A little Tuesday cheer from misty Dra’Faven:
In the background, you can just see the little orange flags from a neighborhood wide AT&T fiber optic installation. Fingers, toes and wings crossed that THIS is our big Uranus (internet/technology) in Taurus (Earth) change instead of the tree harming, much opposed and unnecessary sidewalks. On that front, it appears revolution (Uranus) is brewing across other neighborhoods, too, who have discovered their values (Taurus) pushed to the brink by a would be tyrannical Board.
Interesting times … but amidst all the sudden shifts (Uranus) on personal, local and larger collective levels, it’s important to breathe in beauty (Taurus) and get grounded (Taurus).
Cultivate and enjoy the beauty wherever you find it!

Here in Minneapolis we’re dealing with our own tyrannical Board. Something called Minneapolis2040, probably an offshoot of Agenda 21 or 30 or whatever pretty label they’re selling, is getting pushback from residents. They want to tear down single family homes and put up fourplexes and other structures in various neighborhoods. These will only profit developers, and be out of reach for ordinary people. To add insult, the public face of this initiative doesn’t even live in the city. They’re surprised by the resistance and having to revise the plan. So it’s going on everywhere. 🙂

Oh, wow, Kieron, I just looked up Minneapolis 2040, and yes, much of that sounds like what we’re battling, only more overt. At least they’re admitting what they’re trying to do to single family homes. Here we can only surmise based on other “unrelated” clues from different parts of government. When you add up the clues, it doesn’t look good, even though our homes have plaster walls and in some ways are more sustainable than the newer developments. We have the same buzz words for affordable housing, and yet, no clear plans for how that will work. The new apartments and condos have only 10% of the units required to be affordable by people making between 80-110% of the median wage … which begs the question of who’s going to pay for the other 90%? Or will they get turned into another low income, subsidized housing “oops” insertion in areas with no recreation for at risk youth, no integration with surrounding houses or culture? The attitude is “what’s done is done; we can’t undo it, and we’re not responsible for it,” even when they ARE responsible, as in they caused it. Then they wonder why people fight them to avoid implementing other potentially stupid or detrimental ideas … “just trust us.” Ummmmmm …
Glad people are rising up in other places, too. These Agenda’s require so much koolaid to swallow. I wish people pushing the Agenda’s in the Midwest would be required to spend a month in Seattle, Portland and San Francisco … as well as parts of Sonoma and Marin Counties, so they could see the future results. Back in 2008 in Sonoma County, we were having the EXACT same issues with “high end condos” “surprisingly” not selling … and the brilliant mixed use buildings still vacant years after wiping out natural habitat for “demand.” I keep wishing one of our most “progressive,” apparently tree hating Board members would put these “essential” sidewalks in their own neighborhoods, but alas … only OTHER neighborhoods where they don’t live require such modifications. Anyway … you get it. Glad others are catching on, too. 🙂

I’m always amazed when people cut down big trees because they take so long to grow in our climate. I think a lot of nature haters in whatever form are a different kind of “human” if you can call them that. I don’t believe that everyone around us in a human form is the same type of human, some are crosses (Satanic spawns perhaps) and they lack the empathy, compassion, connection to mother earth. These cretins are bent on demolishing the beauty of ourselves and planet. Fortunately there are many others who are standing up and saying um no like go back to hell. Go Laura! If the board in your community succeeds I hope everyone guerilla plants the same amount of trees that these cretins cut down and then the net result is zero except for the wake-up of a lot of neighbours who realize that these petty bureaucrats are not invested in the best for a community.

Agreed, C! It’s bizarre. I even had a lengthy conversation with an otherwise nice person in our neighborhood, who told me, “Personally, I don’t want sidewalks, but I don’t care about the trees. I don’t have trees, and if trees get cut down, my attitude is just plant another tree. They’re easily replaced.” He had no concept of the difference between a one or two year old sapling and a being who’s lived here for 50-100 years — not to mention the difference in oxygen and shade generated. He’s human, but not connected to the Earth. It’s a symptom of our larger culture, almost like a trance. Fortunately, there ARE people planting trees and more trees, recognizing value not just for wood or shade, but for the spiritual connection and wisdom they share. Many in our neighborhood value those things, so I am grateful to live in a space where many people get it. 🙂

A lot of peole do indeed live their lives in trance. Truly. And it’s no accident that this is so. Rather the very carefully planned and executed control of the masses. By the powers that be. Who have trees.
Perish the thought that we be connected eith nature! Our beautiful world points to a creator and the vital life force which resides in it. Perish the thought that people have trees to draw their eyes and spirits upward and into connection and communion with the energy that created and sustains trees – and us. Yes, perish the thought.
What to do? As Draja Mickaharic, a pseudonym for an 80+ year old magician, says in more than one of his books, “Prayer is the most powerful type of magic.” Especially twice daily prayer.
Prayer joins us with the Creator and sets intention in motion. Manifestation begins with prayer and is nourished by it. Prayer, true heart felt prayer, is one of the most powerful tools we have. It often is the tool of last resort, when it actually should be the first thing we do.
Those who have a twice daily “Prayer Rule” are more likely to use prayer as a first response and step than those who don’t. I am working on establishing a twice daily prayer rule. It’s a work in progress.
May God bless trees everywhere. Who give themselves for us in so many ways: the provision of shelter and furniture, the warmth and illumination of fire, the communication and documentation of paper and books, the provision of warm food, the comfort and support of our bodies as we rest and sleep, and even the cradling and sheltering of our remains as we repose in death. God bless trees. And God bless us.

So true, Sky! I’ve said the same to people working on this project when they say, “I guess I just need to pray about it and hope for the best.” I say, “Yes, prayer is ALWAYS a good idea!” I pray all day long. It’s a way of life, whether before each session, in gratitude walking through my garden or by the trees, upon waking or going to sleep. It’s a habit, but one of my better ones. 😉

Oooohhh I always forget about prayer, what a good reminder. I think being in the garden is one big long prayer really and just wish I could be there all the time and just lay in the warm earth and listen to the birds and bees and then eat some berries. Trees are so fascinating when you look and look at them they are never just a “tree”. A trance is a good way to describe so many people (myself included often) as we focus on the important task of being good slaves. Thank you Sky and Laura for helping remind me of what is really important.
