Door Number 5: King of Cups aka Chiron

Every once in awhile, a portal door “reactivates” itself. They hold space, energy and intentions all the time, but periodically, they announce themselves as “up,” or maybe I should say, “open.”

This one’s been asserting itself very strongly for a year and a half now, as I’ve learned so much more about the astrology of Chiron. When I painted this door back in April 2010, I “downloaded” the entire thing from dreams and synchronicities. I had no idea what I was painting — or rather, I sensed the essence of each portal, without understanding its vastness or the ways its energies would unfold in “real” life. That’s the case with all my doors, but in particular, this one came through fully formed, even including its own key when I found the door after “knowing” I’d include the Hafiz poem “Dropping Keys” on the back.

This door now stands in our living room, next to Door “Number 6: Freya and Frigga,” which features the word “Return” written in Runes where “Chiron” is written in Greek on the King of Cups door. Together, the doors read “Chiron Return,” and as synchronicity would have it, the Composite Chart for David and me has been undergoing its Chiron Return during the time the door’s been so active!

This morning, whispers of the poem kept dancing through my mind, so I’ll post it here, along with reblogging the original portal post:

Dropping Keys

The small man
Builds cages
For everyone
He
Knows
While the sage,
Who has to duck his head
When the moon is low,
Keeps dropping keys all night long
For the
Beautiful
Rowdy
Prisoners.

–Hafiz

I don’t know why it surprises me, but these portal doors continue to reactivate themselves, sometimes falling, or me falling into them, or else coming up in themes, quotes or images. The journey continues to unfold in magical and eerily delightful ways.

Door Number 5 features an interpretation of the King of Cups card from the Tarot, along with Chiron, the very first centaur and teacher of healing to most of the Ancient Greeks. The Greek writing in the center of the door spells out “Chiron.” Among the man-horse creatures known as centaurs, Chiron held highest honors as a compassionate healer and guide. Paired with the emotionally balanced, “all heart” King of Cups, he represents the balanced masculine side of healing and transmutation.

The poem on top is by Hafiz:

For everyone
He

While the sage,
Who has to duck his head
When the moon is low,
Keeps dropping keys all night long
For the

I had already chosen to use this poem on this door, so it was quite a fun synchronicity that this door actually contained a…

  1. Ohhh, just noticed the prior Hafiz post:

    Tripping over Joy

    What is the difference
    Between your experience of Existence
    And that of a saint?

    The saint knows
    That the spiritual path
Is a sublime chess game with God

    And that the Beloved
Has just made such a Fantastic Move

that the saint is now continually
    Tripping over Joy
    And bursting out in Laughter
    And saying, “I Surrender!”

    Whereas, my dear,
    I’m afraid you still think

You have a thousand serious moves.

Wow. Synchronicity for me. In the dream state a few nights ago, the words “Centaur”, Minotaur and there was a third “-taur” that wasn’t fully named, came through to me. No images, just the three “Taurs”. All I knew/felt was that this was significant. The rest of the dream was filled with Native American symbolism (two leopard Appaloosas and a white wolf-dog — with messages of getting grounded and being in a time of transformation. The Taurs came through just before I woke up. I haven’t yet looked up the significance of the Taurs yet. This article and “reactivation” is a prompt to start. Blessings!

  5. Awesome, Nikkoale! “Messages of getting grounded” could also be Taurus. This has been a time of so many vivid dreams for me, too, especially about astrology, LOL. All night long, my Dream Guys show me charts, dates and “activations.” At least they’ve been bringing me to some amazing water places to make up for all night school. 🙂 Never a dull moment! ❤

  9. (Well. That was odd. I won’t hit “return” again, not here anyway.) Chiron has a period of 50 years, so you can’t be having your Chiron return at your age(s). So you must mean something else….a progressed return maybe? That’s possible, although of dubious value.

  10. I just realized what you may mean, that the composite chart’s Chiron location is now being transited by Chiron. That would have some value to be aware of, although it’s not a Chiron return, strictly.

  11. Not strictly speaking in the sense that no, we have not been together 50 years, but my husband is 55, and I am 46. Therefore, Chiron has been conjuncting the Composite’s Chiron as a midpoint between when our own Chiron Returns would be. He went through his five years ago. Mine’s coming in a few more years. 😊

  12. That poem by Hafiz is utterly amazing… have not seen that one before. Thanks for sharing it; I don’t know Tarot (yet? :)), but your blog looks lovely and interesting… mixing art, introspection, astrology… 🙏💕(I came across this post in WP reader by searching “Hafiz.”) My astrologer friend told me something about my “wound of Chiron,” which I have yet to explore in depth… btw, it appears from your last comment reply that you and I are about the same age. 😊
