Door Number 10: Hopi/Jewel in the Lotus

So grateful that not one, but two friends yesterday asked if I hadn’t already painted a Sun tarot card portal. I had forgotten the details of this one, commissioned and painted in 2010. I customized the imagery to the patron’s intentions and daydreams, which have all since come true, including a move to Pagosa Springs. I painted two portals in actual doorways of her home, both with strong nods to Pagosa Springs.

Preparing for that move became bittersweet, as both doors’ intentions had manifested, but she learned replacing the doors so she could bring these with her would cost thousands of dollars. I told her not to worry, that the portals had obviously already done their job.

My current Sun project has more traditional imagery, but with extra joyful exuberance. In so many ways it feels right to paint a Sun portal of my own. In the meantime, I enjoyed a trip down memory lane looking at the original photos of this fun and powerful portal.

This 19th door was more traditional and personal to me, whereas the first Sun was a commissioned […]
