, or it’s a special occasion, Seed is my favorite raw restaurant here in the North San Francisco Bay Area. The owner, Jerri Hastey, is so kind and if given a day‚Äôs notice, will make foods for anyone with special needs, like sensitivities. I am sensitive to tomatoes and peppers and they are very common in raw recipes at restaurants, so it’s wonderful to be able to have someone make my favorite foods without these items. Her broccoli quiche is amazing!

2012 and the Mayan Calendar: What’s Happening?

Lately, a lot of folks have been asking me what I believe will happen in the next few years. The short answer is that no one can tell you the exact scenario because it hasn’t played itself out yet. Too many choice points still exist to make a solid prediction.

The longer answer is that I have the advantage of having¬†deep conversations with people from all over the world — on a regular basis. Such encounters give me a sense of what trends are coming and how the people creating those trends feel about them. What motivates these folks? How do the inspirations arrive? How do they fit together?

Some people feel quite scared about the prospects of 2012. They worry that the¬†world’s about to end or that the Apocalypse looms large. I agree that change is coming. In fact, change has intensified over the last few years. But from where I sit, that change looks really good. So many of you are bringing amazing visions to fruition. So many of you have worked through or are in process of working through lifetimes of limitations in preparation to unleash yourselves to a previously unknown degree. I feel awe and excitement when I consider the sorts of things coming into our world!

A huge amount of love continues to sprout and grow on this planet. I feel it everyday during coaching sessions when people tell me how much they want to help people, animals or the world. I feel love from colleagues who have stepped into greater visibility so that they can share their messages of love and rejuvenation in larger and more influential ways. And I feel love in my own life as I see how years of synchronicity and service have begun to form a tapestry that “materializes” my deepest longings and dreams.

Good times are upon us! Times of change, yes, but these changes come from a place of love, faith and hope.

The number of people asking about 2012 has strengthened my resolve to get my novel¬†Schizandra and the Gates of Mu out there sooner rather than later. This fictional series explores where we’re headed as a species, planet and galaxy, but it also offers many routes to get there. While I finish the final editing and submission process, I thought I’d share just a few of the resources I’ve found particularly interesting or relevant¬†during the course of my research:

2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck.

I like to dive into this book “randomly” rather than reading it straight through. Daniel gives lots of history, personal experiences and science interwoven with ancient prophecy. I had already written or planned most of Schizandra and the Gates of Mu¬†before reading 2012, but the book really resonated with¬†some ideas coming through my novel.

Warning: it’s a dense book — definitely not a fluffy read. The prose will stun you, though. Daniel Pinchbeck grew up in NYC’s literary elite, and you can tell. His lyrical passages will¬†coax your soul into a new awareness even if your mind wants to dig its heels into the old world’s ways.

Secrets of the Talking Jaguar by Martin Prechtel. I’m using this book more for background on book two, Schizandra and the Peruvian Jaguar, but I love Martin Prechtel’s writing! His true story reads like fiction, and you’ll find yourself breathing in the magic of the Andes and her people. This book provides insight into the descendents of those who created many of the 2012 prophecies.

Healing Crystals and Gemstones by Dr. Flora Pescheck-Bohmer and Gisela Schreiber. This book is not about 2012 either, but it does share some great background about crystals and gemstones, which help to raise vibrations into alignment with the coming shifts.

The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. This classic continues to stand the test of time. Many of his verses speak even more strongly today than they did last century.

Abundance through Reiki by Paula Horan. I often recommend this book to Reiki students, because Paula Horan gives a 42-day method for bringing more Reiki into your life. Since Reiki is, by definition, universal life force energy, embracing more Reiki leads to greater flow and a sense of connection with everyone and everything in our world. When you feel connected, abundance comes naturally. Allowing yourself to flow in your natural state will help you to ride out whatever blessings or challenges come your way.

The Lazy Raw Foodist’s Guide by … me. ūüôā I wrote this little e-book because I found myself saying so many of the same things to so many clients. People kept having the same issues on a raw food journey, but I could not find one or two other raw food books that shared all that information. I wanted to offer an easy guide around the stumbling blocks.

I do not believe that everyone needs to turn to 100% raw foods in order to help humanity make its next shift; however, raw foods do offer one effective way of raising vibration to a higher level. This book also addresses the increased synchronicities andspirituality experienced by so many people on their raw journeys¬† — and why that matters. (Hint: the extra energy can work for or against you; The Lazy Raw Foodist’s Guide gives steps to harness your most positive energy.)

Lemuria and Atlantis by Shirley Andrews. This book provides shared experiences through past life memories, regressions and/or channeling regarding the lost continents of Lemuria and Atlantis. Whether you believe in either or both of these mystical lands, their energy pervades much of the changes of the last few years. Reading about these cultures — even if you think of them as fictional — will help to clarify your thoughts and feelings about today’s world. Atlantis in particular comes up often during Intuitive Life Path Assessments. The collective subconscious has a lot to say!

The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell. Originally written as a marketing study, this book gives insight into how changes take place. How does an idea become a trend? How does a trend become a phenomenon? How do phenomena change our very reality? I highly recommend this book, especially for anyone who wonders how a single person or a small group can make an enormous contribution.

Well, that should keep everyone busy for awhile! I hope you enjoy the resources. ūüôā¬†Once I know the price and estimated release date, I will¬†start taking pre-orders for Schizandra and the Gtes of Mu. A Three-Day Gratitude Extravaganza: Why this was the Best Thanksgiving Ever!

Happy Thanksgiving!

While I truly feel gratitude every day, this week has offered blessing after unbelievable blessing.¬† I did not know I could top last year’s Thanksgiving that featured two days of¬†catered meals from Cafe Raw Bliss in Sedona, but wow, this has been an amazing few days for me.

It began on Tuesday, when the first of a long-promised, yet “impossible” series of blessings manifested into third dimensional reality.¬† I can’t share the details yet, because this¬†first blessing¬†links to a whole bunch of other ones, all of which must remain secret for the moment.¬† I promise, once¬†all these intuitive hits come true, I will share the story.¬† For now, just know that¬†receiving this particular blessing on Tuesday felt VERY good.¬† I can’t even describe how good it feels without giving away the rest, but it set the tone–a few months earlier than expected, too!

My husband and I decided to celebrate¬†Thanksgiving that night instead of waiting until Thursday.¬† We made a last minute request for a Whole Foods Thankgsiving meal for him, and I invented an awesome¬†new smoothie:¬† Acai-Mint-Blueberry-Cacao with a few other surprising ingredients.¬† (I’m supposed to be developing 100 original recipes for another lazy raw foodist book, so I love it when something new appears in my¬†Vita-Mix.)¬†

Why¬†didn’t I eat¬†a big raw meal¬†during our¬†Tuesday celebration?¬†¬†Because visionary artist Tania Marie¬†planned to visit me on Wednesday.¬† She lives¬†at Lake Tahoe but needed¬†help loading a 150-pound crystal into her hybrid¬†from a store in Sausalito.¬† She planned to pick me up, pick up the crystal and then head over to San Rafael for a¬†pre-T-day meal at Cafe Gratitude.¬†

When Stephen and I celebrated on Tuesday, Tania and I changed plans.  She opted to stay in Sonoma County so we could have a legendary (and free) Thanksgiving feast at the new Cafe Gratitude in Healdsburg.  Yes, I love living in Northern California!

Tania arrived on Tuesday morning. I had just finished crafting a scene in my novel involving two Lemurian Seed Crystals, and in retrospect, that seems like an appropriate beginning to our journey.¬† We headed down the 101 to the Dynamic Crystal Gallery in Sausalito/Marin City.¬† Wow, that place has great crystals!¬† Having lived in Sedona twice, I’ve seen a lot of crystals, but Seann (the owner) really selects some special ones from Brazil.¬† I have never seen such beautiful pieces!¬† I quickly selected two more treats for myself (besides a print of Air) as¬†intended¬†rewards¬†for selling my novel.¬† Yes, I still need to complete it, but some of that falls into the above-mentioned intuitions.¬† It feels right to¬†dream big.¬† ūüôā

We chatted with Seann for a long time, and he answered¬†a few¬†questions I had regarding details in my novel.¬† Then we went to the storage area to pick up Tania’s giant Lemurian.¬† It was heavy, but with some Jedi mind tricks, the three of us managed to load it.¬†ūüėČ

Seann then invited us to tour the warehouse, and Tania noticed a five-inch Lemurian for me just as Seann did.¬† He picked it up and announced, “This one wants to go home with you.¬† Here’s a gift for helping load.”¬† Wow!¬† Knowing what I know of crystals, this represented quite a gift.¬†¬†I have one Lemurian, but the novel scene includes two.¬† Just that morning I had secretly longed for a second one.¬†

After Seann handed it to me, Tania said, “When I saw that crystal, I thought, ‘That one’s going home with Laura.'”¬†¬†Seann gave Tania a similarly sized Lemurian, so we now have twins.¬† We visited a while longer, then made our way to Cafe Gratitude in San Rafael.

Anyone who knows me knows I especially love Cafe Gratitude, but rarely do I go there with someone who can pack away as much food as I can.  Apparently, Tania and I have twin bellies as well as twin Lemurians.  We ate so much that our waiter started looking for said bellies.  When we ordered three desserts, he corrected us, assuming we meant I AM JOY (like almond joy candy bars) for one of us and I AM PERFECT (pecan pie) for the other.  Um, no!!!  We were both JOY and we wanted to split perfection.

We¬†giggled about the¬†waiter’s difficulty believing¬†that two¬†100-pound pixies¬†could eat so much.¬† Tania mischievously decided to¬†order¬†more snacks¬†for later.¬† By the time we finished all our desserts and¬†picked up the¬†to-go food, our waiter’s jaw had dropped.¬† We felt really full and really blessed.¬†

But the universe hadn’t finished with us yet.¬†¬†As a¬†San Francisco Raw Food Potluck member, I received a 10% discount on the entire check.¬†¬†At the¬†cash register, I happened to notice some Vitamineral Green¬†for less than half the cost I expected to pay.¬† Nice!¬† Having just used the last of my acai in my Thanksgiving smoothie invention, I bought the VG and¬†some Gratitude Acai powder:¬† no need for online orders after all.

Too much traffic headed towards the 101 encouraged us to stop at Open Secret¬†Bookstore in San Rafael.¬† We just browsed, but it sure beat a stand-still¬†Bay Area holiday rush hour.¬† When we got back to Sonoma County, I played with Tania’s turtle, Gaia for awhile, wrote another novel scene and hit the sack.¬†

I had a funny feeling Cafe Gratitude might run out of food the next day, so we decided to arrive early. REALLY early.  We got there before the doors opened and soon claimed our seats at the giant wooden farm tables. We did not know what to expect but found ourselves delighted on all levels!

Everything they served us was raw, organic and vegan.  We began with warm apple cider, quickly followed by warm chai-apple cider:  both exquisite.  Then our servers brought a basket of assorted crackers.  They tasted so good, we might have felt satisfied with just those and our cozy drinks.

By this time, more people started to arrive, so the staff asked us all to consolidate at the larger tables.  A sweet couple (Jeff and Rita) from Santa Rosa ended up sitting beside us.  Although we just met this morning, we talked with them the entire time like old friends.

When our food arrived, it looked like a traditional Thanksgiving meal:¬† cauilflower mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy, a slice of “turkey loaf,” stuffing, cranberry sauce, and a green salad, along with a refill of crackers.¬† The¬†warm potatoes made me smile, and the rest of the food tasted amazing.

For dessert, they offered mocha or vanilla ice cream.¬† We somehow wound up with both flavors for each of us!¬† Mmmmm, we love¬†raw ice cream. Synchronously receiving not just one but two scoops each–wow!¬†

As I took my last bite of vanilla ice cream, I noticed some friends pull up outside.  About eight people from the Petaluma Raw Food potluck had decided to meet there at 12:30.  (Due to my intuition about them running out of food, we had planned to meet them there after we had eaten.)  Tania and I ordered a Yerba mate and visited with them for another hour.

The feast food¬†did disappear around 12:30, but Cafe Gratitude accommodated¬†my potluck friends¬†with items from their regular menu.¬†¬†Tania and I¬†thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.¬† The food, the company, the chance to express our gratitude for this abundant life, the one-minute of sustained group laughter:¬† a Thanksgiving¬†we won’t ever forget.¬† I would have gladly paid $50-100 for such an experience, but Cafe Gratitude offers this feast each year as a gift to the community.¬† They don’t even turn on their cash registers.

Afterwards, I celebrated again with my wonderful hubby, who¬†considered his Whole Foods holiday pack among the best feasts he’s ever enjoyed, too. ¬†We finished¬†our evening¬†early enough for us to spend more time on our creative pursuits:¬† my novel and his photography.¬†¬†“My cup overflowethed” so much, though,¬†that¬†I needed to write this post before I could return to fiction.

Many, many blessings to each of you!  I wish you all the abundance of the moment and thousands of little surprises along your journey.

I AM GRATEFUL.  Wow, what a wonderful life!
