Dixon’s Violin ~ I Wish I Could

Dixon’s Violin was the last of many amazing concerts we listened to last night at New Year’s Fest of Kalamazoo. Everything he does is complete improvisation, and the melodies he wove transported me to another realm. What an inspiring way to ring in 2018! Enjoy:

“I often hear people say with sadness “I wish I could…” followed by something they actually could do. I believe you can do anything you set your mind and heart to! If you find yourself saying those words, I encourage you to pause and consider: assume that you CAN do that thing, now what choices would you need to shift in your life? What actions can you take to make it happen? You are more powerful than you think! With love and in service, – Dixon”

What a gift you’ve given us to kick off 2018, Since a teen, I have always improvised the instruments I play, even fronting an improv band in San Francisco. I have always been torn, not feeling I’m ‘doing it right’ buy not learning proper chord structure, theory, reading music and in fact this was one of my goals for 2018, to finally…but now I see there’s is another way, the way I have been playing for over 50 years, sometimes for hours not having any map where the music is going, the mind is fused to the heart of creative flow. I’m so grateful you posted this friend, I can only imagine the realms you and David were transported to, Mr Dixon is completely tapped into ‘the flow’.

    • Oh, how lovely, Mitch! I had no idea you made music. So many creative talents! Dixon has such an inspiring story, too. He worked in the tech industry and was trained as a classical musician, always feeling the things he most wanted to do were “wrong.” Seven years ago, he chucked his promising careers and began touring with his own kind of music. It was like being transported to Rivendell, the Boreal Forest and places of such beauty I don’t even have names for them. We bought all three of his CD’s, as I’ve been intending to find some new writing music. 🙂 Happy Flowing!
